I doubt I'm getting Spidey (webslinging "feels good man" doesn't have much appeal to me).
I'm not sure about the pure narrative/walking simulator part, but maybe I just haven't found the right one? I'm all for twee magical realism though.

The combat is pretty fun. It's basically just batman but it's a good batman game.
― reggae mike love (polyphonic), Tuesday, 11 September 2018 19:30 (seven years ago)
pretty much. still, there's a real love and attention to geeky detail that puts it over the top IMO
― Nhex, Tuesday, 11 September 2018 19:36 (seven years ago)
TLOU Remastered is $10 in the PS store right now. I'm almost tempted to get it just to have it on PS4.
― Nag Reddit (Leee), Tuesday, 25 September 2018 18:41 (seven years ago)
it's a classic. i got the PS4 disc version on sale for the same reason
― Nhex, Tuesday, 25 September 2018 18:58 (seven years ago)
probably a good thing to replay around the time the sequel comes out, though I don't remember how long a full playthrough is. 15-20 hours?
Spider-Man reminded me how much I love the arkham games, and i remembered that I'd never played the Season Pass content from Arkham Knight, so I've spent the last week doing the combat challenges and DLC missions. In fairness to WB they did give a lot for that pass, even if a lot of it's small DLC missions, alt-costumes or tons of tank/racing/predator challenges I'm not gonna touch
― Nhex, Tuesday, 25 September 2018 19:00 (seven years ago)
Hollow Knight out today, I'm excited.

I tried to sell two games to Gamestop, and they offered $6 (PFFFFT). Is ebay/Amazon the better bet nowadays?
― Deontology Sanders (Leee), Monday, 8 October 2018 21:04 (seven years ago)
(Uncharted 4 and Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection FWIW. And that's $6 total.)
― Deontology Sanders (Leee), Monday, 8 October 2018 21:05 (seven years ago)
ugh.GameStop has always been terrible, tbf. i'd go with eBay or craigslist
― Nhex, Monday, 8 October 2018 21:06 (seven years ago)
tbf i think you can find each for about that much individually or a little bit more new
― Mordy, Monday, 8 October 2018 21:06 (seven years ago)
yeah old non Nintendo games sell for like 10-20 bucks new these days which puts a pretty low ceiling on trade ins
the way to game on the cheap now is just to be a year behind, not to resell everything
― ciderpress, Tuesday, 9 October 2018 04:51 (seven years ago)
reselling's for suckas anyway. you gotta hoard it all, forever, like a troll
― Nhex, Tuesday, 9 October 2018 05:02 (seven years ago)
But I don't even want to think about Uncharted anymore! (I still have Lost Legacy in my download queue.)
― Deontology Sanders (Leee), Tuesday, 9 October 2018 17:18 (seven years ago)
Give them to goodwill or something. You got your money’s worth.
― EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 9 October 2018 17:23 (seven years ago)
you could attach tiny leather straps to them and make a nice pair of little cymbals

I guess God of War for $25 is a no-brainer, right? What else? Dragonball FighterZ is a great game which I picked up at release.
― Nhex, Tuesday, 6 November 2018 19:15 (seven years ago)
Getting God of War and, if it goes on sale, Spider-man, assuming that my family, as usual, hasn't picked up on any of my gifting hints.
― Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 6 November 2018 20:25 (seven years ago)
yeah i'll probably pick up god of war and fallout 4
maybe an extra controller
― F# A# (∞), Tuesday, 6 November 2018 21:32 (seven years ago)
tetris effect is game of the year
― diamonddave85 (diamonddave85), Friday, 9 November 2018 23:20 (seven years ago)
definitely the game that most makes me sad i dont have one
― ciderpress, Friday, 9 November 2018 23:26 (seven years ago)
first game that's made me wish I had VR
― ( X '____' )/ (zappi), Friday, 9 November 2018 23:36 (seven years ago)
definitely considering VR just for this game. still dope without it tho
― diamonddave85 (diamonddave85), Friday, 9 November 2018 23:52 (seven years ago)
I plotzed over a few hours into Horizon Zero Dawn in the other thread, but getting a decent way through the game, there are a LOT of rough patches (just starting with the facial animations and the uneven game mechanics, the ) -- like, how is this one of the PS4's best selling games ever?
And yet, the main story line has grabbed me! (Which I know goes against the general ILG ethos, but IMAMAVERICK.)
― Captain Hardchord (Leee), Sunday, 11 November 2018 00:03 (seven years ago)
This was cool. Taking a classic Tetris player and plugging him into VR for the first time.

xp i don't think horizon is one of the best selling ps4 games? maybe if you only count first party games
― ciderpress, Sunday, 11 November 2018 05:56 (seven years ago)
It’s a question that’s actually probably not best suited to Wikipedia: this chart looks more like I’d expect (which is to say, depressing)

