i like looking at the twitch index for new games with all the thumbnails as a sample collage of the game's color palette
― ciderpress, Friday, 26 October 2018 21:49 (seven years ago)
I'm going to get carpal tunnel in my thumb holding down A while riding horses.
― louise ck (milo z), Saturday, 27 October 2018 06:43 (seven years ago)
the game is gorgeous (i started playing it last night) and the voice acting is fantastic. the controls tho yeeesh
― Mordy, Saturday, 27 October 2018 13:58 (seven years ago)
rock star games
― ciderpress, Saturday, 27 October 2018 14:48 (seven years ago)
Yeah controls are always an issue with their games... and the races missions almost ruined the first one for me although in theory I should have loved it.
― AlXTC from Paris, Saturday, 27 October 2018 14:57 (seven years ago)
it's kinda sweet that of all the game studios rock star got so caught up in the storytelling / character realization aspects of gaming and completely neglected the ludic elements
― Mordy, Saturday, 27 October 2018 15:04 (seven years ago)
Well, aim for cinematic and you end up with a game better to watch than to play.
― Josh in Chicago, Saturday, 27 October 2018 15:27 (seven years ago)
Saw the first hour last night and it was like watching a cliched, extremely slow moving western movie with android actors. Snow looked pretty though
― calstars, Saturday, 27 October 2018 15:53 (seven years ago)
i'm sure it's a lot more fun once it opens up a bit. that first area is pretty much the tutorial
― Karl Malone, Saturday, 27 October 2018 16:24 (seven years ago)
yeah the main criticism i keep hearing for this is that its extremely slow even compared to tolerably slow paced games like witcher 3 and the like, also that it doesn't explain its systems well
― ciderpress, Saturday, 27 October 2018 16:33 (seven years ago)
sounds pretty realistic.

is it fun?
― (•̪●) (carne asada), Monday, 29 October 2018 17:36 (seven years ago)
It's more pleasurable than fun if that makes sense
― reggae mike love (polyphonic), Monday, 29 October 2018 17:43 (seven years ago)
how's the redemption
― ciderpress, Monday, 29 October 2018 17:50 (seven years ago)
I haven't gotten to the redemption yet, but the poker is incredible
― reggae mike love (polyphonic), Monday, 29 October 2018 17:54 (seven years ago)
i don’t know how to play poker and i do not care to learnwill that be a problem y/n
― la bébé du nom-nom (bizarro gazzara), Monday, 29 October 2018 18:16 (seven years ago)
Poker was one of my favourite bits about the first RDR
― Defund Phil Collins (stevie), Monday, 29 October 2018 19:12 (seven years ago)
It's optional, and you can set it to autoplay hands if you do choose to play.

so so far my guy has a scar on his chin and has been burnt, beat up and blown to pieces
my horse has fallen down and hit large stones, ran into trees and has gotten burned
apparently if you shoot like a shopkeeper on the leg he gets a wooden leg
this thing is crazy detailed

Dominos takes too long and the person who goes first seems to win 90% of the time.

yeah, the poker games were the secret winner of the 1st one.at some point I was only playing poker. And as I wrote upthread, I think, I'm suprised they didn't include an option to cheat/throw the table away and take out your gun !
― AlXTC from Paris, Wednesday, 31 October 2018 09:09 (seven years ago)
when i played the first red dead i got really into the poker to the extent that that was all that i did. then i stopped playing the game altogether.
had the same experience with triple triad in final fantasy 8
― ( ͡☉ ͜ʖ ͡☉) (jim in vancouver), Wednesday, 31 October 2018 16:44 (seven years ago)
card collecting in ff8 was the best thing about the game
― Mordy, Wednesday, 31 October 2018 17:02 (seven years ago)
i saw someone describe this game as an open-world game if open-world games had taken the Far Cry 2 path instead of the AssCreed path and that rang true for me. it reminds me of Far Cry 2 in terms of its immersive-ness and often languid pace. there's a lot to love about it but it's not a very gamey game if that makes sense.
― Mordy, Wednesday, 31 October 2018 17:03 (seven years ago)
it's very character driven and there's room for them to develop into other types of people
i was doing a lot of heists and at one point i talked to tilly and it got somewhat philosophical

Very tempted to buy this... how close is it really to the original in terms of gameplay (as noted above, RDR1 and I did not get on)?
― thomasintrouble, Friday, 2 November 2018 14:34 (seven years ago)
What the hell is going on in that horrific clip!?

― calstars, Friday, 2 November 2018 14:44 (seven years ago)
thomas i haven't played the original rdr in many years but from my memory it's similar but not a carbon copy

my download finally finished at 9pm last night, and I managed to make it to chapter II before heading to bed. seems like i'm past the tutorial area now, so i'm pretty pumped to explore and rename my horse.
― Karl Malone, Tuesday, 6 November 2018 16:13 (seven years ago)
What will you name its nuts?
― Jacob Lohl (stevie), Tuesday, 6 November 2018 16:20 (seven years ago)
Privately, I will name them. The rest of the horse shall be named bird dog

i'm on chapter 5 i believe -- 6 in total and 2 epilogues
about 50% done
there are some really cool plot twists
