The online thing is whatever. It’s dumb that they want to tax continued use of their network but if they’d just done so from day 1 with no frills, the NES game library rolling out now would seem like a perk instead of a sop to make people forget they’ve been going online for free for 18 months.

20 bucks a year is pretty reasonable.

nintendo's always sucked at online but at least it's cheap relative to the other consoles. i'll pay my 20 bucks to play the occasional smash or splatoon and not think about it too hard

is the $20 fee required in order to buy/download games online (like ps4's online service)? i'll be really annoyed if that's the case. i own zero physical copies of ps4/switch games, and i really enjoy the option of browsing online and downloading.

you don't have to pay for PS+ to use the PS store, only to play games online

it's generally worth it for both a) the free games every month, which there'll be good ones every so often and b) the extra discounts you get for being a Plus member

Nintendo's service is fairly equivalent to PS+ except the free games are NES games instead of modern games

at 1/3rd of the price i'm ok with that. and i hate adding even more subscriptions to my CC bill

yeah switch has way more dipshits on board than the past 2 generations of Nintendo systems thanks to it launching with an acclaimed open world game and now they're all learning the difference between Nintendo and other pubs in real time

apparently people are fine with it in japan so thats why they do it that way but like 100% of people here complain about it

Is Undertale worth it? I know next to nothing about it except people are really cagey about spoilers.

it's really good but being a subversion of jrpgs you wont necessarily get a lot out of it if you're not familiar with the genre

JRPG is Japanese roll playing game right? It's not about school girl underwear is it?

like most game genres, female JRPG characters often fight in a combination of underwear and corsets, and heroes are perpetually 15-17 years old

undertale is mostly playing off 8bit/16bit era ones so before we got to that point

if you're familiar with earthbound the tone is pretty similar

I forgot a key point about Undertale when I unreservedly recommended it to my mom: it is actually a top-down schmup

yes on your 2nd playthrough. after you beat the game normally it challenges you to do that

any of you other doofuses donate $20 to Nintendo because you didn't think about the difference between the year of online service and the year of family online service

i'll just begrudgingly pay my $20 but waiting until the next time i feel like playing something online which could be anytime between now and December

I don't really have any online play interest on switch yet but I'm sorta tempted to subscribe for the NES games & then I can teach my son about Bo Jackson in Tecmo Bowl

none of the NES games are big enough selling points to me, just a minor bonus. I've played the good ones plenty already and don't really have nostalgia for that generation of games. i just want to play fighting games online sometimes and insure my stardew valley save file

when they finally get to SNES games that will make it all feel more worthwhile

kinda happy that the NES games are just a bunch of roms in an emulator, means they can add them quicker than their old way of building a custom emulator for each game. Not many that I'm interested in playing so far but Adventures Of Lolo is coming soon, love that series.
I've fallen down the Monster Hunter hole again, Switch version is like my platonic ideal of the "old style" of MH.

I have a 7 year old and Splatoon 2 so it was basically mandatory that I cough it up on day 1, hence the fuckup and paying 36% more than I should have

i immediately bought this because i have never finished mario 3 and i can’t think of a more appealing box to play mario 3 on. that said i wish the emulation was less barebones: i want scanlines and bloom, it looks way too clean.

i thought there was a scanline filter i dont have it yet so i dont know how but i saw people talking about it
