Apparently XBL being down today also means Media Centre being down, as far as the 360 is concerned. Pretty irritating given that I've just set up a TV card for my media server and now I can't test it.

is it worth getting the F3: Anchorage package? i'm not all the way through the original yet so please no spoilers, but I can definitely see me wanting more of this when I am

It's fine, it's pretty interesting really. it's not fallouty at all, it's more like playing Goldeneye in the fallout engine, and that's fun in its own little way.

on a one man mission to pound my way through clearance purchase of F.E.A.R. 2 so I can trade it in on prototype - assuming replay value is like nil, right?

Finally played 1 vs. 100 last night. It was a lot of fun. "Hard Questions" was an accurate description.

ok F.E.A.R. 2 replay value is def nil, so its going away. Not terrible, but just more of the samey shooter deal (oh and the ending was blaaaaaaaaah) - and yikes there were points where you could feel monolith lifting level design straight out of the condemned stuff, but unfortunately instead of scraping for a lead pipe to beat on someone with, you are SUPER POWERED SOLDIER DUDE with like a billion weapons and functionally limitless ammo drops and so on.

another one of those totally bizarre things where there are like 7 dudes that ever play the multiplayer, but they play it 24-7 and are fucking unkillable super-skilled maniacs. How does this happen to people? I experienced the same thing when i picked up doom 3 (lol at me) and there were these dudes totally obsessed with playing this shitty shitty game on xbox live like 6 moths after everyone else had bailed on it - prob worth its own thread, but i always wonder about who these people are.

maybe kids w/no disposable income and plenty of time to sink into games? I played the original TMNT NES game way more than I should have just because I got it as a present and didn't have much else to play!

i finally cracked the top ten by question 30 last night!

I was in the top ten after 25 questions once, but then a question completely blindsided me.

missed the final top ten by about two thousand points.
I play this much better when my girl and i play as one player.

I don't understand how this game works. It's 1 vs. 100, but thousands of people are playing. I was clearly in the top 3 in my group of 100, and beat the guy who was "the one", but lost to someone who wasn't in my group for the prizes. So clearly the prizes are given only to the top 3 among the thousands. Do the people in other groups play against the same "one", though? It seems like it, given that the host guy can't possibly be doing live v.o. for a bunch of different contestants.

could be more then one v.o. guy. agree that it'd be better if you could see how everyone is doing in the mob since that's your competition. it's still fun though.

There's the one, then the "mob" (which makes up the 100), then the "crowd", which is all the other thousands of people. Chances are you've just not been in the mob yet, they get chosen from the crowd pretty randomly (although I think they take into account how well you're playing as a member of the crowd too).

Don't think you can get prizes as part of the crowd, except that every right answer wins you another entry into a prize sweepstake or something. Still, to get anything proper you need to be in the mob (and even then I think you can only win gamerpoints and XBLA games). To win anything really proper you need to be the one.

You get prizes in the crowd if you're in the top three at the top of each round... which means you scored highest of 48 K people. Kinda unlikely.
Everybody gets microsoft points or arcade games, that's pretty much it.

If people are chosen based on their prior performance, how do they miss such easy fucking questions.

yeah, unless they start picking people who can cruise through the first six questions and getting somewhat more intelligent mob members (25 didn't know what a crepe was?) this game is not going to be worth playing.

This is why I didn't buy it. If you can't beat the trial level, there really isn't much point buying levels that follow it.

One of the cool features of the XBLA version is being able to watch the top player replays. It definitely helped me a lot with being able to figure out the chaining system and to learn some techniques to improve my game. I never put the time into learning the whole game though (just to the third level). It's sort of the peak of the STG genre in terms of complexity and difficulty (especially if you're playing for score), but also the peak in beauty too. Watching somebody beat the final levels and bosses w/o dying is mind blowing stuff.

i asked this on the Farcry/Crisis/Etc. thread, but i think it sank into oblivion already - anyone else playing Far Cry 2? I really like it so far. Also, if anyone has actually played Fuel (despite its dire dire reviews) i would be curious what they thought because the demo seemed really fun.

not so keen on the ghostbusters demo tho. the complaints about spending lots of time reviving yer famous inept buddies seems OTM.

I really hated the Fuel demo AND the Ghostbusters demo.

I really want to play Farcry 2, but haven't gotten a chance yet.

my only real beef w/Fuel demo is the fact that riding a motorcycle into shrubs and trees should um probably have some effect on me? Appears that the collision detection is not really happening for the foliage in most of the free ride areas, which is dumb.

its really pretty challenging, which is refreshing after lots of no consequence hey charge in and spray bullets stuff, but does so w/o becoming yet another infuriating (blarrrgghhh. yawn.) "stealth game".

in old game news, nothing in the world is as satisfying as tearing around pointlessly for hours on a motorcycle in burnout: paradise. that game rocks so hard.

Monkey island was boring me to death, I think. I'm not cut out for that style of "game".

Ouch. I was playing last night (UK tho), and one of the Ones got down to 3 remaining mob members, which is apparently the best anyone's ever managed. Can't remember what she actually won after all that, but it was almost nothing. Seems increasingly apparent that your chances of winning anything are tiny, and if you do win something it's unlikely to be worth more than about a fiver. But I'm still finding it fun.

She didn't get anything, she got the answer wrong (the one about which ghetto Schindler's List was set in, I think). I was egging her on to win.

I like playing this, but the "superhard" game isn't all that great, a third of the questions were about alpine skiing and at least 4 were "Who won the Master's cup in 19xx?". I think they must compile that one from the answers everyone gets wrong in the other games.

so for watching movies you've downloaded on your tv via your xbox, what's the best solution? the one time I tried before my memory is that watching stuff over your network or whatever is awful and just not possible, I used a friend's external hard drive instead and connected that to the xbox and that was fine.

but I have no usb stick or ext hard drive....

External hard drive is how I do it, although I successfully watched one via USB Flash memory as well.
