I have to play Tetris 99 with the Joy-Cons bc dpad is mandatory and I accidentally hard drop with the pro controller’s dpad which is unacceptable. But doing diagonal inputs on a dpad is the pits as far as I’m concerned.

xp you're posting in the switch thread where the correct way to do it is gyro instead of stick for Y-axis

Dang that’s true

I’m happy with my pro controller
But one of my joypad sticks seems messed up already, it gets stuck a lot when pushing right and doesn’t register right movement until you get it unstuck. Not sure if Nintendo will service it, have had it more than a year

L'assie (Euler), Saturday, 20 April 2019 20:00 (seven years ago)

if you don’t invert Y-axis you’re a tory sorry

def weird things with left switch sticks.

Josh in Chicago, Saturday, 20 April 2019 20:38 (seven years ago)

I've gotten weirdly so good at Tetris 99

I said "fuck it" and stopped trying to learn T-spins and just started playing with good garbage technique and I've come in 1st four times this past week.

Should I get Cuphead for the Switch? Y/n

Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Saturday, 20 April 2019 22:37 (seven years ago)

I was happy to see that they changed the scoring for the 2nd Tetris 99 tournament; unfortunately I didn't realize it was even happening until the end of the 2nd day. :(

Also, Momodora: Reverie Under the Moonlight finally went on sale, so I picked it up last night. Enjoying it very much so far.

cwkiii, Saturday, 20 April 2019 22:43 (seven years ago)

i now have more hours on tetris than i do on botw + mario combined O_o

found this simple t-spin triple setup that helped me finally wrap my mind around them after a long time of mostly non-understanding (keep an eye on the pieces on the left, everything else is just filling in the gaps)

figured it out heh?

lumen (esby), Saturday, 20 April 2019 23:32 (seven years ago)

well dang it now i wanna figure it out. playing that guides axiom game has broken me and now i am running it thru caesar ciphers and keyboard shifters and stuff

they're not booing you, sir, they're shouting "Boot Edge Edge" (Will M.), Sunday, 21 April 2019 00:09 (seven years ago)

i didn't figure out anything. i just hate it

Nhex, Sunday, 21 April 2019 05:09 (seven years ago)

OK I have started opening my Tetris games with a T-triple set-up and you know what? sure. It's fine. Thank you.

What is annoying is end-game... there is no reallll logic to what pieces will flip across the landscape to their intended location, and 90% of my late-game deaths are the result of me trying to flip and important piece westward and having it run aground

Played a bit of Cuphead, it's like an adorable, beautifully designed Contra! I think I need to remap the controls, though, since it's set up to be pretty cramp-tastic

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 25 April 2019 12:55 (seven years ago)

steamworld quest looks fun

camp pendleton subway yelp review (Sufjan Grafton), Thursday, 25 April 2019 20:54 (seven years ago)

That company seems to have taken a turn for the, well, turn-based. I loved the Metroidvania ones, but didn't buy the last one. Will look into this one.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 25 April 2019 21:02 (seven years ago)

heist is older than dig 2 fwiw, they've been alternating platformer and strategy games

ciderpress, Thursday, 25 April 2019 21:36 (seven years ago)

Had no idea!

Been playing a bit more of Cuphead, which has been a blast. The fights really mess with you. I was attacking a slot machine, and not only was I unclear if and how I was damaging it, every time I died and thought I got a bead on it for next time, its attack would change up! Sneaky.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 26 April 2019 00:23 (seven years ago)

Dark Souls for $28 or katamari reroll for $21? Ive not played either, and I've saved the island express.

camp pendleton subway yelp review (Sufjan Grafton), Saturday, 27 April 2019 01:54 (seven years ago)

Both imo

Steamworld Quest is good, satisfies my residual hearthstone urges

It looks so good. But i can't pay full price.

I rolled a ball through a stanislaw lem story. Then i looked at some blood stains and died.

camp pendleton subway yelp review (Sufjan Grafton), Saturday, 27 April 2019 06:36 (seven years ago)

I forgot all about Katamari! But $20 I can deal with, so bought it. I've never played, but it looks like stupid batshit fun.

Josh in Chicago, Saturday, 27 April 2019 12:49 (seven years ago)

It’s subtle zenlike fun mostly

thats the most famous part of the game tbh

ciderpress, Saturday, 27 April 2019 17:24 (seven years ago)

I've never played the game and I have the song stuck in my head a lot.

Josh in Chicago, Saturday, 27 April 2019 17:51 (seven years ago)

ok, played it for the first time and, well, this game is pretty weird. I could barely figure out the tutorial. I'm going to set it aside for now and go back to cuphead though.

Josh in Chicago, Saturday, 27 April 2019 19:51 (seven years ago)

It started weird for me and then i was hooked. Headphones are a must if playing portable.

local video gamer struggles with new game, goes back to notoriously easy game cuphead instead

these are not all of the possible side effects (Karl Malone), Saturday, 27 April 2019 20:15 (seven years ago)

Ha. But I know what to *do* in Cuphead! I literally can't figure out the tutorial of Katamari. Like, the actual controls on my Pro. For example, when I'm supposed to press r (I think) to jump, I'm not sure if I'm actually jumping. Or when I think I'm supposed to press both sticks down to quick turn, it ... doesn't do anything? I literally can't tell! These are just the empty room instructions, fwiw. I played the actual 10cm tutorial level and that worked out ok, but I'm worried I will need those other controls at some point. (Same with Cuphead, btw, doing OK at the start but can't tell if I'm not beating the slot machine level because I'm not using something I'm supposed to use or just ... not beating it. I think the latter! I can't jump through the stupid bouncing yellow balls right).

Josh in Chicago, Saturday, 27 April 2019 20:50 (seven years ago)

Currently taking a very brief break on Zelda, btw, for anyone wondering! Then I'll get camel and fire mountain monster. I have the master sword and everything else I want/need, I think.

Josh in Chicago, Saturday, 27 April 2019 20:52 (seven years ago)

dark souls feels like zelda on hbo

camp pendleton subway yelp review (Sufjan Grafton), Saturday, 27 April 2019 21:58 (seven years ago)

That's funny, because I played Dark Souls first and it made me feel like Zelda was Dark Souls on Disney.

Josh in Chicago, Saturday, 27 April 2019 22:00 (seven years ago)

I rolled over a patch of cymbal playing toy monkeys and my 3 year old absolutely lost it

camp pendleton subway yelp review (Sufjan Grafton), Saturday, 27 April 2019 22:41 (seven years ago)

katamari may be the better of these two very similar games

camp pendleton subway yelp review (Sufjan Grafton), Saturday, 27 April 2019 22:41 (seven years ago)

there's a lot of rolling in both

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Saturday, 27 April 2019 23:34 (seven years ago)