― Andrew Farrell, Sunday, 11 November 2018 08:30 (seven years ago)
Huh I'm not sure where I got the best selling thing from!
But anyway, some of the world building is so moving and breathtakingly epic.
― Captain Hardchord (Leee), Sunday, 11 November 2018 09:25 (seven years ago)
Wow, EU is out-buying NA, and not just for FIFA titles. What's up with that?
― Nhex, Sunday, 11 November 2018 17:56 (seven years ago)
NA is more split between ps4 and xbox, EU is full on sony territory
― ciderpress, Sunday, 11 November 2018 17:58 (seven years ago)
Ah, that makes sense
― Nhex, Sunday, 11 November 2018 17:59 (seven years ago)
Yep UK is still relatively balanced but there are plenty of EU regions where the combined market share of Microsoft and Nintendo is still sub 10%.
― JimD, Sunday, 11 November 2018 18:02 (seven years ago)
anyone gonna pick up that new tetris?
― reggae mike love (polyphonic), Sunday, 11 November 2018 19:40 (seven years ago)
Yeah I played a bit last night. Mizughuchi would 100% be my favourite developer if only his taste in music was a bit less cringey.
But yeah it's already my favourite Tetris ever. And I've only played in 2d so far, haven't got round to plugging the pace in yet.
― JimD, Sunday, 11 November 2018 21:32 (seven years ago)
Er pace? psvr.
― JimD, Sunday, 11 November 2018 23:14 (seven years ago)
damn thanks for reminding me it's out
― vote no on ilxit (Will M.), Monday, 12 November 2018 18:06 (seven years ago)
Looks cool, but also looks like something I'd prefer on the Switch. Can't imagine playing Tetris on my TV.
― Josh in Chicago, Monday, 12 November 2018 22:01 (seven years ago)
Nier Automata is $20 online for Best Buy's Black Friday, so I'll be getting that despite my demo experience. I assume the sale price will only be in effect around BF time?
― I Got Stopped By a Lady Cop on my Automobileee (Leee), Tuesday, 13 November 2018 20:27 (seven years ago)
Oh whoops I checked the Reddit thread and it said it starts on 11/22.
― I Got Stopped By a Lady Cop on my Automobileee (Leee), Tuesday, 13 November 2018 20:33 (seven years ago)
i thought the demo (at least the one i played) was awful. it wasn't fun, and it didn't really capture what the real game (which is fun and addicting) is actually like to play.
― Karl Malone, Tuesday, 13 November 2018 20:34 (seven years ago)
just finished playing nu God of War, it's absolutely fantastic, go buy!
― Neil S, Tuesday, 13 November 2018 20:38 (seven years ago)
Ah good 2 kno!
― I Got Stopped By a Lady Cop on my Automobileee (Leee), Wednesday, 14 November 2018 02:18 (seven years ago)
in case you do get the full game, let me save you some potential heartache: just turn down the difficulty all to way to easy at the beginning. the beginning of the game is identical to the demo, but the boss is kinda difficult (i thought, at least) and if you die, you have to go all the way back to the beginning (about 25 minutes back). i died a few times, like an idiot, and also played the demo a couple times, so i going absolutely insane after playing the first 25 minutes of the game 5 times before ever getting to see anything else.
― Karl Malone, Wednesday, 14 November 2018 02:28 (seven years ago)
oh yeah for some reason theres no save point or checkpoint in the intro sequence. i think i managed it first try without knowing that but no shame in turning it down and then back up once you get to the 'real' part of the game where you have latitude to actually practice the combat
― ciderpress, Wednesday, 14 November 2018 02:35 (seven years ago)
i whined about it in the nier thread, but what's really frustrating about is that the rest of the demo is suuuuuper easy, like there's no way you can possibly die. and then all of a sudden a 400-foot tall machine is murdering you
― Karl Malone, Wednesday, 14 November 2018 02:41 (seven years ago)
karl otm, put it on easy until after the first boss fight.
to emphasise: the whole game has no auto-save, saving is done from the pause menu or in save terminals sprinkled throughout the game world but in the prologue neither of those are available yet, so any death and it's back to the very beginning. really, just play it on easy until that's done with
― chihuahuau, Wednesday, 14 November 2018 04:03 (seven years ago)
Thanks guys, I'll try to remember that when I actually own the game and start in on it.
Switching topics, I think there aren't many posters still wondering about the Slim vs Pro difference, but this seems like a nice summary:
For one thing, despite the much-vaunted 4K support, it’s been more of a compromise than a revelation. As exhaustively shown by all sorts of technical breakdowns, these images are often not native, or true 4K; that would take more computing power than the Pro can handle. Instead, they use upscaling to massage a lower-resolution image into 4K, in concert with advanced rendering techniques. The drumbeat of games that harness the console’s pseudo-4K capabilities has remained steady, especially among system showpieces like Horizon Zero Dawn, but the impact on performance remains undetectable to many laypeople. And when it comes to frame rate, the increased resolution can sometimes come at a cost to performance, so it really depends on your preferences as a player. If you’re willing to sacrifice the console’s 4K capabilities, however, the “performance modes” of God of War and Monster Hunter: World can balance some of the frame rate spikes and troughs that might otherwise take you out of the game, resulting in a decidedly smoother experience.
