would play

Mordy, Monday, 13 November 2017 18:35 (eight years ago)

oh, i meant to mention - the game's economy only very slowly ramps back up to 100%. it takes several game years. and during that time there is a greater than 50% chance that another terrible disaster will strike. the disasters are occurring more frequently, and it's all because of the crops that you're choosing to grow. the only way to fix everything is to quit the game and uninstall it. the patch adds a man who wakes you up every morning by telling you to quit the game and uninstall it and save the village.

Karl Malone, Monday, 13 November 2017 18:39 (eight years ago)

I think the PC version can be modded, KM

.oO (silby), Monday, 13 November 2017 18:43 (eight years ago)

Pretty certain that's Alundra.

Andrew Farrell, Monday, 13 November 2017 18:47 (eight years ago)

not sure "uninstall the village" is a great message for this allegory

it's an intervention patch for bizarro. in the future, every patch is optimized for individual consumers

Karl Malone, Monday, 13 November 2017 19:12 (eight years ago)

Didn't know JojaMart had any locations in Central America

El Tomboto, Monday, 13 November 2017 19:45 (eight years ago)

would def play karl’s stardew valley: apocalypse dlc

wow. that was truly the minecraft of sex. (bizarro gazzara), Tuesday, 14 November 2017 08:42 (eight years ago)

weirdest announcement for me is the port of skyrim - like there's a sizeable community of hardcore rpg fans who have nonetheless been holding out for nearly six years just for the opportunity to play it on a nintendo machine

I think Skyrim just costs far too much money on Switch. That said, I’ll almost certainly crumble and buy it, despite already having it on PC. What is this voodoo you do, Nintendo?

CraigG, Saturday, 18 November 2017 16:53 (eight years ago)

this is my first opportunity to own Skyrim, but I dunno.

you are juror number 144 and we will excuse you (Sufjan Grafton), Saturday, 18 November 2017 18:15 (eight years ago)

skyrim is a decent game but i wouldnt pay full price for it in 2017

ciderpress, Saturday, 18 November 2017 18:17 (eight years ago)

i have still never played that game, i shamefully admit

Nhex, Saturday, 18 November 2017 19:04 (eight years ago)

i bought it yesterday, for $39, on PS4. i don't know why, but it's still as addictive as all get out

Karl Malone, Saturday, 18 November 2017 19:07 (eight years ago)

has it been available on a handheld before?

the ghost of tom, choad (thomp), Sunday, 19 November 2017 04:04 (eight years ago)

i think there are probably millions of people who no longer have time to sit in front of a television or monitor and play something like skyrim, though they might have half an hour to play a quirky party game with family members in front of a tv, and who have significant dead commuting time in which to get into something like this given they can press one button to shut it down and again to wake it up when they get on or off the train -- i'd say probably about at least 1.5 million of them in japan probably

the ghost of tom, choad (thomp), Sunday, 19 November 2017 04:07 (eight years ago)

personally i'm holding out for a dragon quest

the ghost of tom, choad (thomp), Sunday, 19 November 2017 04:08 (eight years ago)

yes, when the increasingly-less-evitable DQ installment comes out for Switch I will be a very happy 40-something

I'm stalling on Skyrim because I've hardly dipped a toe into Zelda yet (shame face)

El Tomboto, Sunday, 19 November 2017 04:46 (eight years ago)

How’s the farm Tombot

.oO (silby), Sunday, 19 November 2017 05:08 (eight years ago)

after overcoming the immediate, palpable sensation of sweaty, red-faced guilt over your question, I went and crushed the first couple of weeks of Summer; my session last night ended on a sour note, as my sluggish, exhausted avatar made his way to the saloon just before closing time and bought a beer with the intent of getting just enough energy to stumble home. I then failed to notice the old drunk lady was STANDING RIGHT NEXT TO ME when I hit the "drink beer" button, meaning it became the "give gift" button, so she drank the beer instead of me, and the saloon closed up shop before I could buy another one, and ended up fainting on the road to my house.

