Just started Hollow Knight, it kicks ass. Definitely seems like the same sort of thing as Steamworld Dig 2.

Should also say I played a quick round of fortnite, but I literally had no idea what I was doing.

I tried fortnite on the XBox, but it's too hard. I think it works better with mouse/keyboard.

it seemed okay honestly, I just literally had no idea how to play it, like what button does what, or what I'm supposed to do with everything I kept finding. I asked a whole bunch of kids in the back seat during a carpool this afternoon and they set me straight.

trying to decide whether i want to play the new octopath demo that has every character's first chapter or whether that's just going to make me stir-crazy for the full game

Get Hollow Knight y'all, trust me. It is similar to Steamworld Dig 2 (which I also love), but has at least 3x more hours of play in it, maybe more like 5x. Also lots of Dark Souls-like "lore" if you go in for that sort of thing. And just secrets upon secrets upon secrets.

I’m faintly bummed by the lack of an out-there new announcement for a game due this year. I don’t really see tentpole Nintendo releases dated for August/September/October still and with Smash slipping to December you’d think they’d want a fresh multiplayer game in September to help sell paid online, rather than just starting to charge people to play what they were already playing.

On the other hand, I don’t think I’ll run out of stuff to do this year between Octopath, Tennis, Hyrule Warriors, Captain Toad, finishing Rabbids, playing my Master Mode file on Zelda…and if I really want, Rabbids and Xenoblade DLC…

played my first match in Fortnight. had no idea what was going on but still had a blast. the game has a really nice colorful art design, i can see why it's so huge. fwiw it runs pretty well on Switch.

Yeah, my daughter had a ton of fun watching me play, which was somewhat limited until I learned how to run (!). Or what direction to run. Or who was on my team. Or why I need to hit things with an axe. Or how to build. Or why to build. Or how to heal. Or what everything does. Several matches in and I even finally made it to a point where I was actually shooting at people.

They're showing off a "challenge battle" mode for Xenoblade Chronicles 2 rn. The post-launch support for this game has been pretty incredible for an offline single-player game; I don't think I'll experience any of it though because I'm not sure I need to spend any more time with that game.

the dlc story campaign looks like an entire new game. I wasn't gonna bother with the dlc but now I'm tempted

still hoping for some more physical package compilations to come out, like XC2 with all DLC or Rabbids with all DLC on disc

I want to play the Smash

I wonder if Nintendo had been hoping to have something else ready for E3, which is why they went so long on Smash and its more quotidian features, like a redesigned Wii Fit trainer face or whatever. Because apparently the stock got hammered today, with Smash the only big title before the end of the year - and all the way at the end of the year, no less - and no clear showoff-y sort of thing for the company's pay online venture. And Reggie did a sort of quiet damage control, promising ports faster in the near future. But I dunno.

but yeah yoshi and fire emblem getting delayed mean we have a sparse first party schedule. shouldn't really matter in the long run and there's plenty of 3rd party games on the way

I think I have been playing 50 vs 50 in Fortnite, and I think I survived my first match, but it was wholly unsatisfying. Literally like I just waited long enough, and that doesn't take into account somehow almost dying by falling off a rock and somebody rushing over, healing me, then building a protective wall. Like all that all they needed was just another body to survive so that the team would win. Which I think is accurate? Anyway, all I want to know is how to disguise myself as a bush and I think I will be happy. Not sure what all this stuff about dancing is about, no idea how to do that, and I'll be fucked if I'm going to pay a penny for this janky free game. In the meantime, I guess until they ad gyro controls to the switch I'm pretty much useless on offense, so will be stuck learning how to build things and hide.

heh yeah i still haven't won a match. it's decent fun but i have only ever played MP with k+m and truly suck at this. yesterday i ran it docked for the first time and it was looking a little rough. that dynamic resolution.

looks way better in handheld mode imo. which is cool. to me it's just a little freebie, and pretty perfect for bus rides or whatever.

Nope. You just get 8-10 seconds of fucking around in the weird pseudo lobby before they fly you in on the bus.

I might get splatoon in the sale. fortnite has made me want to play a shooter w decent mechanics and gameplay and splatoon looks solid

Yeah, it's cool, but nowhere near as cool as Hollow Knight right now, which is everything I hoped it would be.

Splatoon 2 has a single player campaign yes. it's not super meaty like the expansion one looks to be but it's there.

im def going to check out Hollow Knight. if it's as cool as it looks then $15 is a steal.

Hollow Knight is like a cross between Steamworld 2 Dig and ... Dark Souls (from what I know of it). And the price is absolutely right. Unlike, say, Little Nightmares, which also looks cool, but not for $30. Or Don't Starve for $20, which seems a bit high for something that's still of indeterminate stability on the Switch. Isn't there a sale coming up?

yes games are tied to account though save data is tied to the hardware unless you have the online service
