arms is a fuckin BLAST and it really keeps surprising me with its level of depth and cool design choices as i get deeper into it and unlock stuff

like ultimately it's very simple and RPSish as far as fighting game go...at first
and then you're making all these loadout decisions and it honestly feels like the customizable aspects of it are limitless - oh, and grand prix gets insanely hard
― the portentous pepper (govern yourself accordingly), Sunday, 18 June 2017 01:12 (nine years ago)
Arms is great. I should post my friend code at some point I guess
A fighting game where I don't have to do shit like a quarter circle forward or whatever is something I've wanted for a while bc I knew I would never be able to do a hadoken consistently
― softie (silby), Sunday, 18 June 2017 01:29 (nine years ago)
I beat Grand Prix level 3 with Ribbon girl today, I think every match but 1 took me multiple tries, maybe like 10 for the final round. Even the mini games are there to teach you something about how to fight, it feels like
― softie (silby), Sunday, 18 June 2017 01:30 (nine years ago)
co-sign. Great game! although i am terrible at reading opponents - seem to mainly concentrate on my dodge game.

How is Mario Kart single player?
― Sutcliffe Juugin' (Whiney G. Weingarten), Tuesday, 20 June 2017 13:17 (nine years ago)
it's what you would expect, with all drivers, 48 tracks and speeds (including mirror mode & new 200cc) unlocked. only thing you unlock is kart parts. time trials with downloadable ghosts, also battle mode but who plays that single player?
― ( X '____' )/ (zappi), Tuesday, 20 June 2017 13:42 (nine years ago)
finally got one of these
are there any games besides mario kart so far that can do 2-player multiplayer without owning a 2nd set of joycons?
― ciderpress, Friday, 30 June 2017 21:34 (nine years ago)
Almost all? Maybe all multi player games. Not heard of any that don't. Snipperclips, puyo puyo tetris, ARMS, FAST racing, Street Fighter, the Neo Geo games,
― abcfsk, Saturday, 1 July 2017 09:32 (nine years ago)
how do I get one and what accessories should I buy immediately
― El Tomboto, Saturday, 1 July 2017 13:44 (nine years ago)
screen protector and sd card are the accessories i bought immediately. will probably get a pro controller at some point too, the joycon grip thing is more comfortable than i expected but still a bit narrow for my giant hands
― ciderpress, Saturday, 1 July 2017 14:47 (nine years ago)
pro controller for sure - the wii u one was secretly the best controller of the last gen and this one is aces too
― bonamasso guitara (bizarro gazzara), Saturday, 1 July 2017 15:37 (nine years ago)
i dont even use the grip - joy cons are great and detached is the most relaxed way to use the system
― jamiesummerz, Monday, 3 July 2017 11:59 (nine years ago)
arms is actually good? i've been sufficiently devoid of things that i started on blaster master fn zero
― the ghost of tom, choad (thomp), Tuesday, 4 July 2017 09:07 (nine years ago)
ymmv. I really didn't like Arms when I tried it during the Global Test Punch, but people seem to love it, so I assume I'm just a joyless monster.
― CraigG, Tuesday, 4 July 2017 09:32 (nine years ago)
arms is good, craigg is a soulless monster

Arms is tons of fun. TONS.
― jamiesummerz, Tuesday, 4 July 2017 13:36 (nine years ago)
Yeah, that's what I figured. Just me, I guess.

Is the switch available in stores now or is there still a shortage? I wandered into a Best Buy yesterday for the first time in forever and it wasn't in stock. Amazon seems to be selling via third party with inflated prices. At least I think they're inflated. I thought the thing was $299 retail.
― Rod Steel (musicfanatic), Wednesday, 5 July 2017 17:40 (nine years ago)
it is 299 and amazon are horrible. still sold out basically everywhere unless you come in at the right moment.are the nes classics basically done? nintendo's supply chain is squeezing me out of this generation.
― Chocolate-covered gummy bears? Not ruling those lil' guys out. (ulysses), Wednesday, 5 July 2017 18:39 (nine years ago)
nes classic stopped production a while ago iirc
― qualx, Wednesday, 5 July 2017 19:03 (nine years ago)
sigh