El Tomboto, Monday, 20 November 2017 17:00 (eight years ago)

Think I finally clocked something like 200+ hours on Skyrim. Being able to play it on a handheld would have been perfect as you could do a quick half hour of grinding whilst you're half-watching Walking Dead or something

groovypanda, Friday, 24 November 2017 08:53 (eight years ago)

Was also semi-ready to splash out an a Switch today if there was a good Black Friday deal but doesn't seem to be any decent ones as I guess the console is still too new

groovypanda, Friday, 24 November 2017 08:54 (eight years ago)

yeah, it's doing too well frankly

Preordered!

We're getting a Switch for the holidays. Ordered a few games from Costco, who seems to have the best prices. Mario Kart, Odyssey, and Zelda. That should tide us over awhile. Otherwise we can rent from the library.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 29 November 2017 12:40 (eight years ago)

I'm weirdly hyped for XC2 despite not having played the previous ones or any console jrpgs in general for years

ciderpress, Wednesday, 29 November 2017 15:05 (eight years ago)

xp I have the same 3 games and can't really see needing anything else for another year or so. though I can't play as much as I'd like to. best part of switch is actually looking forward to plane travel now.

crocus bulbotuber (Sufjan Grafton), Wednesday, 29 November 2017 15:44 (eight years ago)

will probably get Stardew Valley bc I've danced around it for awhile and it has my favorite feature, a dedicated ilx thread

crocus bulbotuber (Sufjan Grafton), Wednesday, 29 November 2017 15:47 (eight years ago)

really looking forward to XC2 but people are saying to screenshot the tutorials because there is no other way to revisit them and the battle system is ludicrously complicated *gulp*

tbf XB1 battle system was hard to grasp initially and I still don’t understand how use Melia

v good game, will be perfect for the switch. highly recommended.

Roberto Spiralli, Friday, 1 December 2017 15:05 (eight years ago)

i haven't played it yet but from reading about it it looks a lot like a graphical version of Varicella - does that sound right at all?

Mordy, Friday, 1 December 2017 15:07 (eight years ago)

had to google that to make sure it wasn't some weird chicken pox zing so i guess i am the wrong person to ask!

Roberto Spiralli, Friday, 1 December 2017 15:12 (eight years ago)

I guess this means I will have to play Zelda first before I get XBC2

i shelved zelda for mario, doing the same for steamworld dig now, think i'll continue pushing it back for xenoblade and will finally get into it in a real way this summer

Chocolate-covered gummy bears? Not ruling those lil' guys out. (ulysses), Friday, 1 December 2017 16:11 (eight years ago)

I'm playing XC2 rather than finishing Zelda so I guess I get excommunicated

ciderpress, Friday, 1 December 2017 16:12 (eight years ago)

Zelda is great but also not the type of game that begs completion. it's just a place to spend your time in.

I felt the same way about Skyrim too iirc

ciderpress, Friday, 1 December 2017 16:14 (eight years ago)

Zelda is nice but im going to really take your time w this one and play it over a year just picking it up every now and then and exploring the huge world. ive defeated one Divine Beast and am at the second.

i just started a new game of Mario cos its cool to see the unique cutscenes also now that i've beaten the game i can use all the cool moves i have learned. there is a triple jump i just figured out. you do a long jump, throw your hat, do another long jump in midair onto the hat, then bounce off the hat and make a third jump. its kind of difficult for me to get the button pressings right but it's a pretty cool trick you can use everywhere. this move works especially well over large height/width gaps like jumping buildings.

AdamVania (Adam Bruneau), Friday, 1 December 2017 17:23 (eight years ago)

I also didnt learn that until after "beating the game"

crocus bulbotuber (Sufjan Grafton), Friday, 1 December 2017 17:51 (eight years ago)

The speed runners string those jumps together endlessly to skip huge portions.

the kotaku review of XC2 is so whiny it makes it seem like a must buy
