HK is a wonderful game. on Switch it plays like a dream.

gonna tennis the heck out of some tennis tonight
― valorous wokelord (silby), Friday, 22 June 2018 16:19 (seven years ago)
yeah I gave in on tennis. my primary goal is to win a tournament with every character
― ciderpress, Friday, 22 June 2018 17:29 (seven years ago)
haven't started yet though
wish I'd bought hollow knight instead of golf story : /
golf story is fine but the story mode is quite thin and repetitive. the core golfing is solid tho

this is cool !https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/fangamer/flip-grip
― ||||||||, Friday, 22 June 2018 18:44 (seven years ago)
worth buying for ikaruga alone
― ||||||||, Friday, 22 June 2018 18:45 (seven years ago)
I was a golf story skeptic, but it won me over. the core golfing is fun. the story is thin but often hilarious. most of all, I think the idea is wonderful.

Mario Tennis Aces is reportedly launching with some inexplicable jank (can't customize match length or directly select what court to play on) but at least it's jank that one might reasonably expect to be patched.
― valorous wokelord (silby), Friday, 22 June 2018 20:51 (seven years ago)
I felt the opposite about golf story, I enjoyed playing through the story mode but the course design was too gimmicky to want to play outside of that
― ciderpress, Friday, 22 June 2018 21:17 (seven years ago)
Mario tennis seems pretty laser focused on the pvp 1v1 competitive play, that's done very well and everything outside of it is underbaked. yet another reason to call it a fighting game
― ciderpress, Friday, 22 June 2018 21:20 (seven years ago)
I suspect fixed match length is a byproduct of balancing the KO mechanic but it should be an option in the pure tennis modes
― ciderpress, Friday, 22 June 2018 21:22 (seven years ago)
i'm so bad at this game but have determined that simple mode online is the purest and best way to play.
― ciderpress, Saturday, 23 June 2018 03:51 (seven years ago)
Nah man the meter is where it’s at.
― valorous wokelord (silby), Saturday, 23 June 2018 03:52 (seven years ago)
We’ll see if I ever win even a second round match in a tournament tho.
― valorous wokelord (silby), Saturday, 23 June 2018 03:53 (seven years ago)
cool just noticed a Captain Toad demo available in US

Where’s that one loop of Mario bouncing up and down with pleasure for eternity
― Karl Malone, Tuesday, 26 June 2018 19:08 (seven years ago)
I played Lumines for a while and I feel like I’ve been in a fight
― devops mom (silby), Wednesday, 27 June 2018 06:24 (seven years ago)
is there no practice mode or lobby that i can like figure out fortnite's mechanics?
― diamonddave85 (diamonddave85), Thursday, June 14, 2018 11:14 AM (one week ago)
it looks like they just added a practice mode ("playground" mode)

