Back cover of this copy of Dark Souls on eBay states “PREPAREZ-VOUS A MOURIR” hehehe

Far Cry 3 is awesome (if you haven't already played it)! Civilization Revolution is a total time suck if you're into RTS games.

Almost forgot! Splinter Cell: Blacklist was so great, and kind of overlooked due to it coming out in the dying days of the console (2013); it's my favorite in the series, and much better than Conviction.

I should mention that I didn't even play SC:B until a year or so ago. It holds up.
― Rod Steel (musicfanatic), Wednesday, 20 December 2017 12:53 (six years ago) link
I slept on the Splinter Cell games way too long because, y'know, Tom Clancy. But even the early ones (which I only played for the first time a year or two ago) are good stuff.

Just ordered Splinter Cell for $6 on eBay
― calstars, Wednesday, 20 December 2017 15:39 (six years ago) link
oh yeah I've never played any of the SC games but i love stealth.
remembered my bro had sent me an amazon gift card for $50 canadian a while back so just bought Burnout Paradise and GTA:V second-hand. hope they arrive soon because I'm off work all next week

I'm only keeping my 360 around in case I want to play Dark Souls again. But if they come out with a PS4 remaster, it is gone.

Also bought dark souls. Preparing to die

I just couldn't get into Burnout Paradise. I loved the two previous incarnations to absolute death but never found my Paradise groove. Could you still play Crash "races"? I could never seem to find them.

Re : Dark Souls, from what I've read, it seems very long/hardcore RPG.Is it ? Since I'm not AT ALL a RPG person, I'm not sure I would appreciate it...
― AlXTC from Paris, Thursday, 21 December 2017 11:04 (six years ago) link
it's definitely hardcore but RPG doesn't really do it justice. Dungeon crawler is the best description I guess
― Thomas NAGL (Neil S), Thursday, 21 December 2017 11:05 (six years ago) link
don't think you need a paid live sub to buy the online games though
yeah i tried getting into Paradise recently but it's just boring

i tend to describe the single player dark souls experience as a puzzle game with rpg trappings

i watched Limmy livestream Dark Souls 3 once and it just looked really boring to me and awful. I understand everyone loves it though and that this is the wrong opinion
― khat person (jim in vancouver), Thursday, 21 December 2017 17:42 (six years ago) link
It's an action rpg with the emphasis on action, I would say. The mechanics make it way more fun and interesting to me than trad rpgs. Main RPG elements have to do with modifying your character and weapon stats as you go. The big improvement over RPGs is not having to listen to anyone talk ever, if you don't want to.
― change display name (Jordan), Thursday, 21 December 2017 17:43 (six years ago) link
Dark Souls and DS3 have become my favorite games ever though, and I still play DS3 every week ('invading' other players' worlds, which is sort of the meta-game), so I'm biased. Always happy to talk about them though (although not irl, because that would be embarrassing).

I tried DS once before on PC and the controls rendered it unplayable. Will try again on Xbox

did anyone say portal 2 yet
or orange box for that matter
― reggae mike love (polyphonic), Thursday, 21 December 2017 19:55 (six years ago) link
Thanks for the Dark Souls descriptions !Well, I think it's just not for me...As for old 360 games I still play (beside sports) I have started the AC:Black Sails lately. Play it very occasionally but it's nice.I prefer the ones where you can just enjoy the sightseeing in old cities, though !

^ Portal 2 is one I never got to. I'm usually into puzzlers besides the two Playdead ones, but I should make an exception for this one.
― Rod Steel (musicfanatic), Friday, 22 December 2017 17:05 (six years ago) link
usually not into puzzlers...
To me Portal seems like it’s suited more for PC. For Xbox I want explosions and speed
― calstars, Friday, 22 December 2017 18:26 (six years ago) link
Portal 2 has a great co-op multiplayer that wouldn't really work as well on PC imo but the single player would be good on PC.
― reggae mike love (polyphonic), Friday, 22 December 2017 18:48 (six years ago) link
Portal 2 (and Portal, if you can get your hands on the Orange Box) is one of the greatest games ever created by humans.

paradise isn't all that great but it's pretty good for what I'm looking for, i.e. I'm only rarely able to sit down for a proper session of a video game whereas paradise is super arcadey and has the open world element so it's fun just to pick up drive around a bit, do a race or two, then turn the console off.
i accidentally purchased GTAIV instead of V online ;_; replaying 4 and, much like GTA3 vs. Vice City and San Andreas, it just pales in comparison to GTAV
― khat person (jim in vancouver), Wednesday, 3 January 2018 22:07 (six years ago) link
GTAIV is actual total shite. completed it, spent 24 hours playing it apparently. garbage.
― khat person (jim in vancouver), Thursday, 1 February 2018 18:25 (six years ago) link
yeah I hated that game

i had played it when it came out and was somewhat disappointed in it, but i think the excitement i had regarding its release as well as what was, at the time, the significant improvement in graphics over earlier iterations gave me some goodwill towards it that made me more forgiving. GTAV is just so much better.

IV is so joyless. Although the later DLC missions were great, esp Gay Tony.
― "Taste's very strange!" (stevie), Thursday, 1 February 2018 19:04 (six years ago) link
TBRR, I don't think I've ever really enjoyed playing the various GTAs as anything other than mayhem simulators with no set objectives.
― Senior Soft-Serve Tech at the Froyo Arroyo (Old Lunch), Thursday, 1 February 2018 19:22 (six years ago) link
i wasn't hugely fond of the lost and the damned DLC purely because it meant riding on those damn harley davidson bikes that handled corners so poorly

― calstars, Thursday, 1 February 2018 21:08 (six years ago) link
Ha, yeah, I never liked GTA IV either. I hated the way the cars handled, and it turns out driving is quite a big part of the game. Reckon I've only ever made it about 4 or 5 hours into playing it (and I've tried several times). Never tried the DLC though.

yeah, Gay Tony was very fun (the original and the bikers one not so much).

Hey all, I asked this on another thread but maybe this one gets more action and traction - what was the best XBOX 360 Mario Kart-a-like?
