so i visited Jaq today and she had Redd (he is NOT showing up for me!?) so i tested whether a visitor can also get a real painting if the islander already bought one.

They can’t :(

that's odd. why wouldn't you be able to buy a real painting if he has more than one in stock? does he just say you're not able to buy those items?

Only one of his offerings is real - the rest are always fake. I guess I just wondered if itd reset if I was a visitor. Jaq had already bought the real painting :)

Oh wow I wasn't sure I even got a real one - almost bought the portrait of the guy made of produce! Redd didn't even get off his boat yesterday, I spotted his boat when I was running around shaking trees.

Players will see Leif, Kicks, and Saharah every week. There are two days a week where none of them appear; those days will be randomly filled with Flick, CJ, Gulliver, Label, or Redd.

if i understand that correctly, it means that each week i should have a 40% chance of seeing Redd (2 free weekdays where Redd has a 20% chance of appearing). i think it's been 3 weeks since i've seen him? probability of that happening is very satanic (0.6 * 0.6 * 0.6 = .216, or 21.6%)

(for those keeping score at home, that should mean the probability of seeing Redd three weeks in a row is 6.4% (40% chance three weeks in a row = 0.4 * 0.4 * 0.4 = .064).

do none of them show up on saturdays or sundays?

You have to look at the painting! It has clues when its fake :) not always easy to spot though, I cheat and look it up online haha

In New Leaf you could tell Isabelle whether you were an early, regular or late riser and then the schedule of everyone in the town would adjust to accommodate your preferences. Booted that game up again this week and I was surprised how many little quality of life things like that I’d forgotten about, which have been inexplicably dropped for New Horizons.

one thing i do a lot of in this game is craft or buy wallpapers that seem cool in the abstract but become nightmarishly garish as soon as they're in a room with furniture or anything in it

so then i go back to the same three wallpapers i've used basically since i started the game

Truffles yeah they come as part of the fall mushroom set so yeah you need a few to make a couple of the DIY seasonal pieces.

I'm very excited for fall now! I hope you can only dig them up under hardwood trees when one of your dog or pig neighbors is near :D

I keep catching those gigantic oarfish! I gasp every time I land one - so huge! Really glad they don't wriggle.

i say this in a positive way: i can't believe i'm still playing this every day!

i haven't played a game this consistently, for weeks at a time, in a very long time. it really helps that the game is designed so that you can do your "chores" in about 20 minutes or less, but also can spend much longer if you feel like it

yes, that's how i've enjoyed it too. it's pleasant checking in and completing a few satisfying tasks everyday as incremental progress towards a long-term goal. tbh it helps me keep some basic irl stuff in perspective b/c i'm historically bad at sticking to healthy routines. a little exercise here, a little creative pursuit there, i'm not a failure if i don't accomplish what i want all at once, etc.

yeah, same! the other day, i had a ton of bells, enough to finally do a shit ton of infrastructure week on the Boneyarden (my e-home and spiritual rejuvenation center). and it was nice, in a way, when fucking tom nook let me know that i could only build one new infrastructure item per day! that little construction dude in the hat isn't going to do two in a day! calm down! sometimes i need to be forced to do that

My critter neighbors threw me a birthday party this morning and it was honestly fun and touching. I love giving them stuff and seeing them use/wear it :)

Not doing turnips the past few weeks has let me enjoy playing more - less anxiety/stress about checking am/pm for prices etc. I've got one or two more inclines to build. Thinking about relocating my house to the alpine highland.