― Karl Malone, Wednesday, 27 June 2018 16:21 (seven years ago)
fuck the lumines song with the red and white circles, that one shuts my brain off for some reason. I die on it almost every run
― ciderpress, Friday, 29 June 2018 21:35 (seven years ago)
or at least get far enough behind that the next one with the really slow bpm kills me
― ciderpress, Friday, 29 June 2018 21:55 (seven years ago)
really wish the joycons wouldn't crap out 5m from the console
― karl wallogina (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 29 June 2018 22:11 (seven years ago)
yep, they don't work well
― scopin' VARs (Sufjan Grafton), Saturday, 30 June 2018 05:12 (seven years ago)
Man, Fungal Wastes in Hollow Knight. I think three times now I've died and had my ghost spawn somewhere I couldn't reach, making me lose all my geo. Plus, still no map, so I have no choice but to just sort of blindly fall forward. Oh well.
― Josh in Chicago, Saturday, 30 June 2018 12:31 (seven years ago)
I’m really looking forward to playing Hollow Knight! It’s definitely next up for me, but for now I’m still knee-deep in Zelda and loving it.
― Karl Malone, Saturday, 30 June 2018 13:58 (seven years ago)
Was kind of on the cusp of frustration with Hollow Knight then basically worked for or stumbled upon all sorts of cool shit at once.
― Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 3 July 2018 17:17 (seven years ago)
where are you up to? i just got it a day or two ago. i beat the soul master last night and i'm in the crystal peaks atm. sadly wiped trying to get back to this mini(?)boss sitting on a bench and lost like 2k :( :( :(
― Mordy, Tuesday, 3 July 2018 18:28 (seven years ago)
it's such a nonlinear game I'm not even sure I know where I'm up to! but I do know I am not sure where I am supposed to go next. I don't think I ever explored much of the fog area, and I just started exploring the crystal area. I have the dash, I've got the bounce off the walls thing, I wish I knew the name of the bosses I have defeated.
― Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 3 July 2018 20:49 (seven years ago)
I have yet to make it to or even be able to find the city of tears. I think it might be down this giant Elevator Shaft thing that I can't get into?
― Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 3 July 2018 20:51 (seven years ago)
i went before i went to the crystal area so you should def be able to go there. i went immediately there after going to the mantis village where you've been. iirc it was kinda to the east of there?
― Mordy, Tuesday, 3 July 2018 20:58 (seven years ago)
I thought east of there was Fungus Amungus or wherever. fungal swamps?
― Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 3 July 2018 21:33 (seven years ago)
Fungal.Wastes.
Twice or maybe 3 times now I have checked out areas I had no reason to go and found there were new characters there, or things have changed. Once I went to go visit the grubs and they showered me with money and a soul Shard. Another time I went to that healing pool and there are just some giant bugs chilling there having a conversation.
― Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 3 July 2018 21:34 (seven years ago)
OK, I had to look it up to see what I missed, since there were a couple of spots on the map where I clearly hadn't explored but couldn't get to, and I guess there was a switch I dismissed as optional in Mantis Village that I have to go back and pull. The other thing I can't figure out (but haven't resorted to looking up yet) is how to get the map in Fog Canyon. I know where the map seller is, but there's this black volcano plume blocking access. I wonder if one of my charms would help?
― Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 4 July 2018 12:04 (seven years ago)
ugh, these wall dash spike and thorn obstacles are giving me Celeste flashbacks.
― Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 4 July 2018 15:25 (seven years ago)
i got one
― gbx, Wednesday, 4 July 2018 15:41 (seven years ago)
oooooooh yeaaaaaaah
― Karl Malone, Wednesday, 4 July 2018 15:43 (seven years ago)
which game are you starting off with? i'm still knee-deep in zelda, three divine beasts and 50 or so shrines down
― Karl Malone, Wednesday, 4 July 2018 15:44 (seven years ago)
good move doc
― devops mom (silby), Wednesday, 4 July 2018 15:55 (seven years ago)
I have six weeks off so I went with Zelda obv
― gbx, Wednesday, 4 July 2018 16:47 (seven years ago)
you still won't finish it
― ciderpress, Wednesday, 4 July 2018 16:48 (seven years ago)
yessss
― Karl Malone, Wednesday, 4 July 2018 16:49 (seven years ago)
is it really as open as it seems? like I just wander around and see what happens?
― gbx, Wednesday, 4 July 2018 16:50 (seven years ago)
Yes.
― devops mom (silby), Wednesday, 4 July 2018 16:51 (seven years ago)
Once you leave the starting area you can do whatever you want. You can do whatever you want in the starting area too but you have to complete the quest line you’re presented with to go anywhere else so you might as well follow instructions.
― devops mom (silby), Wednesday, 4 July 2018 16:52 (seven years ago)
yeah it's like a couple hours of starting area to get all your tools and then a few more hours of it suggesting that you go to a couple specific places to pick up some story threads but you can ignore it if you want. even if you follow all the shit it suggests, it turns you completely loose by like 5 hours in.
― ciderpress, Wednesday, 4 July 2018 17:02 (seven years ago)
dang
― gbx, Wednesday, 4 July 2018 17:05 (seven years ago)
Zelda is so open world it puts others to shame. i remember Skyrim having hundreds of quests but them all being exactly the same. there is so much more custom content hidden throughout BOTW's world by comparison.
― Hazy Maze Cave (Adam Bruneau), Wednesday, 4 July 2018 19:06 (seven years ago)
I’ve been playing a lot of Lumines Remastered and Mario Tennis Aces. Pocket Rumble is coming out tomorrow finally. Will it be the no-motions accessible 2D fighter of my dreams? Maybe! And next week is Captain Toad and Octopath, the latter of which should hopefully be enough crunch to last me a while. (Since I’m not a JRPG crushing machine like ciderpress.)Smash won’t be out in time for family vacation over Thanksgiving but Super Mario Party will…
