Well, on the plus side "Spider-man" is not nearly as taxing as something like "Dark Souls," so maybe I'll be able to play it and Zelda concurrently. There's time for cauliflower experiments, too, especially since it's -7 outside right now.

I picked up Hollow Knight a few weeks ago and I really love it but I'm pretty much stuck at this point.

soooooo can you not use the switch if it isn't connected to the internet?? all my games are downloaded and i tried using it in airplane mode and none of em work

huh it should definitely work, what games were you trying to play? there was a firmware update yesterday, dunno if that affected things but it shouldn't

i read somewhere that if a device isn't your 'primary' console then you need an internet connection. i had mine stolen a while back. i dissociated that one from my account and got a new one, so i'm really hoping this isn't going to be some weird legacy

all the games i've downloaded throw up a load screen that says 'checking if the software can be played,' which i assumed was firmware-related but now seems to be a DRM check

oh right weird. did you go thru Nintendo customer service to do that or just use some function in their account system? it might still have yr new one designated as secondary

and yeah that's the same message it throws up if you preload a game that isn't out yet and try to run it

jfc -- i deregistered the old one remotely before setting up the new one and it's still showing the new one as not the primary console.

i tried deregistering again and it says you can't do it more than once a year

prob have to get Nintendo customer service to fix it for you then

Their os’s are so weirdly bad

i like how lightweight the switch one is, it boots instantly, but it's coming at the expense of desirable features

the Switch OS has all the features I need: boots instantly, allows me to click on games

Nintendo account system is a confusing mess, but for what it is worth the one time I had to deal with customer service regarding the same they were super nice and helpful, even though it took a long time to straighten things out.

The Wii U OS made me nostalgic for the Wii OS

EG war groove review was quite muted

it's advance wars with a couple neat tweaks and the ability to push balance patches, I don't need it to be an eye-opening evolution of advance wars

What are the "desirable features" you'd want? My only other experience is the PS3, which was so bad it actively made me not want to turn it on as a form of protest. (That's not to mention the whole YLOD thing - a console that doesn't even want to be used! Insane.) I like the Switch fine.

folders/organization mainly. if you have a lot of games the only way to view them afaict is a giant grid of tiles

themes would be fun too but i can live without cosmetic stuff like that

its very good based on watching friends play it. the new steamworld game looks to be a deckbuilder as well

Slay the spire is great fun

Been getting into Slay the Spire a lot. My after work routine for the last week has been roll a J, drink tea, play StS for a hour. Being not good doesn't affect how much I love the gameplay - I've got to the 2nd boss only once and died fairly quickly. Stringing a streak of cards together so the effects multiply into a massive whooping is incredibly satisfying.

I haven't gotten into deck-builders before, they always seemed such faff. Having to play Gwent was (on of) my least favourite bit of Witcher 3. Have I judged the genre unfairly, or is StS just next level?

sts is exceptional but i do like the genre in general

gwent isnt really a deckbuilder iirc

i don't know of any other games besides StS that implement the deckbuilder thing well in a video game, theres a ton of tabletop ones though and some are good

How does Dead Cells compare to Rogue Legacy? seems like some pretty similar ideas at first glance
