Although this still sounds good, it's a worry that they're introducing things that have become really boring and homogeneous in games. SuperBunnyHop did a good video about this sort of stuff a few years ago.

I just sold my Switch.

those of you with zelda pls report back on whether the gameplay is more fun / less aimless sandboxy than it looks. my initial impression is that its a game that i can just watch ppl stream and not miss out on some deep participatory experience unlike the best zelda games of the past

suspect mario odyssey is the game that will actually make me break down and buy this thing, can't really get my mario64 acrobatics fix elsewhere

Played the first hour or so of Zelda. It feels like a 3D version of the first game except huuuuuuge. Nothing that has struck me as WRPG at all. Not a huge fan of the joycon thumbsticks or the v thin L & R buttons. Downloaded the Tetris PuyoPuyo demo from the JP shop, it downloaded in the background and played it on my EU account. Region free at last.

im starting to talk myself into getting one of these now but idk what the availability is gonna be like after this first wave. is it looking like wii where you have to camp out to get one for the entire first year?

Imported the japanese ps4 version of puyo-puyo tetris a while back and can confirm that it is extremely great

Some semi-spoilers depending on what you consider spoilers -

zelda is crazy, tons of fun, a top wiiu title for sure. the graphics seem a little grainy at times if that's something that bothers you, but the art style is pretty solid, and the vibe is reminiscent of shadow of the collosus imo, in the sense of isolation in a foreign world. the story is pretty compelling so far. the real star is the mechanics. you can climb basically anything, surf on your shield, and glide eventually. probably other stuff too. i really dig cooking, you need to do it for health but also for buffs some of which are required to advance in certain areas. right now everything is still expanding in all directions but at least as of a few hours in it is really great. there are also abilities that create interesting utility in certain situations and i think at some point robots might be a thing but i can't confirm yet

yeh i got a Shadow of Collosus vibe too, with the isolation and the grip meter. the little details are fun too - was climbing at night and came across a camp of baddies at the top. They were asleep around the fire, but I walked too loudly which woke them up. They got up and ran to the back of the camp - haha they are scared of me I thought, so I chased after them. Then I realised too late that they'd stored all their weapons at the back and had gone to retrieve them. They turned quickly with weapons raised and suddenly it was 4 on 1. I died.

damn this is sold out everywhere. i went online to almost buy this on a whim (i've heard Zelda is low-res but i use a projector) and it is sold out everywhere. i tried all the stores in my state and there is nothing in stock. then i went to amazon and found a console and Zelda for $350. by the time i got to the shipping page, it was gone, someone else had already bought it.

yeah anywhere you could possibly buy it or reserve it online is sold out. supposedly the big box stores like target and best buy that do in-store purchase only have some but there's no way to know for sure without making the trip.

lol Sufjan. Bloodstained looks like it will be cool. and i can't believe they are actually a Castlevania cartoon. i think it involves people from Adventure Time so that's pretty promising.

i wonder if any ILXors will experience the technical issues getting reported like the controllers losing sync etc. wouldn't surprise me if that was just the internet blowing up edge cases out of proportion as usual.

I watched a bit of a 1-2-Switch stream last night. It looks like you'd need to be drinking for it to be fun.

Just realised that the ghosts in Mario are a lot like most cows, they only come towards you when you turn your back on them.

Glancing at the Zelda thread, peering at the glimpses of the retro-2D Square RPG, and skimming a stupid clickbait Gamespot article about the system's exclusives has me bizarrely tempted to buy a new console and games for it for the first time since um... begging my parents for a Genesis. (Not counting picking up a PS in 2000 or abusing my roommate's XBox 360 or whatever.) I mean: Arms is an arena fighting game where up to two players play duke it out as combatants with extendable arms. Shut up and take my money!

it really sells itself, it's a wonderfully slick piece of hardware. seeing it in person was just a !!!! moment where i went from 'will probably get this' to 'need one immediately hellp'. it didn't fully register that this zelda game is on a HANDHELD until i saw it.

I'm going to be cynical AF and continue to spend my beer money as labeled until there's a day 60 patch and there's a Terraria port with non-local multiplayer. I think. I can't believe I'm saying any of that.

Terraria port is already confirmed for this year (dont know about co-op though). Minecraft too which should really expand the reach to a lot of people given Vitas are so hard to find.

Been playing local co-op bouts of King Of Fighters 98 and Metal Slug 3 in the office this week with the joycons - so much quick pick up and play fun. great little machine.

im still holding out for another good title before i go in on this. feeling burned by wiiu tbh and want to see further evidence that this isn't that

i would be all in on switch versions of xenoblade, splatoon, mario maker, the newest DK and Smash bros... presuming those are on the way plus nu-zelda/nu-mario is probably gonna sell me this system once it is available/money woes are properly put in order/hardware and software are in v2.1

splatoon 2 and xenoblade 2 are already announced for this year

and nu-mario is supposed to be the big holiday release obv
