rockstar open world games, for when you want quantity (not quality) of life

qualx, Friday, 21 July 2017 04:52 (eight years ago)

This thread is great at reminding me a) I got hardly anywhere in this game, b) it's still sitting there beside my Xbox, and c) I really don't want to play it again

(crosstalk)(garbled)(crosstalk/unintelligible) (stevie), Friday, 21 July 2017 08:31 (eight years ago)

i started playing it again briefly when it got backwards-compatibility with the xbone and, while it does run definitely more smoothly on the newer hardware, i couldn't bring myself to chug through the tutorial parts all over again

Since my daughter arrived three years ago, on the few stray evenings home alone I could use playing video games I find I'm so rusty on the controls and where I was up to with the games that next thing I know I've fallen asleep on the sofa and achieved NOTHING

(crosstalk)(garbled)(crosstalk/unintelligible) (stevie), Friday, 21 July 2017 10:14 (eight years ago)

finally made it to mexico and I think I'm just... done. after the neverending killing bandits on a slow moving raft sequence (L2. R2. L2. R2. ad infinitum.) I might actually just hate this game

qualx, Friday, 28 July 2017 22:52 (eight years ago)

but I'm thankful I spent a noteworthy percentage of my short life watching the same animal skinning animation over and over again

qualx, Friday, 28 July 2017 22:54 (eight years ago)

i remember mexico being pretty fun! but yeah you have to kinda luuuuuv shooting galleries

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Friday, 28 July 2017 22:55 (eight years ago)

every time I get to a cutscene I'm reminded that this game is intended for 14 year olds who just discovered tarantino

qualx, Friday, 28 July 2017 22:58 (eight years ago)

at least in gta you can drive cars fast fuck

qualx, Friday, 28 July 2017 22:59 (eight years ago)

This game's more fun if you turn off the auto-aim, I found

Screamin' Jay Gould (The Yellow Kid), Friday, 28 July 2017 23:26 (eight years ago)

inally made it to mexico and I think I'm just... done.

That's where I quit, too, when I played it. Don't know why. It wasn't a rage quit, I just got kinda bored

Karl Malone, Saturday, 29 July 2017 04:41 (eight years ago)

Mexico was the best part! The story got darker, but it's the landscapes that I loved the most. But those are my favorite settings in North America, big rocky deserts of the southwest.

droit au butt (Euler), Saturday, 29 July 2017 04:50 (eight years ago)

Yeah, I remember looking forward to getting there because of the landscape, I just got bored by the gameplay. It's the open world 30-35 hour wall that someone else mentioned recently on another thread

Karl Malone, Saturday, 29 July 2017 05:28 (eight years ago)

I think it was by then that my character was getting better skills---playing with my son we finished all of the skill progressions, shooting, hunting for animals and for treasure, etc. while in Mexico.

I have more of a 5 hour problem with open world games. We recently started Fallout 3 (yeah, I know we're behind) and after getting to Megaton and doing a quest or two I got exhausted, because our character still sucks, we're constantly on the verge of death, I don't know what I should do next, messing around the world isn't great because we're constantly on the verge of death, you get it. Once we're more buff then these games get fun. I like progression in gaming and the slow start in a massive world tires me out.

droit au butt (Euler), Saturday, 29 July 2017 05:53 (eight years ago)

this. i think the slowness of travel was what really turned me off the game.

Glower, Disruption & Pies (kingfish), Thursday, 1 February 2018 22:41 (eight years ago)

i say it's released just in time for the holiday season

Karl Malone, Thursday, 1 February 2018 22:45 (eight years ago)

This is already a pretty big delay, original date was "Q1/Q2".

JimD, Thursday, 1 February 2018 23:22 (eight years ago)

hopefully delayed until I get a job and eventually plump for a new console or new graphics card

HA, I got a job and did the latter. Ready for this, if it exists.

In space, pizza sends out for YOU (Ste), Wednesday, 4 July 2018 19:24 (seven years ago)

yes it exists

yes it’s gorgeous

yes it’s not as good as you’d expect but you’ll still pump upwards of 30 hours into it

Fox News' Chad Pergram contributed to this report (bizarro gazzara), Wednesday, 4 July 2018 19:27 (seven years ago)

Rockstar games are never as good as you’d hope

from lolkotaku's preview

The landscape of this version of 1899 America seems enormous and full of life. There are lumbering locomotives, squawking birds, and civilians buzzing about recent events. There’s horse poop, and there are flies. There’s a first-person mode that can be used for the entire game. There are new gameplay wrinkles, including a button dedicated to firing nonlethal warning shots. There’s a shopkeeper in the general store whose item list is a multi-page, illustrated catalogue. At a base camp, the game gave me a tip to remind me that if my character ate too much, he would get fat. Too little, and he’d get skinnier, and lose stamina.

hell yeah i'm gonna be a husky cowboy folks
