qualx, someone should pay you to liveblog your way through Rockstar games. I would like to see your instructions for the Vice City RC helicopter missions.
― Dippin' Sauce on my Nice New Slacks (Old Lunch), Wednesday, 19 July 2017 12:52 (eight years ago)
How to play RC helicopter mission1. Open window2. Throw console through window
― Dippin' Sauce on my Nice New Slacks (Old Lunch), Wednesday, 19 July 2017 12:53 (eight years ago)
full stop the part of vice city where you have to do an rc mission is precisely where I gave up on the storyline however many years ago
― qualx, Wednesday, 19 July 2017 18:04 (eight years ago)
lol @ qualx
I enjoyed RDR at the time (especially the zombie dlc iirc) but don't think I could do it now.

Zero's third mission ("New Model Army") was really fun. Almost made that brutal second mission worth it.
― reggae mike love (polyphonic), Wednesday, 19 July 2017 18:43 (eight years ago)
I just don't understand why this studio pours 7 billion dollars into these games and then makes sure the player spends at least 30% of them stuck in minigames that seem to be designed by teenagers who would otherwise spend their time pumping out flappy bird clones with malware
― qualx, Wednesday, 19 July 2017 19:13 (eight years ago)
I've been constantly playing GTA Online since I got it. Conversely, I've played GTA V maybe like three or four times.
― Mandal Envy (Old Lunch), Wednesday, 19 July 2017 19:17 (eight years ago)
I don't think I've even come close to finishing a Rockstar game. Maybe like 3/4 of the way through GTA 3 but that was it.
― Mandal Envy (Old Lunch), Wednesday, 19 July 2017 19:18 (eight years ago)
I think if you're stuck in the mini games on rdr there must be something wrong. Seem to remember 95% of the time was riding a horse and shooting ppl and animals. You know you can just grab a horse and leave wherever you are at any time right?
― Dan I., Thursday, 20 July 2017 12:22 (eight years ago)
I have finished many main stories in rockstar games but clearly never completed the games 100%.the minigames in RDR are annoying as well as some missions (mostly the races afaic) but there is something I like in the idea of the game... maybe more than in the actual game as it's very repetitive.that said I like... the poker parties !
― AlXTC from Paris, Thursday, 20 July 2017 12:37 (eight years ago)
Poker was the hardest mini-game by far for me.
1. Press random buttons2. Lose money3. How to play poker?
― change display name (Jordan), Thursday, 20 July 2017 14:04 (eight years ago)
ahah. but if you know how to play poker, it's a nice game in itself.you can spend a lot of time just playing that...although they could have added the possibility to take out your gun to make it more of a part of the main game !
― AlXTC from Paris, Thursday, 20 July 2017 14:10 (eight years ago)
Yeah hard to believe that they didn't add a 'flip table' button option
― change display name (Jordan), Thursday, 20 July 2017 14:37 (eight years ago)
I have played RDR a few months ago and went all Westworld on it by stopping in a little village and shooting everybody.it was a little frustrating because people kept respawning as if nothing happened.
― AlXTC from Paris, Thursday, 20 July 2017 14:49 (eight years ago)
idc what anyone says i'm buying the new one day of release
― Mordy, Thursday, 20 July 2017 15:02 (eight years ago)
No, don't. Don't do it.
― Mandal Envy (Old Lunch), Thursday, 20 July 2017 15:05 (eight years ago)
i stand with mordy
― he tasted like mouth (bizarro gazzara), Thursday, 20 July 2017 15:09 (eight years ago)
i will buy this videogame, play it obsessively for around 35 hours in total, then lose interest with about two-thirds of the main mission completed
― he tasted like mouth (bizarro gazzara), Thursday, 20 July 2017 15:10 (eight years ago)
I don't remember very well but I think I have finished RDR. the end was pretty meh...
― AlXTC from Paris, Thursday, 20 July 2017 15:12 (eight years ago)
Ah memories (from upthread):
"how are you supposed to subdue people (at least before getting a lasso)? i would try using my fists and either die or accidentally beat them to death anyway, or them shooting in the legs. a couple times it gave me the "mission complete" flag while they were still alive (but injured), and i would start walking away only to have them shoot me in the back.
i keep forgetting how to stop when riding horses, and last night i stole a horse to distract the deputies in the first seth mission, rode around the mountain, and then rode straight into seth, killing him. :/
after doing a bunch of missions last night i thought i'd treat myself to a stagecoach back to town. except, i tried to get in on the wrong side, which meant i accidentally coach-jacked the dude. cue mid-speed chase, giving myself up, jail time, etc. there should be an apology button.
-trying to return a stolen wagon, i crashed and apparently suffered some kind of spinal injury. wasn't dead, but could only lie on the ground motionless and move the camera. a coyote came and nibbled but then wandered away, i was just hoping something will kill so i didn't have to restart but no luck.
-ended up on a cliff above the town i wanted to get to, not sure how to get down with my horse. so i just dismounted and slid down, tried to call my horse but it didn't seem to be working. then i was running from coyotes across the field, saw a dot moving towards me on the map, spun around and shot my horse point blank. :("

