I don’t mind revisiting Kanto or the different wild Pokémon experience but opposing trainers with one level 3 Metapod or whatever are just…Oh wait fuck Onix is huge.xp yeah it’s the Pokémon Go capture system. 2019 will get more traditional Pokémon games.

Just started Hollow Knight, it kicks ass. Definitely seems like the same sort of thing as Steamworld Dig 2.
― Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 12 June 2018 19:00 (eight years ago)
Should also say I played a quick round of fortnite, but I literally had no idea what I was doing.
― Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 12 June 2018 19:01 (eight years ago)
I tried fortnite on the XBox, but it's too hard. I think it works better with mouse/keyboard.
― DJI, Tuesday, 12 June 2018 19:54 (eight years ago)
it seemed okay honestly, I just literally had no idea how to play it, like what button does what, or what I'm supposed to do with everything I kept finding. I asked a whole bunch of kids in the back seat during a carpool this afternoon and they set me straight.
― Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 12 June 2018 20:48 (eight years ago)
trying to decide whether i want to play the new octopath demo that has every character's first chapter or whether that's just going to make me stir-crazy for the full game
― ciderpress, Tuesday, 12 June 2018 20:59 (eight years ago)
splatoon 2 expansion out tomorrow
― ciderpress, Tuesday, 12 June 2018 21:06 (eight years ago)
Get Hollow Knight y'all, trust me. It is similar to Steamworld Dig 2 (which I also love), but has at least 3x more hours of play in it, maybe more like 5x. Also lots of Dark Souls-like "lore" if you go in for that sort of thing. And just secrets upon secrets upon secrets.
― Dan I., Tuesday, 12 June 2018 21:11 (eight years ago)
I’m faintly bummed by the lack of an out-there new announcement for a game due this year. I don’t really see tentpole Nintendo releases dated for August/September/October still and with Smash slipping to December you’d think they’d want a fresh multiplayer game in September to help sell paid online, rather than just starting to charge people to play what they were already playing. On the other hand, I don’t think I’ll run out of stuff to do this year between Octopath, Tennis, Hyrule Warriors, Captain Toad, finishing Rabbids, playing my Master Mode file on Zelda…and if I really want, Rabbids and Xenoblade DLC…
― valorous wokelord (silby), Tuesday, 12 June 2018 23:44 (eight years ago)
Oh I guess Super Mario Party is October
― valorous wokelord (silby), Wednesday, 13 June 2018 00:11 (eight years ago)
played my first match in Fortnight. had no idea what was going on but still had a blast. the game has a really nice colorful art design, i can see why it's so huge. fwiw it runs pretty well on Switch.
― Hazy Maze Cave (Adam Bruneau), Wednesday, 13 June 2018 01:04 (eight years ago)
Yeah, my daughter had a ton of fun watching me play, which was somewhat limited until I learned how to run (!). Or what direction to run. Or who was on my team. Or why I need to hit things with an axe. Or how to build. Or why to build. Or how to heal. Or what everything does. Several matches in and I even finally made it to a point where I was actually shooting at people.
― Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 13 June 2018 02:13 (eight years ago)
They're showing off a "challenge battle" mode for Xenoblade Chronicles 2 rn. The post-launch support for this game has been pretty incredible for an offline single-player game; I don't think I'll experience any of it though because I'm not sure I need to spend any more time with that game.
― valorous wokelord (silby), Wednesday, 13 June 2018 16:58 (eight years ago)
the dlc story campaign looks like an entire new game. I wasn't gonna bother with the dlc but now I'm tempted
― ciderpress, Wednesday, 13 June 2018 17:24 (eight years ago)
still hoping for some more physical package compilations to come out, like XC2 with all DLC or Rabbids with all DLC on disc
― Nhex, Wednesday, 13 June 2018 17:25 (eight years ago)
I want to play the Smash
― valorous wokelord (silby), Wednesday, 13 June 2018 17:59 (eight years ago)
so excited for smashee
― nxd, Wednesday, 13 June 2018 18:01 (eight years ago)
have no interest in Smash or Pokemon so this E3 has been a bit of a bust for me :/oh well just downloaded Hollow Knight, it's so pretty. plus Octo tonight!
― ( X '____' )/ (zappi), Wednesday, 13 June 2018 19:12 (eight years ago)
don't think fortnite is for me. don't get on with the building aspect. I'm a stone cold killer don't want to be faffing around with bricks and mortar

Going to try sexy brutale at 50% off

building was the reason i stopped playing fortnite.

