lol I was going to ask about the dock and getting hdmi to your projector. do you have a small headphone amp? can you add it between the switch and your bluetooth transmitter?

it's a spicy dinner we're having (Sufjan Grafton), Sunday, 23 August 2020 18:27 (five years ago)

You mean like a DAC? No, nothing portable/practical. And for the AV jack (it just says "AV" on it), you mean a male-to-male 3.5-to-3.5 TRRS to TRS cable? They don't seem as prevalent/easy to find as male-to-female.

Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 23 August 2020 18:40 (five years ago)

not a DAC. the output of the headphone jack is already analog. it seems like there's signal loss between your headphone jack and the bluetooth transmitter and amplifying the headphone output before the transmitter would help. TRRS is pretty uncommon, in general. just wanted to make sure you knew a TRS wouldn't work with it.

For the sake of your neighbours if you're playing mariokart outside you probably should be sticking to volume levels that are low enough that they can't drown out passing traffic, no?

JimD, Monday, 24 August 2020 13:49 (five years ago)

Not drown out, simply hear above from just a couple of feet away from the speaker. Trust me, the cars, trains, and bugs are clearly winning. There is no competition here, let alone winning, just adapting the best we can.

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 24 August 2020 14:10 (five years ago)

so i guess i should buy Fire Emblem and bury my hopes and dreams in it?

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Monday, 24 August 2020 14:22 (five years ago)

My Switch + BOTW arrived this weekend, haven't gotten around to playing it yet, though.

Ruth Bae Ginsburg (Leee), Monday, 24 August 2020 18:13 (five years ago)

if your experience is anything like mine, say goodbye to your evenings. BoTW was all-consuming for a month or so there

stet, Monday, 24 August 2020 18:18 (five years ago)

dude it's so good. best game ever

trapped out the barndo (crüt), Monday, 24 August 2020 18:22 (five years ago)

I watched a guy beat the final boss using only tree branches on YouTube the other day and it was thrilling!

Just imagine what could be behind that hidden text link!

DJI, Monday, 24 August 2020 18:26 (five years ago)

is this where I confess that I still haven’t put more than like 30 minutes into it since we got the switch, because I’ve been saving it

I’m worse than Josh

saving it for anything in particular? there's a sequel on the way so you're not gonna run out of zelda

ciderpress, Monday, 24 August 2020 18:43 (five years ago)

save it for retirement! by then you can line up like 10-20 top tier zeldas, prime material for end-of-life binging

The GOAT Harold Land (Karl Malone), Monday, 24 August 2020 18:48 (five years ago)

Re: Diablo 3 maybe so but I prefer games like ADOM, I like immediate challenge, you die, you start again, and only occasionally does a character achieve liftoff. The boring "walking tank" section only occurs toward the endgame :)

my god, it's full of bugles (flamboyant goon tie included), Monday, 24 August 2020 18:54 (five years ago)

I've already said goodbye to my evenings with Two Point Hospital! I don't need another such game!

Ruth Bae Ginsburg (Leee), Monday, 24 August 2020 18:56 (five years ago)

saving it for anything in particular? there's a sequel on the way so you're not gonna run out of zelda

Yeah, totally on its way, sometime between now and never. It and Metroid 4. Regardless, with BotW you'll never run out of Zelda, full stop, because afaict you can practically just keep playing that game forever.

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 24 August 2020 19:17 (five years ago)

Just saw they announced a new Switch upgrade for 2021, as well as a super-slate of big games, like ... well, like, um ... I'm sure they'll be big. Maybe something with cardboard.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 25 August 2020 19:26 (five years ago)

4K Nintendo games is a good idea.

DJI, Tuesday, 25 August 2020 19:34 (five years ago)

But having to pay for MarioKart Deluxe again will make me super-annoyed when I do it.

DJI, Tuesday, 25 August 2020 19:35 (five years ago)

nintendo has not announced anything yet

ciderpress, Tuesday, 25 August 2020 19:36 (five years ago)

i understand skepticism about BotW 2 release, but i'm optimistic because:

1) nintendo will want some marquee titles to hype when the ps5 and series x are released and gaining traction
2) if they're taking longer to release it, it's probably because they're making sure it's up to previous zelda quality. that's a good thing!

The GOAT Harold Land (Karl Malone), Tuesday, 25 August 2020 19:43 (five years ago)

xposts to yesterday, i think

The GOAT Harold Land (Karl Malone), Tuesday, 25 August 2020 19:43 (five years ago)

jazzed up mario 64 seems a fait accompli

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Tuesday, 25 August 2020 19:44 (five years ago)

They're so inscrutable, tbh. It's just so weird that other systems hype things for months, and ... it seems to work out? And Nintendo doesn't, and ... it seems to work out? Except they really have much less to hype, honestly.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 25 August 2020 20:01 (five years ago)

pre covid there were rumors about botw2 being this year's big holiday release but it seems whatever it was has probably been pushed back if there was no announcement by now. mario rereleases seem more likely

ciderpress, Tuesday, 25 August 2020 20:05 (five years ago)

It would be kind of nice if Nintendo had a bit more to offer than more re-releases.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 25 August 2020 20:16 (five years ago)

Hoping for a Mario 3D World reissue tbh. Super Mario Bros U has that shit “you can only save at very rare moments” thing and is too hard for kid to boot.

stet, Tuesday, 25 August 2020 20:20 (five years ago)

maybe nintendo are announcing a bunch of new games, but you can't successfully hookup a speaker to hear it?

it's a spicy dinner we're having (Sufjan Grafton), Tuesday, 25 August 2020 20:53 (five years ago)

If Nintendo releases a new game and I can't hook up a speaker to hear it, does it make a sound?

Answer: yes, just very quietly.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 25 August 2020 21:09 (five years ago)

the speaker represents the voice inside you that wants you to accept nintendo for what it is and love it. it's a beautiful voice. a voice that wants you to be happy.

it's a spicy dinner we're having (Sufjan Grafton), Tuesday, 25 August 2020 21:36 (five years ago)

you need to call the geek squad and have them setup your speaker so that it is loudest.

it's a spicy dinner we're having (Sufjan Grafton), Tuesday, 25 August 2020 21:37 (five years ago)

the geek squad is drugs btw

presumably you can use that with a VR headset too; seems like a game changer.
They were charging nearly $100 for a box of boxes not too long ago; price seems reasonable to me!

wonder if it developed from a series of "mario kart maker" meetings
