It is clear you should be allowed to buy things from the store if you have enough money. overcoming completely nonintuitive control mappings should not be the most challenging aspect of any game.

I've been enjoying stardew valley by listening to the soundtrack at work. feels like it must be at least 25% of the appeal.

Are the Xenoblade plots anything like the mind blowing all-genre stone soup of Xenogears

I don't know any other games in this family but I do know one of the trailers for this one described something like 9 factions that play into the plot if that's any indication

theres not really anything in common between the xeno games iirc other than being made by the same studio and being fantasy/scifi JRPGs. its like final fantasy where each game is standalone

Finished Golf Story today. Felt like it became a bit of a slog near the end, unfortunately (not in terms of difficulty - think I was just getting bored of it by then. Felt a bit long, ultimately). Think I might have run out of games now, so need to see if I feel like picking anything up or just waiting til the end of the week when Mario drops.

just about finished up playing Rayman Legends; it is Extremely Fun although I am not about to ruin myself picking up all the collectables and such. it's one of those rare games where the daily/weekly challenges and secondary modes actually did keep me coming back to it. loading times are somewhat of a butt but they're nowhere near as bad as Stardew.

I also picked up Steamworld Dig 2 on a whim and it's a LOT better than the first game so far - the world is much bigger, there's way more stuff to do & more guidance about how to do it, etc. apparently it's pretty short (~12 hours); I'm hoping that I can polish it off before my Switch becomes a dedicated Mario machine for the next few months.

I also picked up a pair of Joycon grip sleeves; they definitely make it easier to hold the Switch in portable mode for extended periods of time (and I can leave them on whenever I put the Switch in its case), but at the price of making the buttons feel almost flush. not the best outcome, but for seven bucks I'll deal with it until something better comes along.

yeah dig 2 is by far my favorite indie game I've played on switch so far. I'm almost at the end and haven't cracked 10 hours yet so yeah it's pretty short if you're not going hunting for all the secrets, but what's there is tuned to perfection. Every time you get a new objective on your map and it's 3 times as deep as you've been so far is a great moment, and the mobility upgrades are incredibly satisfying compared to most other metroidvanias

if there's any other great platforming/mobility focused metroidvania games besides steamworld dig 2 and Ori please let me know since I missed them and that's some of my favorite shit

you're going to love Hollow Knight from what I've seen

that's an instabuy as well

thats closer to the metroid/castlevania spot on the combat-platforming spectrum though from what i've seen. will still play it but i think ori ruined those games for me to a degree since i realized that all i really want out of them is the platforming/exploring parts

Hollow Knight is a day 1 purchase for me

i can't imagine not anticipating a new mario tbh, especially in the wake of nintendo's success of reinventing zelda for the switch

i see eurogamer rated it 'essential' but i'm trying to stay away from specifics - knowing that you get to see mario's nipples in this one is already too much of a spoiler for me
