Is that news, or only that it is coming to Switch? They had at least said it would hit other consoles in 2020, right?
― Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 7 April 2020 16:14 (four years ago) link
switch version is new news
― ciderpress, Tuesday, 7 April 2020 16:16 (four years ago) link
great news - my preferred console for indie games

Hmm.. I'm inherently skeptical of any game with that much tiny text playing well on a console tbh

― ciderpress, Friday, 10 April 2020 19:55 (four years ago) link
to be clear, in y'alls opinion: if i don't give a shit about baseball, i will like this series?
― Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Friday, 10 April 2020 19:58 (four years ago) link
no?
― na (NA), Friday, 10 April 2020 19:59 (four years ago) link
okay, i thought this was one of those where the gameplay trumps the genre
― Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Friday, 10 April 2020 20:00 (four years ago) link
I don't give a shit about baseball but SMB owns. I imagine if I gave a shit about baseball it would own^2
― megan thee macallan 18 year (||||||||), Friday, 10 April 2020 20:00 (four years ago) link
good enough for me; downloading the smb2 demo
― Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Friday, 10 April 2020 20:02 (four years ago) link
baseball has such a specific and constrained game space that you can't really make baseball gameplay that appeals to someone who doesn't like baseball
if you're saying you don't care about watching pro baseball then that's another matter
― ciderpress, Friday, 10 April 2020 20:03 (four years ago) link
I've never watched or played baseball, and didn't really understand the rules (never mind the nuances) until I played SMB... I still find it heaps of fun and it became more fun the more I learned about the nuances of the game so I guess to that extent it maybe means I'm 'into baseball'?
― megan thee macallan 18 year (||||||||), Friday, 10 April 2020 20:07 (four years ago) link
I like cricket
they should make super mega cricket
― megan thee macallan 18 year (||||||||), Friday, 10 April 2020 20:08 (four years ago) link
i was more of a smb1 guy but 2 is also good
― reggae mike love (polyphonic), Friday, 10 April 2020 20:08 (four years ago) link
personally i don't think someone who doesn't like baseball would like super mega baseball, but that's just me. it does have some cartoony/arcade-like aspects, but it doesn't go so far to change the game as, say, NFL Blitz or NBA Jam did
― let me be your friend on the other end! (Karl Malone), Friday, 10 April 2020 20:11 (four years ago) link
i'd say so, especially if you like cricket!
if baseball ever starts up again, mosey on over to the ILBaseball board. the team to root for is definitely the st louis cardinals - JOIN US
― let me be your friend on the other end! (Karl Malone), Friday, 10 April 2020 20:12 (four years ago) link
no thanks I don't like baseball
― megan thee macallan 18 year (||||||||), Friday, 10 April 2020 20:12 (four years ago) link
The hitting mechanic is relatively simple but different from any other baseball game I've played. It's like when you find a really good fishing game in an RPG. I could see it having some non-baseball appeal based on the fun of the basic mechanics.
― reggae mike love (polyphonic), Friday, 10 April 2020 20:14 (four years ago) link
ya I like thwacking it

I contemplated buying 2 on Switch already at some point but I'm waiting for 3 now.
― silby, Friday, 10 April 2020 20:24 (four years ago) link
i think i may have bought 2 and never played it now that you mention it
― ciderpress, Friday, 10 April 2020 20:30 (four years ago) link
i love baseball but i have yet to love a baseball video game. SMB2 is pretty good. i'm not crazy about the art style and i haven't found the right difficulty level to make it challenging but fun yet, but the gameplay is solid.
― na (NA), Friday, 10 April 2020 20:46 (four years ago) link
I don't give a shit about baseball but really liked that weird 3DS game with the dog that sells you cartridges for your Nontendo 4DS, but you could haggle with him to make them cheaper? now that I write this out it sounds more like a fever dream. anyway there was one in particular that was a baseball umpire simulator that I got obsessed with.

― megan thee macallan 18 year (||||||||), Sunday, 12 April 2020 20:39 (four years ago) link
I bought the Witcher 3. I played twenty minutes of it. It’s gory and um grimdark. Does it lighten up or did I spend $59 to be in a grumpy mood for eight million hours?
― rb (soda), Sunday, 12 April 2020 21:06 (four years ago) link
it alternates between zany and grim and gritty but it's best to take everything from the word go with an industrial salt lick
― Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Sunday, 12 April 2020 21:08 (four years ago) link
yeah the whole concept of the witcher is fantasy noir. its got a very deadpan humor to a lot of it though

It is great because you have to communicate, and then somebody will always make a mistake. After which we get to hear stuff like "sorry, that was my fault" or "it's ok", which is a small miracle out of that little dude.

Got around to Yoku's Island Express. Fun! Nice mash-up of Metroidvania + pinball video game adventure from the Worms people, so it's adorable. Strong Donkey Kong Country / Rayman vibes.

So Aviary Attorney (SPOILERS) is this fun lighthearted Ace Attorney knockoff in 19c Paris. You collect evidence, cross-examine witnesses, and as a touching sideplot you and your opposing attorney (the prosecutor) gain grudging respect for each other. At least, it was lighthearted until I found myself defending my friend the prosecutor deep in the catacombs ... but for the first time I didn't have the right evidence ... the game just mercilessly chunked through its mechanics, forcing me to select, with mounting horror, a wrong piece of evidence, then another, then another ... until the "judge" got impatient and shot my friend the prosecutor and he died.
I put it down right after, but I don't think this is an inevitable shift in tone in the game, I think I just messed up collecting evidence and the consequences were traumatizing.
