Genuinely thought Cerny was Dana Carvey for a few seconds.

Finally got Lonely Mountain Downhill since it's on sale. So far so good

I'm having that thing of wanting to get lost in a huge game for the next few weeks, but putting it off cos I can't be bothered with the tedious first few hours of learning how everything works.
― ( X '____' )/ (zappi), Thursday, 19 March 2020 18:12 (four years ago) link
It always takes less time than you thinkGT Sport so unbelievably satisfying to me rn
― Li'l Brexit (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 19 March 2020 18:27 (four years ago) link
Haha those first few hours are always my favourite, learning how it works is the fun bit, beyond that it’s all just a big todo list.
― JimD, Thursday, 19 March 2020 20:22 (four years ago) link
Control, while it has some issues, was overall pretty great. I'm gonna save some thoughts for when it inevitably ends up in the yearly poll results.
― Nhex, Saturday, 28 March 2020 20:40 (four years ago) link
I am here for any Control love.
― Triceratops Vowell (Leee), Sunday, 29 March 2020 00:48 (four years ago) link
downloaded Control and Dawn of Man.
still playing Death Stranding and trying to work out if I love love it or if it's a bit tedious over all. I like big games like this to have a lot of story, and this does have a hell of a lot of lore going on, plus lots of unexpected moments (nightmares in the Private Room are a fantastic twist), but sometimes completing standard orders and going over the same terrain over and over can feel gruelling