i didn't finish it bc someone accidentally erased my save when i was 4/5ths of the way through. i've been told there's some twist at the end. it turns out the whole thing takes place in westworld?
― Mordy, Thursday, 20 July 2017 15:14 (eight years ago)
Turns out it was all a videogame
― Screamin' Jay Gould (The Yellow Kid), Thursday, 20 July 2017 15:24 (eight years ago)
at the end you realize you were in a video game all along.
― AlXTC from Paris, Thursday, 20 July 2017 15:25 (eight years ago)
ah you beat me to it !
at the end you find out it wsa all a videogame
― he tasted like mouth (bizarro gazzara), Thursday, 20 July 2017 15:25 (eight years ago)
iirc the end is at the hero's family farm, huh ? or was it the big shooting in the mountain camp ?err, it was a long time ago... I only remember THINKING it was meh...
― AlXTC from Paris, Thursday, 20 July 2017 15:27 (eight years ago)
At the end you discover that the videogame has been playing you.
― Mandal Envy (Old Lunch), Thursday, 20 July 2017 15:28 (eight years ago)
The ending does have a pretty neat twist actually, where
SPOILER
you get killed, and the game ends, and the credits roll. And then after the credits the game continues, 20 years later, with the main character being your son, and there's a mission to get revenge on your father's killer.
― Screamin' Jay Gould (The Yellow Kid), Thursday, 20 July 2017 15:30 (eight years ago)
really ? I have NO recollection of that !
― AlXTC from Paris, Thursday, 20 July 2017 15:35 (eight years ago)
It had like three fake endings.
― pplains, Thursday, 20 July 2017 16:30 (eight years ago)
i remember the ending, don't remember any of the mini game/side mission/basic controls frustration; i'm sure there was a bit but i 100%ed it, perhaps the only game i ever have, so it can't have been that bad.

― illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Friday, 21 July 2017 03:53 (eight years ago)
Same except i drift off around 40%
― Karl Malone, Friday, 21 July 2017 03:55 (eight years ago)
yeah that's how i play all open world games as well - 25-30 hours and then if the main quest hits a lull after that, it's all over
― ciderpress, Friday, 21 July 2017 03:58 (eight years ago)
The horse just never seems fast enough
― calstars, Friday, 21 July 2017 04:06 (eight years ago)
But I just bought a projector so I bet this will be better via a 10 foot screen

this pretty much sums up my experience so far
― qualx, Friday, 21 July 2017 04:41 (eight years ago)
-trying to do the wretched horsebreaking minigame but i got on the horse near a cactus and the camera had no idea where to go so it was just a closeup of my face and i had no idea which way to lean
-random encounter with prisoners running away, wanted to lasso them both but you can only carry one on your horse at a time (real fun!) so i dropped one off at the sheriff, had to get the other one but then the sheriff's marker disappeared and when i finally found him using my dumb eyes he just shot them anyway lol
-accidentally aimed a lasso at someone in town which caused multiple deaths but i didn't get in trouble
-wanted to lasso a bounty but i didn't hold on to the lasso long enough to tie him up, which led to him lying on the ground yelling things as if he was standing up, couldn't do anything but shoot him
-can't get past the last stage of five finger fillet and i have no idea why, i'm pressing the right buttons quickly but it always acts like i messed up, i've lost so much money trying to finish it
-there's no quicksaves, rockstar how much time do you think i have in my life for your shit
― qualx, Friday, 21 July 2017 04:49 (eight years ago)
none of this is even a drop in the bucket compared to "you have to sit through a 4 second animation every single time you want to loot a body or skin an animal" (i know there's a workaround with the horse but then you have to spend 3 seconds positioning it correctly and getting on/off)
― qualx, Friday, 21 July 2017 04:51 (eight years ago)
rockstar open world games, for when you want quantity (not quality) of life
― qualx, Friday, 21 July 2017 04:52 (eight years ago)
This thread is great at reminding me a) I got hardly anywhere in this game, b) it's still sitting there beside my Xbox, and c) I really don't want to play it again
― (crosstalk)(garbled)(crosstalk/unintelligible) (stevie), Friday, 21 July 2017 08:31 (eight years ago)
i started playing it again briefly when it got backwards-compatibility with the xbone and, while it does run definitely more smoothly on the newer hardware, i couldn't bring myself to chug through the tutorial parts all over again
― he tasted like mouth (bizarro gazzara), Friday, 21 July 2017 08:42 (eight years ago)
Since my daughter arrived three years ago, on the few stray evenings home alone I could use playing video games I find I'm so rusty on the controls and where I was up to with the games that next thing I know I've fallen asleep on the sofa and achieved NOTHING
― (crosstalk)(garbled)(crosstalk/unintelligible) (stevie), Friday, 21 July 2017 10:14 (eight years ago)
finally made it to mexico and I think I'm just... done. after the neverending killing bandits on a slow moving raft sequence (L2. R2. L2. R2. ad infinitum.) I might actually just hate this game
― qualx, Friday, 28 July 2017 22:52 (eight years ago)
but I'm thankful I spent a noteworthy percentage of my short life watching the same animal skinning animation over and over again
― qualx, Friday, 28 July 2017 22:54 (eight years ago)
i remember mexico being pretty fun! but yeah you have to kinda luuuuuv shooting galleries
― illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Friday, 28 July 2017 22:55 (eight years ago)
every time I get to a cutscene I'm reminded that this game is intended for 14 year olds who just discovered tarantino
― qualx, Friday, 28 July 2017 22:58 (eight years ago)
at least in gta you can drive cars fast fuck
― qualx, Friday, 28 July 2017 22:59 (eight years ago)
This game's more fun if you turn off the auto-aim, I found
