the old 2d marios are definitely the hardest. 64 probably the hardest 3d one in the normal levels, the postgame challenge levels in the newer ones are harder though

I may be overrating 64 tbh

no way, the amount of effort they went into designing sheer joy of moving and inhabiting environments in 64 is still stunning

yeah, i know what you mean. they are often compared to each other in terms of just overall quality/fun, and although i like odyssey a lot it's not on the same level as BotW

100% agreed, but if you own a Switch this should be the second game you buy for sure

there's enough good switch games now that i wouldn't try to call anything an essential. two years ago it would have been more accurate

like animal crossing and smash are gonna be easily more essential than both of those for various sects of people

ok, Smash I'll give because it is like the ur-version of all Smashes combined
Animal Crossing seems pretty incremental compared to older versions, but i haven't looked too deep into the new version

The RC car operator is the only human Mario can capture in Super Mario Odyssey. Normally, he is only seen from behind during this. the cap jump is so crucial

the cap is the best mario mechanic they should never make another mario with cappy

also the seamlessness of the camera control kinda makes the other mario unplayable

i hope they are making odyssey 2

odyssey is kind of funny its very easy "to win" but doesnt really become awesome until you are pretty good at it

i need to go back to odyssey and try to poopsock the remaining moons. i didn't spend enough time with it, the first time around, because it was my first switch game and i was itching to get into breath of the wild.

but i don't think any mario mechanic can top the raccoon suit