Control has always looked awesome, but I've been waiting for it to drop to $20 before picking it up, since I have a ton of cool stuff I've accumulated on PS4 to burn through first. Bloodborne, God of War, Spider-man, Wolfensteins, Uncharteds, Witcher 3, Event Horizon Dawn, Mad Max, Last of Us, RE2, more Alien, Sekiro, some other stuff ... just looking at that list makes me so happy.
― Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 29 March 2020 12:57 (four years ago) link
Bloodborne, haven't played! next time i go back to the From Software well it'll probably be this or sekiroGod of War, any time you get stuck, just throw your axe at objects in the sky!Spider-man, trying to get through life without watching or playing any spider-man. i bet it's actually pretty good but i have to keep the streak alive nowWolfensteins, a friend of mine is obsessed with the newer rebootsUncharteds, no! no nathan drake! fuck you nathan drake!Witcher 3, oh hell yeah, but this one is 400+ hours long, just for the introductionEvent Horizon Dawn, one of those AAA games that i know is going to be really good and fun in some ways and also predictable in others. seems like the archetypal "play for 25 hours and quit" game, for me.Mad Max, didn't know there was one!Last of Us, i really need to play this, i never gave it a real shotRE2, haven't played it since PS daysmore Alien, Alieeeen!Sekiro, Sekirooo!
― Karl Malone, Sunday, 29 March 2020 15:22 (four years ago) link
finished spiderman and event horizon!.Both super fun! I like spiderman because we could shout things like "no, go to the west side! where we went kayaking that one time!" They did the city so well.
― Yerac, Sunday, 29 March 2020 15:52 (four years ago) link
You guys trolling me with this "Event Horizon Dawn" lol.
I 100% lost interest in Spider Man, never care to play it again.
― Triceratops Vowell (Leee), Sunday, 29 March 2020 15:54 (four years ago) link
GOW is wildly overpraised.Never want to play an Uncharted again.
― Triceratops Vowell (Leee), Sunday, 29 March 2020 15:59 (four years ago) link
I enjoy GOW well enough. We are I think halfway through. I am tired of rowing this boat.
― Yerac, Sunday, 29 March 2020 16:00 (four years ago) link
I like to throw things in the house now and shout "Nista!"
― Yerac, Sunday, 29 March 2020 16:01 (four years ago) link
bloodborne is amazing - in fact i replayed it just the other month. i found spider-man staggeringly dull. witcher is grebt but like yerman says it’s a long playsekiro. sekiroooooo.
― Fizzles, Sunday, 29 March 2020 19:16 (four years ago) link
i kind of enjoyed GoW but it didn’t have much sticking power for me and i stopped prob about halfway thru.
― Fizzles, Sunday, 29 March 2020 19:17 (four years ago) link
i found spiderman amazingly fun and freeing; webbing your way through faux manhattan is very dreamlike
― Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Sunday, 29 March 2020 19:41 (four years ago) link
yeah i liked the speed of the character. I get annoyed sometimes with how long it takes to move sometimes in other games.
― Yerac, Sunday, 29 March 2020 19:43 (four years ago) link
yeah spider-man rules, i had thought this was universally accepted but i guess not
― Nhex, Sunday, 29 March 2020 19:47 (four years ago) link
just went back and did the DLC recently so it's fresh in my mind
― Nhex, Sunday, 29 March 2020 19:48 (four years ago) link
I just bought Skyrim, even though my track record with medieval/open world games is rather poor.
― Triceratops Vowell (Leee), Sunday, 29 March 2020 20:10 (four years ago) link
Skyrim is fantastic. I probably sunk 200+ hours into it
― groovypanda, Sunday, 29 March 2020 20:13 (four years ago) link
hard to imagine a game much better suited for a quarantine
― Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Sunday, 29 March 2020 20:13 (four years ago) link
Skyrim is by far the worst game I have ever put 300+ hours into
Sekiro is the game that most makes me feel like that "EVERY MORNING I WAKE UP AND OPEN PALM A VHS INTO THE SLOT. ITS CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK" meme
― Dadjokke (Sgt. Biscuits), Sunday, 29 March 2020 20:51 (four years ago) link
Control DLC ready for me to play, excited to jump back in while Skyrim downloads.
― Triceratops Vowell (Leee), Sunday, 29 March 2020 23:08 (four years ago) link
i liked Control but- too much fiddly aiming- really bad face animationsI feel like Sekiro is totally For Me but maybe a younger version of me with more patience?
― Li'l Brexit (Tracer Hand), Monday, 30 March 2020 13:55 (four years ago) link
- too much fiddly aiming
this is why i've avoided Control, up until now. precision aiming with the PS4 analog stick is excruciating for me, like it actually puts me in a bad mood
― Karl Malone, Monday, 30 March 2020 15:22 (four years ago) link
shooters are pc games to me forever and always
― ciderpress, Monday, 30 March 2020 15:30 (four years ago) link
Control is.. kind of a shooter?
― mh, Monday, 30 March 2020 15:30 (four years ago) link
tim rogers called it a "metroid prime-like" which intrigues me. can anyone else corroborate?
― diamonddave85 (diamonddave85), Monday, 30 March 2020 15:44 (four years ago) link
i complained about this on whatchu playing now but i thought control was cool until i couldn't get past the first boss. i am terrible at shooters though.
― na (NA), Monday, 30 March 2020 15:50 (four years ago) link
its a shooter/adventure game hybrid like metroid prime yes. prime had lock-on shooting though iirc so it didn't require very much aiming
― ciderpress, Monday, 30 March 2020 16:05 (four years ago) link
I can't aim worth shit on the PS4. When I restarted Doom on that system I had to set the level down to poopypants or whatever, because it's like I'm playing with my left hand only and no thumb. Didn't know Control needed, well, controlled aiming.
― Josh in Chicago, Monday, 30 March 2020 16:11 (four years ago) link
control also doesn't let you change the difficulty fyi
― na (NA), Monday, 30 March 2020 16:13 (four years ago) link
Yeah, Control is actually fairly hard and has few alleviations for that (aside from investing in the Launch power, but that won't get you through everything alone); one of the flaws for sure. A friend of mine never made it past the first boss fight and gave up on the game :( Your main defensive powers don't open up for a long time and you have to run-and-gun or duck behind furniture for a while.
It is like Metroid Prime in its overall world map, places getting unlocked over time via new abilities, environment puzzles, secrets, collectibles etc. an a relatively enclosed world, as opposed to the stuff you see in GTA and Assassin's Creed games. Also the dark, mysterious, lore-ridden spookiness of it, maybe.
― Nhex, Monday, 30 March 2020 16:34 (four years ago) link
Ack, just saw that you had the same problem as my friend, NA
― Nhex, Monday, 30 March 2020 16:35 (four years ago) link
yeah. i wish games still had cheat codes.
― na (NA), Monday, 30 March 2020 16:38 (four years ago) link
I admit that the shooting isn't great in CONTROL, but the game wants you to use the Launch ability as your primary offensive weapon.
― Triceratops Vowell (Leee), Monday, 30 March 2020 16:46 (four years ago) link
Moreover, Launch has auto-lock so as long as you get your reticle in the neighborhood of an enemy they'll probably get hit with a wad of concrete.
― Triceratops Vowell (Leee), Monday, 30 March 2020 16:51 (four years ago) link
Yep, and even the gun aiming is fairly generous when you are using Pierce.
Regular battles are easy, the bosses are quite tough so far.
― ShariVari, Monday, 30 March 2020 16:55 (four years ago) link
Mostly because it is very easy to fall off stuff when you are fighting them though.
― ShariVari, Monday, 30 March 2020 16:56 (four years ago) link
launch and levitate and a modicum of common sense will see u thru
first boss is the hardest required boss, a few of the side bosses are pretty tough. very annoyed that the DLC is ps4-exclusive (or at least not on xbox) for the time being!!
― adam, Monday, 30 March 2020 17:04 (four years ago) link
agree first boss is the hardest then it gets easier tho i did quit in frustration last night after dying twice to some banshee/phantom boss in black mesa that appears behind you clobbers you for 90% of your health and then turns invisible only to do it again. both times i got her to a sliver of health and then died myself. frustrating!
― Mordy, Monday, 30 March 2020 17:06 (four years ago) link
I read that you can sit pat and use shield to block most of the banshee's damage, I never tried it though. (What I did actually track it down while it's mostly invisible -- you can see some ripples in the air to roughly locate it. Also, evade when it becomes visible again.)
― Triceratops Vowell (Leee), Monday, 30 March 2020 17:08 (four years ago) link
i'm not sure i have shield. where do i get it? i do have evade.
― Mordy, Monday, 30 March 2020 17:10 (four years ago) link
I'd completely forgotten that it's an acquired ability! You get it on this side quest: https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2019-08-28-control-a-good-defence-shield-6043
If that's not available to you yet, IIRC you can still spam evade to avoid getting hit by her. I also remember struggling against that boss.
― Triceratops Vowell (Leee), Monday, 30 March 2020 17:17 (four years ago) link
haven't played Control for a while but the one thing that became obvious was that doing the side quests is key because unless you're insanely good, you need all those abilities
― mh, Monday, 30 March 2020 17:23 (four years ago) link
ah, you know i did get that mission but i couldn't figure out how to get into field training bc the door had that red block on it and i didn't realize i could puzzle solve to open it. thought it would just open later on its own and i'd backtrack.
― Mordy, Monday, 30 March 2020 17:26 (four years ago) link
Yeah, any sidequest that mention an Object of Power, do it right away. Hah, yeah, I had the same feeling on that particular thing; it's not always clear what a story-progression gate and what's an environmental puzzle to solve.
