playing mario party, cpt toad & inside atm, the plan is smash bros for all of december then hopefully untitled goose game early 2019 :)

wrt Super Mario Party, there are very few play boards and the dice rolling mechanism is slowed down enough to make turns feel like they're lasting twice as long as previous Mario Partys I've played (all N64, never played any since). The concert game is amazing though

it's going to take like a month just to audition every character to figure out who's in my crew this time, the roster is approaching dota/LoL size

if you play the squad strike mode you can have a team of all fire emblems

it's most just the boring sword dudes though

splatoon is so simple but also frustrating.

after 2 weeks splatoon has taken over my life and is fantastic

it's so good, i burned out for a while but would like to revisit at some point and actually try the 1p campaign and dlc campaign

it took like 20 hours of play before the gyro controls & squid movement really clicked for me but after that i felt like a god

there's also like...10 new maps and 20 new weapon sets since i last played, yikes

need to poll primary/secondary/special sets

it's crazy how just flipping one of these can end a hot streak and make you shit all over again

regular blaster 4 life imo

luna blaster is fun too but it sucks ass if your team isn't controlling the map

I am extremely terrible with the blaster. I am mostly an N-ZAP fan.

im good with the nzap and splattershot too but they're not as exciting as popping people

ok I've set my alarm to get up for the smash direct, I've been training my whole life for this (to wake up slightly early to watch a marketing video)

Nintendo directs have to be one of the most ingenious marketing plans ever devised

surprised people aren't already sick of them tbh. it definitely doesn't work as well for Microsoft and Sony

microsoft and sony haven't really tried it, the key is to have them spaced regularly year round rather than just unloading everything at E3

also not telling people when they are until the day before is an important ingredient even though (because?) it causes people to go completely insane

yeah the frothing madness that sets in among enthusiasts waiting for Directs is pretty key to the experience and probably helps with getting attention on them from the people not waiting as closely. The spacing means that a lot of the Nintendo Directs are the first announcement for one or more first-party games that are plausibly coming out within months or a year. Like, Nintendo could've said "there's going to be a Luigi's Mansion 3" 18+ months ago when it presumably went into production and then said nothing, but instead the first look at the game in the Nintendo Direct was unanticipated, had gameplay in it, and had a plausible release window. (Well, year.) And they generate tons of coverage even without flying the games press to some hotel to play the games because they're dense with trailers and details and things to goof about.

I assume Smash will forgo the demo weekend slash network test, to keep the hype frothy, but we’ll see

Piranha Plant is an A+ wtf Sakurai choice. Sad that Arms and XC2 characters are seemingly deconfirmed for DLC