E3 sale incoming tomorrow. hoping for a decent amount off splatoon
― ||||||||, Wednesday, 13 June 2018 19:45 (eight years ago)
xpost let me know what you think of sexy brutale, everything I read says it plays like shit on a switch.
― Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 13 June 2018 19:50 (eight years ago)
I wonder if Nintendo had been hoping to have something else ready for E3, which is why they went so long on Smash and its more quotidian features, like a redesigned Wii Fit trainer face or whatever. Because apparently the stock got hammered today, with Smash the only big title before the end of the year - and all the way at the end of the year, no less - and no clear showoff-y sort of thing for the company's pay online venture. And Reggie did a sort of quiet damage control, promising ports faster in the near future. But I dunno.

smash isn't even their biggest title before the end of the year
― ciderpress, Wednesday, 13 June 2018 22:56 (eight years ago)
but yeah yoshi and fire emblem getting delayed mean we have a sparse first party schedule. shouldn't really matter in the long run and there's plenty of 3rd party games on the way
― ciderpress, Wednesday, 13 June 2018 22:57 (eight years ago)
also lol
while other publishers made sure to emphasize ultraviolence in their E3 game footage (e.g. executions, curb-stomping, neck-stabbing), Nintendo/Marvelous rushed to clarify that the buildings and mechs you destroy in Daemon X Machina absolutely do not have people inside them pic.twitter.com/XfjRe9o1oR— Tiny Cartridge (@tinycartridge) June 13, 2018

I think I have been playing 50 vs 50 in Fortnite, and I think I survived my first match, but it was wholly unsatisfying. Literally like I just waited long enough, and that doesn't take into account somehow almost dying by falling off a rock and somebody rushing over, healing me, then building a protective wall. Like all that all they needed was just another body to survive so that the team would win. Which I think is accurate? Anyway, all I want to know is how to disguise myself as a bush and I think I will be happy. Not sure what all this stuff about dancing is about, no idea how to do that, and I'll be fucked if I'm going to pay a penny for this janky free game. In the meantime, I guess until they ad gyro controls to the switch I'm pretty much useless on offense, so will be stuck learning how to build things and hide.
― Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 14 June 2018 14:44 (eight years ago)
heh yeah i still haven't won a match. it's decent fun but i have only ever played MP with k+m and truly suck at this. yesterday i ran it docked for the first time and it was looking a little rough. that dynamic resolution.
looks way better in handheld mode imo. which is cool. to me it's just a little freebie, and pretty perfect for bus rides or whatever.
Josh have you gotten your Curse of the Moon code yet? that game is a lot of fun and really scratches the Megaman/Castlevania itch.
― Hazy Maze Cave (Adam Bruneau), Thursday, 14 June 2018 14:54 (eight years ago)
I concur that Curse of the Moon rules, like an awesome mod of Castlevania III
― Nhex, Thursday, 14 June 2018 15:08 (eight years ago)
is there no practice mode or lobby that i can like figure out fortnite's mechanics?
― diamonddave85 (diamonddave85), Thursday, 14 June 2018 15:14 (eight years ago)
Maybe the original paid version had it...
― Nhex, Thursday, 14 June 2018 15:15 (eight years ago)
Nope. You just get 8-10 seconds of fucking around in the weird pseudo lobby before they fly you in on the bus.
― obviously DLC (Karl Malone), Thursday, 14 June 2018 15:25 (eight years ago)
I might get splatoon in the sale. fortnite has made me want to play a shooter w decent mechanics and gameplay and splatoon looks solid
― ||||||||, Thursday, 14 June 2018 15:55 (eight years ago)
does the standard game have a single player ?
― ||||||||, Thursday, 14 June 2018 15:56 (eight years ago)
Yeah, it's cool, but nowhere near as cool as Hollow Knight right now, which is everything I hoped it would be.
― Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 14 June 2018 16:18 (eight years ago)
Splatoon 2 has a single player campaign yes. it's not super meaty like the expansion one looks to be but it's there.
― ciderpress, Thursday, 14 June 2018 16:45 (eight years ago)
im def going to check out Hollow Knight. if it's as cool as it looks then $15 is a steal.
― Hazy Maze Cave (Adam Bruneau), Thursday, 14 June 2018 16:50 (eight years ago)
Hollow Knight is like a cross between Steamworld 2 Dig and ... Dark Souls (from what I know of it). And the price is absolutely right. Unlike, say, Little Nightmares, which also looks cool, but not for $30. Or Don't Starve for $20, which seems a bit high for something that's still of indeterminate stability on the Switch. Isn't there a sale coming up?
― Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 14 June 2018 16:53 (eight years ago)
sale now on, 25-50% off Zelda, Splatoon, FE Warriors, Overcooked, Pacman CE etc https://e3.nintendo.com/sale/
― ( X '____' )/ (zappi), Thursday, 14 June 2018 17:04 (eight years ago)
also arcade Donkey Kong available for the first time ever digitally, the rights for using the original code were a legal mess so this is a big surprise (with a big price tag to go along with it ofc)
― ( X '____' )/ (zappi), Thursday, 14 June 2018 17:08 (eight years ago)
excited to try golf story on sale, too
― Tapes 'n Tapes of Osho (Sufjan Grafton), Thursday, 14 June 2018 17:52 (eight years ago)
i still haven't made any big digital purchases on Switch. are game purchases finally tied to the user account, so if i pick up a new Switch down the road i can transfer my purchases without hassle?
― Nhex, Thursday, 14 June 2018 19:08 (eight years ago)
yes games are tied to account though save data is tied to the hardware unless you have the online service
― ciderpress, Thursday, 14 June 2018 19:18 (eight years ago)
cool cool. i'll probably get Golf Story, maybe the Rabbids bundle...
― Nhex, Thursday, 14 June 2018 19:23 (eight years ago)
had some coins so picked up golf story. kinda slow paced but fun enough !
