that was my exp. with Splatoon 1 and the demo splatfest was the same, way too much motion-controlled swerving. Not sure if turning the sensitivity way down would help but I'm not gonna take a $60 flyer to find out.

oh noes, that sucks! fwiw i've turned the motion control off and play it as a standard third-person shooter, but yeah i dunno if i'd be willing to take the risk if the first one made me ill

i'm having trouble getting used to the motion controls but seems like if you master them it's a significant aim advantage over twin-stick so i'm not gonna give up on them

delurking for the first time in a while to say, for someone dead awful fast-twitch gaming, Splatoon 2 is just incredibly fun. Would never have expected. It actually has me caring enough to try to get better at it! I want to play those B-rank league matches.

still so bad at aiming but i can occasionally go on a rampage with the bucket

paint roller / dualies are my favourites so far

one of the joys of turf war mode is that even if you're terrible at aiming (as i often am) you can still play a vital role by shying away from combat and concentrating on reclaiming turf - one of my favourite things to do is sneakily make it to the other side of the map and start painting around their main respawn point. you can really rack up points doing that too

also i finally got to play splatoon multiplayer with a buddy in the same room - me on the tv and him handheld - and it was a total blast

I was planning on getting Splatoon so I could play it with my son but I've just read that there's no split screen multiplayer. What the hell?

actually i have no issue with spawn camping in splatoon - if 4 people have played so badly as to let you do that, they deserve it. its all about the territory and stopping your enemies ability to move.

tbf i'm usually only there for long enough to paint over their colour, then i'm outta there before i get shot

i will confess to enjoying perhaps too much the perk which makes your squid form invisible when it's submerged in ink - popping up seemingly out of nowhere and hosing down enemies is a lot of fun

invisible squid plus roller is a popular combo in my games so far, people like to pop out and one shot you

One of the many reasons I'm loving the Octobrush right now is getting to use autobombs to counter people sharking like that

yeah, it's awesome that for every tactic there's an effective counterattack

yeah i'm still like level 8 so i don't have some of the good weapon sets yet. i just got the giant minigun thing which i have not yet seen anyone attempt to use.

also how do i do the dodge roll with the duallies that i see other people using? if it was explained somewhere, i missed it.

press 'b' to do the dualie roll i think

it pleases me that not even nintendo can fix the Sniper Problem in team shooters

i've played with motion controls for like 6 hours of turf war now and they still havent clicked for me, i guess its just different enough from other shooter controls that i dont have a gamer's lifetime of brain pathways built up for it. i feel like if it ever clicks i'm going to suddenly be 10x better at the game though.

i got mine via gamestop preorder, had to get a bundle with zelda and crap

online preorder i should say. this was about a month ago, i just happened to look at the site on a day when they had put more up. i think there's tracker pages out there for the major retailers

i just checked and the zelda bundles are available on gamestop now. i just bought one.

btw i've never been happier to have been wrong than i was about the commercial prospects of the switch itt pre-launch, it's great to see nintendo doing so well (not v well at keeping up with demand, admittedly) - nearly five million shifted since launch!

i knew it was gonna be a success the moment i saw one in person, it's hard to understand just how small it is & how good it looks despite that, until you see it in action

yes its an absolutely pleasure to use and i can see why there's such a huge desire for ports of eveeeerything

i saw someone online idly wishing for a switch dark souls trilogy earlier and my heart skipped a beat, i'd double-dip on all three of those in a second

i hope they use white and red ink for the splatfest

is it just me or is splatfest really underlining how wicked fucking incompetent people are at turf war

yeah the people who are good at shooting just fight over the center and don't help maintain the sides and the people who are bad at shooting tunnel on inking and die repeatedly to close range weapons. i am the latter i guess.

you need a good balance of the 2 to do well

i really love securing 75% of a map and losing because dudes called "ubergamer03" (or, well, fourteen-year-olds) keep suicidally going for kills over and over
