i can't work up anything positive or negative to say about skyrim in 2019. it is a large game that exists
― ciderpress, Friday, 12 April 2019 22:17 (seven years ago)
Fuck it I’ll get dead cells 8nstead then
― Chuck_Tatum, Friday, 12 April 2019 22:36 (seven years ago)
i am negative on that one but other people here love it to death so idk
― ciderpress, Friday, 12 April 2019 22:36 (seven years ago)
going to buy my first labo. feel that my lego obsessed son will dig it.

the new vr one?
― ciderpress, Friday, 12 April 2019 22:45 (seven years ago)
skyrim has aged badly in a post BOTW/Witcher 3 world
― closed beta (NotEnough), Saturday, 13 April 2019 13:56 (seven years ago)
though i guess its fine if your just looking for a role-playing sandbox
― closed beta (NotEnough), Saturday, 13 April 2019 14:00 (seven years ago)
xxp variety, I think. Don't know about the vr. It's also twice the price rn.

man, i wanna play the heck outta this game, The Friends of Ringo Ishikawa, after reading Tim Rogers's write-up on it.

I'm gonna check that out yeah

yeah i'm kinda interested now too
― ciderpress, Wednesday, 17 April 2019 22:48 (seven years ago)
More than anything, what immediately shocked me about The Friends of Ringo Ishikawa—well, first was the developer himself confirming that, yes, the title is a reference to The Friends of Eddie Coyle.
― Nhex, Thursday, 18 April 2019 00:48 (seven years ago)
The video is just a stream actually, though he’s liable to make a 90 minute video review one of these days

Just a reminder, Cuphead is now out on the Switch!
― Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 18 April 2019 17:46 (seven years ago)
Cuphead looks *so* gorgeous, but I've read a lot about how difficult it is, and after my experience with Hollow Knight (loved it but too difficult) and Dark Souls (too difficult, lost interest) I think I'll skip this time.
― Chuck_Tatum, Saturday, 20 April 2019 14:41 (seven years ago)
its prob harder than those games
― ciderpress, Saturday, 20 April 2019 14:46 (seven years ago)
definitely a game thats more fun to watch than to play for me
Difficulty depends on the player’s genre preferences, I think. I only played a couple hours of cuphead, but I found it easier than dark souls. I am really bad at 3D action games, but I feel at home in 2D

Buuut I don’t think I’ll buy it for switch (I played on a friend’s PC) because the d-pad hurts my fingers. Maybe I need to upgrade to the pro pad
― these are not all of the possible side effects (Karl Malone), Saturday, 20 April 2019 15:04 (seven years ago)
pro d-pad has issues with ghost inputs on the diagonals, its not perfect either
― ciderpress, Saturday, 20 April 2019 15:09 (seven years ago)
maybe they've fixed it in more recent ones idk
Damn, I’m glad you mentioned that! I’ve beeen considering going pro but if I’m going to pay that much for an extra pad, I want it to be perfect
― these are not all of the possible side effects (Karl Malone), Saturday, 20 April 2019 15:20 (seven years ago)
its the best controller for everything except for games that require d-pad precision
― ciderpress, Saturday, 20 April 2019 15:24 (seven years ago)
I use an 8bitdo pad with the switch on the rare occasion I have it hooked up to the TV, works great
― ( X '____' )/ (zappi), Saturday, 20 April 2019 15:25 (seven years ago)
yeah i'd look into 8bitdo stuff for a bluetooth pad with a good dpad. i personally love the dpad on the pokken controller, but that's wired and doesn't have sticks so its not an all purpose solution
― ciderpress, Saturday, 20 April 2019 15:28 (seven years ago)
oh, nice! i hadn't considered that. i might pick up one of their playstation pad imitations (SN30 Pro+)
― these are not all of the possible side effects (Karl Malone), Saturday, 20 April 2019 15:30 (seven years ago)
i think you can also get an adapter to use a dualshock4 on switch but i havent looked into that
― ciderpress, Saturday, 20 April 2019 15:33 (seven years ago)
How have Nintendo managed to screw up a d-pad?? They invented the d-pad and I mean I’m not an expert or anything, but superficially at least, it looks like they’ve barely changed it at all since the nes.
― JimD, Saturday, 20 April 2019 16:36 (seven years ago)
Some mess about the configuration of the contacts. If you push eg in an upward direction on the left arm you can get an up input. It’s to be regretted.
― don't mock my smock or i'll clean your clock (silby), Saturday, 20 April 2019 16:41 (seven years ago)
basically if you take your pro controller and hold down just the right arm of the d-pad and shift the weight of your finger up and down you can get diagonal inputs because its too sensitive, even though you're not touching the up or down arms. same with any direction on it. theoretically this can happen a little bit with any d-pad thats not individual buttons if you're applying enough force, but the pro controller one is way more sensitive to it than e.g. the ds4.
apparently you can fix it with some surgery by using insulating tape to cover the inner half of the contact pads underneath but i haven't bothered to try since it's not too bad on the xenoblade model that i have.
― ciderpress, Saturday, 20 April 2019 16:44 (seven years ago)
Wow. I mean that can only boil down to “wasn’t broke, tried to fix it anyway” right?
But yeah thanks for the reminder here, I was all set to grab Cuphead but hadn’t stopped to think about the lack of anything appropriate to play it with.
― JimD, Saturday, 20 April 2019 16:56 (seven years ago)
i like the joycon disconnected d-pad! its only bad for fighting games where you have to do motions and such
― ciderpress, Saturday, 20 April 2019 17:00 (seven years ago)
stick would also be fine for cuphead
Sad lol that we’re now referring to four buttons as a “disconnected d-pad”!
Maybe stick would work but I know that pretty much every ps twitch shooter I’ve played over the last few years has given me the choice and I’ve ended up favouring the d-pad.
― JimD, Saturday, 20 April 2019 17:06 (seven years ago)
yeah, for intense dexterity games i have to use the d-pad. analog is out of the question.
pretty much any d-pad hurts my tender thumbs after hours of use (i had to quit celeste on ps4 two different times because of minor thumb injuries!), but the joycon version ends up hurting much more quickly. :(
― these are not all of the possible side effects (Karl Malone), Saturday, 20 April 2019 17:19 (seven years ago)
Played Celeste entirely with the stick tbh
― don't mock my smock or i'll clean your clock (silby), Saturday, 20 April 2019 17:27 (seven years ago)
O_O
i'm jealous, i wish i could!
― these are not all of the possible side effects (Karl Malone), Saturday, 20 April 2019 17:28 (seven years ago)
yeah other than fighting games i prefer using the analog stick for anything with more than 4-way movement, even compared to a good dpad
― ciderpress, Saturday, 20 April 2019 17:34 (seven years ago)
You’ll be telling us you play Tetris with a stick next (my son does this and it makes me feel like I’ve failed as a parent (as does the fact he keeps his y-axis uninverted in FPS games)).

I have to play Tetris 99 with the Joy-Cons bc dpad is mandatory and I accidentally hard drop with the pro controller’s dpad which is unacceptable. But doing diagonal inputs on a dpad is the pits as far as I’m concerned.
