confession time despite being the resident jrpg buff i have not played any of those particular FF games before, even 7

I have not played a single mainline final fantasy! 12 interests me most, I wanna do that much-derided programmable autobattle system

the gambit system is the best battle system in all FF games that are not FF Tactics games

have played all the mainline ones except 10-2
7 is a fascinating mess
looking forward to 9 as I last played that about 15 years ago
10 is v linear but has my fav turn based FF battle system, some really cool puzzle-y boss battles iirc
12 has the best world and cast, gambits are built 4 code nerd linx

the Yoshi game looked way better than the last time we saw it, i like the presentation a lot more than woolly world. the way you see the artifice of the world from behind when flipping the stages in reverse is good stuff

“Yoshi’s Crafted World” is a miserable title. Why not “Crafty”?

Looking forward to new Luigi's Mansion and one kid is looking forward to Animal Crossing. No mention of Metroid, among other titles, and the online stuff seems predictably half-assed. Curious what else is coming in 2019.

Metroid. early money is on Metroid Prime 4 being a The Game Awards trailer drop.

The online thing is whatever. It’s dumb that they want to tax continued use of their network but if they’d just done so from day 1 with no frills, the NES game library rolling out now would seem like a perk instead of a sop to make people forget they’ve been going online for free for 18 months.

20 bucks a year is pretty reasonable.

nintendo's always sucked at online but at least it's cheap relative to the other consoles. i'll pay my 20 bucks to play the occasional smash or splatoon and not think about it too hard

is the $20 fee required in order to buy/download games online (like ps4's online service)? i'll be really annoyed if that's the case. i own zero physical copies of ps4/switch games, and i really enjoy the option of browsing online and downloading.

you don't have to pay for PS+ to use the PS store, only to play games online

it's generally worth it for both a) the free games every month, which there'll be good ones every so often and b) the extra discounts you get for being a Plus member

Nintendo's service is fairly equivalent to PS+ except the free games are NES games instead of modern games

at 1/3rd of the price i'm ok with that. and i hate adding even more subscriptions to my CC bill

yeah switch has way more dipshits on board than the past 2 generations of Nintendo systems thanks to it launching with an acclaimed open world game and now they're all learning the difference between Nintendo and other pubs in real time

Is Undertale worth it? I know next to nothing about it except people are really cagey about spoilers.

it's really good but being a subversion of jrpgs you wont necessarily get a lot out of it if you're not familiar with the genre

JRPG is Japanese roll playing game right? It's not about school girl underwear is it?

like most game genres, female JRPG characters often fight in a combination of underwear and corsets, and heroes are perpetually 15-17 years old

undertale is mostly playing off 8bit/16bit era ones so before we got to that point

if you're familiar with earthbound the tone is pretty similar

I forgot a key point about Undertale when I unreservedly recommended it to my mom: it is actually a top-down schmup

is it possibly to beat the entire game passively?

yes on your 2nd playthrough. after you beat the game normally it challenges you to do that
