My first level: CVN-9PX-D0G
I enjoy fast jumping so it is based around that (it’s a good level). If anyone needs help in the first tricky section turn on comments.

Oh yeah, I bought a Switch almost a month ago specifically for SMM2.

Everyone who has cleared my course gave me like. Everyone else didn't.

I watched streamers (with small chatrooms) play my level. The first time I uploaded it I went back and made it easier because the first streamer thought it was annoying/hard.

When I watched 2 people play the revised version today, one guy had a lot of fun and another guy got irritated and said that I should change it to make it "less exact"/easier.

People don't outright say it but they will likely never ❤️ a level if it doesn't fall into their skill-level comfort-zone.

ilm jive mind (FlopsyDuck), Tuesday, 6 August 2019 15:30 (six years ago)

i'm gonna try to give yr level a shot tonight! i would rate my mario skillz at about 8.2/10. i can play SMB3 all the way through, but i'm not very good at levels that require advanced tricks like shelljumping

Karl Malone, Tuesday, 6 August 2019 15:34 (six years ago)

I will try the level codes in this thread tonight

ilm jive mind (FlopsyDuck), Tuesday, 6 August 2019 16:11 (six years ago)

i am fucking terrible at this; can't get past five levels in the normal course

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Tuesday, 6 August 2019 16:24 (six years ago)

how do courses get placed in the easy/normal/hard neverending path? do they just eventually hit a critical threshold of number of plays, and then the difficulty path depends on the clear rate? or do you have to mail nintendo a $15 check? because i'm not doing that unless they send me Dragon Warrior on NES and a 1-year subscription to nintendo power

Karl Malone, Tuesday, 6 August 2019 16:50 (six years ago)

The Sacrifice of Yoshi - Liked the overall shape (every which way) and steady difficulty

Five pink coins buys a key - At first I thought I would like it more because of the meandering layout but I got myself lost looking for the last exit even though I had entered the key door right next to it twice. This one also seemed sloppy
The
Escape the Ghousthouse! - Liked the one room layout and ghost interference made for some good hazards. The level made me think of my feet with the spin jump.

Porplevillea - Again I like the one room layout. This time it is more aesthetically pleasing. I died a bunch and learned a thing or two. Enjoyable albeit hard challenge.

ilm jive mind (FlopsyDuck), Wednesday, 7 August 2019 16:27 (six years ago)

really cool level, flopsy! i can tell how much effort went into it. it was a perfect challenge for me because it definitely took me many tries for each section, but i could also see how it was supposed to be done and it never seemed impossible.

frogbs, Wednesday, 14 August 2019 14:39 (six years ago)

just wanna say, as someone who used to be obsessed with Excitebike's level creator and spent lots of time as a 7-year old designing Mario levels on paper, this game makes me extremely happy, and also bummed that I don't really have the time to play it

frogbs, Wednesday, 14 August 2019 14:41 (six years ago)

sweet, now make a tip calculator

change display name (Jordan), Wednesday, 14 August 2019 14:46 (six years ago)

that ghost house that has the block which makes the screen experience an NES-style glitch was pretty neat, actually made me laugh out loud

there's a lot of funny stuff in this game, idk when it happened but someone at Nintendo has a great sense of humor

frogbs, Monday, 19 August 2019 14:53 (six years ago)

Nintendo has had a decent sense of humor for a long time (your princess is in another castle)

Karl Malone, Monday, 19 August 2019 15:36 (six years ago)

i kinda fell for ryukahr's calm process and have been watching maybe a half hour of him playing every day. I'm a nerd!

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Thursday, 26 September 2019 20:22 (six years ago)

I’m still watching JuzCook even though he mostly posts troll levels.

brain dead operatus (FlopsyDuck), Thursday, 26 September 2019 23:58 (six years ago)

xp

I've been watching some "CarlSagan42" videos lately. His specialty is playing troll levels -- levels where players needs to make decisions, and the designer tries to get them to choose the wrong ones. Lots of creative terminology like "carl box" (an area where stopping and thinking is the wrong choice), "anti-softlock" (areas where you would be stuck, but there's a difficult way to kill yourself) and "twice twice" (two different areas that look the same). I'm impressed by how varied SMM2 levels can be.

Here's a good example.

Juz and Carl are like a team. The whole crew of kaizo players seem to know each other. It’s kind of funny in a way.

All the Ryukahr videos that popped up in my youtube recommendations used to annoy me because whenever I tried to watch his videos I was put off by his boring, soft persona. Then one day I was watching GlitchCat7 on twitch and he brought up a story about how Ryukahr saved him. At one of the GDQs GlitchCat’s pants started smoking and Ryu got Glitch’s attention. Apparently his vaporizer was acting up in his pocket. Anyways it was cool how GlitchCat spoke fondly of Ryu being a total bro about it. I changed my opinion on Ryu. I still don’t watch his videos but all these guys in the mario maker/smw hack scene seem like genuinely good guys. I admit I was also too quick to judge ThaBeast as well. He looked like some edgy kid and then I clicked his video and heard his strong southern accent and saw how genuinely chill he is. (I don’t know if he knows the other guys but he definitely has strong skills at very difficult mario maker 2 levels).

Oh I enjoy Ryukahr's personality as much as the gaming. The pleasure and appreciation he exudes when he completes a particularly hard game is really palpable

fgti (flamboyant goon tie included), Friday, 27 September 2019 02:31 (six years ago)

I’m in carlsagan42’s discord and it’s the best way I’ve found of finding levels. He has created a system where anyone can submit a level by “genre,” e.g. puzzle, troll, etc., and the level code is posted in a channel where no one can chat—they can only use a react emoji to show that they liked the level. I generally scroll through those channels and find the most upvoted levels, and play those.

my nephew is getting it for christmas, but he doesn't think the game comes out until then. i'm going to make him a giant custom level with this name all over it

that is an amazing christmas gift idea

$1,000,000 or 1 bag of honeycrisp apples (Sufjan Grafton), Tuesday, 3 December 2019 17:36 (six years ago)

I've only played the story mode levels, some of those are incredibly creative. I've actually never taken it online yet and I'm a little afraid to because literally every level I've seen that's online is something I would fail in 0.02 seconds

frogbs, Tuesday, 3 December 2019 17:40 (six years ago)

one of his favorite things is to pretend things are exploding (he's 6), so i will probably just make room after room of giant groups of enemies that can somehow be easily exploded

one month passes...

I dunno why I took so long to take this online but I'm playing through some of the top levels right now and wow, the constant barrage of little graphics and quotes popping up everywhere is hilarious and super annoying

do they have like regular levels on this thing or is everything some insane Rube Goldberg nightmare

frogbs, Thursday, 13 February 2020 23:37 (six years ago)

It’s possible to track down people just making regular levels trying to be good and non-kaizo difficulty, do some clever searching and find some creators who seem good to you I think?

Idk I didn’t spend much time w this

Grand Poo Bear got to 622 on his attempt at 1000 Endless no-skip levels and got taken out in the 49th video. Been watching for six months, it's been a journey.

This co-op level is one of the more insane SMM things I've seen:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ClgzScE7AM

Also apparently people succeeded in clearing all possible levels in the first SMM before they shut down the servers, there are some fun videos about the effort.
