TLOU Remastered has audio logs play through the controller speaker and HZD has some minor sound effects go through it too.

it's actually a really cool feature, that adds an extra weird little dimension. wish more games would use it

I also bought gta5 this week, guess the extra one euro off in this sale did the trick. I really don't want to do the torture mission, just want a playground for doing dumb stuff that's not scifi or wild west

i am very happy with GTAV. Needed another faster game like spiderman to fill that gap.

Is there a decent arcade-style joystick available for PS4 for playing Pac Man and that sort of thing? All the ones I'm seeing are advertised as fight sticks, which apparently are no good for games where you only want 4-way or 8-way movement, not a full 360 degrees.

but aren't all arcade games from that era (excepting trackball ones) digital inputs only anyway? (that is, 4 or 8-way vs. analog)

Yeah, after poking around more it seems like the issue is that you need a stick that is restricted to 4-way movement, because a game like Pac Man will ignore any input that isn't exactly up-down-left-right so you miss turns if you don't hit it just right. I'll check into the Hori sticks, thanks, looks like they have an inexpensive 8-way that can possibly be modified with an aftermarket restrictor plate.

Totally different topic: do you all back up your game data? I got the kid a PS4 for Christmas and there's been one instance since then where he lost progress in a game due to a corrupted file. Only happened that one time and fortunately he hadn't gotten far in yet, but is that something to worry about?

I think psplus syncs saves to the cloud, but that's probably not consistent between games and I'm not sure how good they are at not propagating local corruption

One data point: I've had my PS4 for a couple years, and haven't had any corrupted saves.

Check the Upload/Download Saved Data menu dialogs, but if it was a long time ago then it's probably too late. Usually there are a few instances of your data in there.

if you're really hardcore, early rejecter - you can get a high quality fight stick, and buy a restrictor gate like the ones seen here:

Spider-Man (as much as I played it) and God of War share a similar button-mashing DNA, I've got to admit. But swinging around the city in Spider-Man is about as good as that sort of thing gets in game.

I've just started playing The Outer Wilds. I'm loving it so far.

I literally just looked up which was which, Worlds vs. Wilds, and I already forgot. Is this the looping one?

(Wilds is the 22 minute loop one and is amazing)

Outer Wilds is fab though.

At first I was a bit disappointed by the cartoonish characters, the slightly vectory graphics, fiddly controls and the fact there's no speech, just writing. It does give me the feeling it was all made using the Dreams software package, but this is an indie game after all.

Once it gets going though, all these factors get left behind. It's a really lovely, extremely original game. I'd say the closest thing I can link it to are the old Elite games perhaps.

for the kind of game it is it's a little unforgiving imo. very easy to die, very hard at times to make progress. but yes extremely original, but very fun i just wish i felt inspired to finish/solve it.

there have been moments when the game seems to suddenly glitch out and send me into a completely different world, or I'll end up suddenly transported into another random spot in space, but I can't work out if it's a mistake or part of the game yet. spent ages trying to use my rocket pack to jump out of water onto a platform

I downloaded NBA 2K20 and COD Warzone this week. A 1TB console can store 7-8 games of that size. Ridiculous.

wilds was openly in development with that title for years before worlds was announced. and "the outer worlds" is not a remotely good enough name to warrant the inevitable confusion.

this is at least the third time the worlds or wilds conversation has happened on ilx
