A PS4 Thread: Because You Had to Play "Knack"

they kind of admitted multiple times that going with a technically complex non-standard design on the PS3 was a bad idea. developer ramp-up time was bad, ability to emulate it in hardware, let alone software, is tricky... all in all, a good lesson for the industry :/

yeah you need a pretty beefy PC to emulate PS3 at consistent 30fps still, not sure if the PS5 will be beefy enough even for the games that do work

luckily most of the big games from that gen have been ported forward at this point but i get that's not the same since you can't use the disc you already have

Still want to try Tokyo Jungle :(

Finally got Lonely Mountain Downhill since it's on sale. So far so good

I'm having that thing of wanting to get lost in a huge game for the next few weeks, but putting it off cos I can't be bothered with the tedious first few hours of learning how everything works.

Haha those first few hours are always my favourite, learning how it works is the fun bit, beyond that it’s all just a big todo list.

Control, while it has some issues, was overall pretty great. I'm gonna save some thoughts for when it inevitably ends up in the yearly poll results.

still playing Death Stranding and trying to work out if I love love it or if it's a bit tedious over all. I like big games like this to have a lot of story, and this does have a hell of a lot of lore going on, plus lots of unexpected moments (nightmares in the Private Room are a fantastic twist), but sometimes completing standard orders and going over the same terrain over and over can feel gruelling

Control has always looked awesome, but I've been waiting for it to drop to $20 before picking it up, since I have a ton of cool stuff I've accumulated on PS4 to burn through first. Bloodborne, God of War, Spider-man, Wolfensteins, Uncharteds, Witcher 3, Event Horizon Dawn, Mad Max, Last of Us, RE2, more Alien, Sekiro, some other stuff ... just looking at that list makes me so happy.

Bloodborne, haven't played! next time i go back to the From Software well it'll probably be this or sekiro

Spider-man, trying to get through life without watching or playing any spider-man. i bet it's actually pretty good but i have to keep the streak alive now

Witcher 3, oh hell yeah, but this one is 400+ hours long, just for the introduction
Event Horizon Dawn, one of those AAA games that i know is going to be really good and fun in some ways and also predictable in others. seems like the archetypal "play for 25 hours and quit" game, for me.
Mad Max, didn't know there was one!
Last of Us, i really need to play this, i never gave it a real shot

finished spiderman and event horizon!.Both super fun! I like spiderman because we could shout things like "no, go to the west side! where we went kayaking that one time!" They did the city so well.

bloodborne is amazing - in fact i replayed it just the other month.
i found spider-man staggeringly dull.

i kind of enjoyed GoW but it didn’t have much sticking power for me and i stopped prob about halfway thru.

i found spiderman amazingly fun and freeing; webbing your way through faux manhattan is very dreamlike

yeah i liked the speed of the character. I get annoyed sometimes with how long it takes to move sometimes in other games.

just went back and did the DLC recently so it's fresh in my mind

I just bought Skyrim, even though my track record with medieval/open world games is rather poor.

Skyrim is fantastic. I probably sunk 200+ hours into it

hard to imagine a game much better suited for a quarantine

Control DLC ready for me to play, excited to jump back in while Skyrim downloads.

i liked Control but

- too much fiddly aiming

this is why i've avoided Control, up until now. precision aiming with the PS4 analog stick is excruciating for me, like it actually puts me in a bad mood

i complained about this on whatchu playing now but i thought control was cool until i couldn't get past the first boss. i am terrible at shooters though.

its a shooter/adventure game hybrid like metroid prime yes. prime had lock-on shooting though iirc so it didn't require very much aiming

I can't aim worth shit on the PS4. When I restarted Doom on that system I had to set the level down to poopypants or whatever, because it's like I'm playing with my left hand only and no thumb. Didn't know Control needed, well, controlled aiming.

control also doesn't let you change the difficulty fyi

Yeah, Control is actually fairly hard and has few alleviations for that (aside from investing in the Launch power, but that won't get you through everything alone); one of the flaws for sure. A friend of mine never made it past the first boss fight and gave up on the game :( Your main defensive powers don't open up for a long time and you have to run-and-gun or duck behind furniture for a while.

It is like Metroid Prime in its overall world map, places getting unlocked over time via new abilities, environment puzzles, secrets, collectibles etc. an a relatively enclosed world, as opposed to the stuff you see in GTA and Assassin's Creed games. Also the dark, mysterious, lore-ridden spookiness of it, maybe.

yeah. i wish games still had cheat codes.

I admit that the shooting isn't great in CONTROL, but the game wants you to use the Launch ability as your primary offensive weapon.

Moreover, Launch has auto-lock so as long as you get your reticle in the neighborhood of an enemy they'll probably get hit with a wad of concrete.

Yep, and even the gun aiming is fairly generous when you are using Pierce.

Regular battles are easy, the bosses are quite tough so far.

Mostly because it is very easy to fall off stuff when you are fighting them though.

launch and levitate and a modicum of common sense will see u thru

first boss is the hardest required boss, a few of the side bosses are pretty tough. very annoyed that the DLC is ps4-exclusive (or at least not on xbox) for the time being!!

agree first boss is the hardest then it gets easier tho i did quit in frustration last night after dying twice to some banshee/phantom boss in black mesa that appears behind you clobbers you for 90% of your health and then turns invisible only to do it again. both times i got her to a sliver of health and then died myself. frustrating!

I read that you can sit pat and use shield to block most of the banshee's damage, I never tried it though. (What I did actually track it down while it's mostly invisible -- you can see some ripples in the air to roughly locate it. Also, evade when it becomes visible again.)

i'm not sure i have shield. where do i get it? i do have evade.
