A PS4 Thread: Because You Had to Play "Knack"

i got so pumped up reading reviews about it last week and raced onto the store to buy it, only to find out that it wasn't on sale until today. so i got impatient and bought the closest possible thing, the LOTR shadows of mordor game, which is really fun (and only $19). i still want to play horizon zero dawn but i'll probably wait until a pricedrop/DLC/game of the year edition, etc.

after my failed attempt at getting back into civ for mac i accidentally found a dweeb playing for honor and it looked so cool i am now thinking of buying a ps4 just to play it

is it worth it?

I'm interested but will wait until after I'm done with Nioh, which may be awhile. Never finished Dishonored 2 either.

I also downloaded A Night in the Woods to play with my gf, been anticipating that for awhile.

played the free beta a bit a couple weeks ago. they definitely need more classes than just three and the ones they have are pretty unbalanced. But it was ok overall

my wife bought me dishonored 2 for xmas and it's still in the plastic bc i wanted to finish/get bored of witcher 3 before i started it and that hasn't happened yet

i had nioh lined up as my next game but i think i am all about horizon zd instead now, i got bit by the hype p hard

I'm not excited about another huge map of Far Cry-type objectives, but the mechanics of dealing with the different dinobots looks pretty cool.

lure of dinobots is v strong, true

im just holding out til mass effect and persona 5 altho horizon iiiiissss tempting

nioh is fun, soulslike with kind of Diablo 3 loot system that seems to encourage farming to a degree though i am not quite close enough to endgame to say for sure. needs pvp but lots to like

i am playing through ds3's dlc now, the lure is still strong of "soulslikes"

has anyone played battlefield 1? is it worth the $30 it's currently on sale for on PSN?

I like it! And would say yes. Though I have been playing almost exclusively with a friend, can't say for sure if it's as fun if you're going solo.

apparently i can get it bundled with titanfall 2 for $50. that seems like a really good deal.

i guess my only question now is which one should i play first?

If you're playing multiplayer, probably BF1. TF2 multi is really good, but there's a bit of a learning curve that I still haven't seemed to overcome. Always getting my ass kicked in a mech. Single player you'd be better off with TF2 I guess. I'm not terribly stoked on it (too handhold-y) but I seem to be firmly in the minority there.

i like the TF2 campaign a lot. it's a v generically written game but the gameworld and the mechanics are plenty evocative on their own. i just finished the sequence in the manufacturing lab and i thought it was a pretty clever level.

Grrrr! I bought this for my bf only a couple months back and paid $80 for it grumble.

it's crazy how quickly things get discounted now. and i have such a games backlog that i rarely feel pressure to buy a game new.

I think the greatest hits thing includes the main MGS V and the prologue thing that was early released

the first part is just one large mission and sets up the background for the main game

Not quite true - there is one large story mission, which then unlocks several short missions on the same map, each of which is really fun, can be beaten in many difft ways, and takes place at difft times of day

correction -- I didn't spend enough time on the prologue and should return to it because I mainly did the main mission :)

It's "arcadey" in a way. I used to go back to the side missions a lot just to see how quickly I could beat them, or to see if I could go completely undetected etc

Ground Zeroes is super polished (moreso than TPP) and is crucial to the MGSV story and has probably the best base map in any MGS game. the side ops you can run are all a lot of fun and can be super challenging, i spent a good 50 hours (???) on this prologue.

that mission where you snipe two guys from afar -- let's see you sneak in and safely extract them!
that mission where you must blow up 3 anti-aircraft guns and a tank -- let's see you do that with no weapons!

Nier 2 is confoundingly great. it isn't one of Platinum's tighter games (it will probably feel janky AF to anyone who's played Bayonetta or Revengeance) and a bunch of saving/loading issues feel incredibly archaic, but I just got the main ending after ~35 hours of playtime and I loved pretty much every second. I really want to make Chrono Trigger comparisons - it's a collaboration between a bunch of genre titans, multiple endings are crucial, it explores a big complex topic through multiple viewpoints, etc. it was so much fun that I've barely had time to play The Show 17, although I think I'm gonna try to get through Night in the Woods before I vanish down that rabbit hole for another year. meanwhile I still need to find time to play P5 and Y0 and (apparently) HZD. this is a daunting volume of video gamery to be facing when the bombs could start falling any day now.

Probably gonna pick up some BF deals, most likely one or both Yakuzas from this year and maybe Tekken 7/MvC Infinite

Haven't played either but it seems like Nioh is somewhat like Dark Souls and Nier is more Bayonetta-ish? They're both supposed to be good.