I've had a Switch on order from Amazon for about three weeks, I've got a delivery date of July 13th. I wouldn't be too bothered but they sent me the Mario Kart I ordered at the same time straight away.
― nate woolls, Wednesday, 5 July 2017 19:14 (nine years ago)
they're a easier to find now than they were in april but you still have to be in the right place at the right time or preorder and wait a month
― ciderpress, Wednesday, 5 July 2017 19:50 (nine years ago)
I haven't owned a Nintendo system since N64. I'm ready to jump back in if they'd let me. I just hope the NES classic games and the soon-to-come-out SNES classic games will all be available to purchase digitally for the Switch at some point. I'm sure that's their long term goal. Actually I'm not sure, Nintendo is odd.
― Rod Steel (musicfanatic), Wednesday, 5 July 2017 21:49 (nine years ago)
Nintendo is odd but it wouldn't shock me at all to see them continue to treat their back catalog (increasingly desirable, as GameCube games are now feasible to emulate) like the Disney goddamn Vault
― softie (silby), Wednesday, 5 July 2017 22:21 (nine years ago)
there was gonna be some monthly subscription service for old games right?
guessing they don't like jumping the gun on gamecube and beyond releases bc they can make bank selling "HD" remasters at full price
― qualx, Wednesday, 5 July 2017 23:21 (nine years ago)
hell yes look at Square Enix - you'd have to assume they want to charge people close to what old PS1 FF games go for on the iTunes store
― El Tomboto, Wednesday, 5 July 2017 23:25 (nine years ago)
hoping someone just sells that raspberry pi kit premade
― Nhex, Thursday, 6 July 2017 08:26 (nine years ago)
I got tired of waiting for physical releases of Cave Story and Binding of Isaac over here, so ordered them from Amazon USA. Pretty glad this thing is region free, but can't believe it takes 2 weeks to ship a game from USA to Scotland :(
― CraigG, Thursday, 6 July 2017 09:47 (nine years ago)
Cave Story arrived, and I'm really enjoying it. Binding of Issac just arrived this morning, plus I see they've finally patched NBA Playgrounds so I might actually be able to make a basket, as the cool kids say. It's a good week to be on paternity leave!

just get a vanilla pi 3, it'll take you 30 minutes to install and configure retropie
― thomasintrouble, Wednesday, 12 July 2017 12:47 (eight years ago)
you're probably right
― Nhex, Thursday, 13 July 2017 16:34 (eight years ago)
I have a pi 3 with retropie installed. There's a fan-made skin to make the interface look like the NES Classic, with differentiating colors for the other systems you can load on. Also, you can scrape to get the box art, game description etc. Loading games on to it takes a few seconds when you've got it hooked up to your network.
I love having it. It's just as much fun to curate as it is to play the games on there.
Oh and you can get a little retro NES case for it as well.
― Evan, Thursday, 13 July 2017 17:11 (eight years ago)
is this a pretty good representation of how you'd go about doing that?https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2017/04/one-upping-the-nes-classic-edition-with-the-raspberry-pi-3-and-retropie/
― Chocolate-covered gummy bears? Not ruling those lil' guys out. (ulysses), Thursday, 13 July 2017 17:18 (eight years ago)
Yeah, that's a pretty decent write up of the main steps. If nothing goes wrong, you'll be all set. As that article says, though, using a Pi for a retro console is quite common, so when I hit any stumbling blocks I just googled them and found solutions easy enough. I've done a couple - newer Pi's are easier than older ones (thanks to built in wifi, Bluetooth, etc)
― CraigG, Thursday, 13 July 2017 21:45 (eight years ago)
cool thx!

My partner is away for two weeks and I'm tempted to buy a switch and play Zelda for a fortnight. She also really wants mario kart. I heard a few iffy things about the console. Is there any reason why I shouldn't?
― Chuck_Tatum, Friday, 14 July 2017 11:19 (eight years ago)
Er if I can find one obvs
― Chuck_Tatum, Friday, 14 July 2017 11:27 (eight years ago)
I am loving zelda after two days of play. The control scheme isnt very intuitive but its amazing fun nonetheless
― i believe that (s)he is sincere (forksclovetofu), Friday, 14 July 2017 14:25 (eight years ago)
the switch is rad, buy one xp

yeah buy it
― softie (silby), Friday, 14 July 2017 16:04 (eight years ago)
what iffy things have you heard? i think it's nintendo's best hardware to date. the only iffy thing i've seen is the dock can potentially scratch the screen if you don't get a screen protector, which you should do anyway
