I only have 3 of the top 10 champed. But Cyclops will be next. I can champ my Cho too, he's at 250 but fully covered. After that, I have Prof X, Spider Woman, and Thing at 12/13 covers (and Electra at 13/13 but blah). With an near-term daily reward my War Machine will be at 12/13 covers too. I just need ISO!

droit au butt (Euler), Wednesday, 15 February 2017 10:59 (nine years ago)

I have 1 of the top 10 champed ;_; it's Jean tho ^_^

I have Thoress at 5/3/5 but not enough ISO to champ; I need to recycle some of my maxed 2*s before I really focus on saving ISO to champ her. My next closest in the top 10 are Quake (3/3/5), Cyke (5/1/5) and HB (5/4/2)

ornate orchestral arrangements (DJP), Wednesday, 15 February 2017 14:34 (nine years ago)

dr. strange (3*) is so good. i don't even have him fully covered yet and he's still dominating pve nodes.

Mordy, Wednesday, 15 February 2017 14:35 (nine years ago)

I just champed 3* Dr Strange and am basically hiding him behind OML and letting the goons kill themselves. It's kind of incredible.

ornate orchestral arrangements (DJP), Wednesday, 15 February 2017 14:38 (nine years ago)

I'll champ him tonight. I'm at 164. It took two days to go from level 40 to level 164! 3 star land is so calm...

droit au butt (Euler), Wednesday, 15 February 2017 15:17 (nine years ago)

i've gotten a lot of mileage out of dr strange / indestructible hulk / lazythor. dr strange just constantly destroys them and when one countdown does go thru i make sure hulk absorbs it so i end up finishing matches off a lot w/ a big call the storm.

Mordy, Wednesday, 15 February 2017 17:18 (nine years ago)

btw who do u guys like more between these 3*'s: punisher, daken, gamora, mystique? i've got covers for all 4 (most for daken in case that's a tiebreaker)

Mordy, Wednesday, 15 February 2017 17:20 (nine years ago)

Hmm.

In terms of how much I like them, I'd say:

Mystique
Punisher
Daken
Gamora

In terms of actual usefulness when played correctly, they're probably:

Daken
Mystique
Gamora
Punisher

I like 3Pun a lot but the game has outgrown his damage output and his most useful skill (green) blows up the board and often kills any strike/attack tiles he may already have out from previous uses of black/green. Also, the countdown from black will often get matched away before it can create any strike tiles. Red can be glorious against high HP enemies but it involves 3Pun surviving long enough to use it, which is not a guarantee.

Gamora is somewhat lackluster unless you can either get her tanking a lot of colors or have her relatively undamaged as the last character standing; at that point, she creates so many strike tiles that she turns into a monster but the problem is that getting to that point either means your other characters are dead or she is super beaten up from taking damage.

A lot of people don't use Mystique but her purple stun into her black nuke can generate a ludicrous amount of damage, especially when she's buffed. Also she can ruin the board for a lot of high damage enemies by overwriting red/green with black/purple.

Daken's true healing is fantastic and the free strike tiles he makes off of green matches will add up over time; I undervalue his blue and don't use it all that much, especially since I often use him with characters whose strike tiles I don't want taken away (R&G and OML, in particular) but it can be a good chunk of damage.

ornate orchestral arrangements (DJP), Wednesday, 15 February 2017 17:41 (nine years ago)

Generally agreed with that listing. Miss the days when 3* Pun was more viable

Nhex, Wednesday, 15 February 2017 18:15 (nine years ago)

In a practical sense, I agree with each of the #1s DJP lists; I remember the days when I ran Mystique, Daken, and Patch: Stock up on black and purple, use her purple to stun one character, Berserker Rage (and hopefully Mystique's purple tile crowds out one enemy strike), then bring the hammer down with her black -- 10K+ unboosted damage right there. (And maybe her blue can cascade some of the enemy strikes away too -- I never tried that though). This trio is obviously slow, and you'll be using a lot of health packs on Mystique, but if you're playing PVP or something and one enemy is just a tank of health, they're a good combo.

I never use Gamora anymore unless I have to. Same with Lil Frank; the one remaining good thing about him is that he gives Max Frank covers.

And DJP: you should use Daken's blue with OML! He'll just spam new tiles!

Dr. MC Selar (Leee), Wednesday, 15 February 2017 21:23 (nine years ago)

Yes, OML would spam new tiles... if I had a fucking red cover for him.

ornate orchestral arrangements (DJP), Wednesday, 15 February 2017 21:25 (nine years ago)

(I mean don't get me wrong, he is surprisingly useful esp in PvE at 4/2/0 but GODDAMMIT I WOULD MURDER FOR A RED OML COVER)

ornate orchestral arrangements (DJP), Wednesday, 15 February 2017 21:27 (nine years ago)

Oh man, sorry! At least take heart in the fact that he is usable at all (you might remember me whining about my 3/0/3 OML), and that as the number of legendary pulls approaches infinity, you will get a red!

Dr. MC Selar (Leee), Thursday, 16 February 2017 05:52 (nine years ago)

The Valentine's PvP has unveiled a surprisingly effective combo to me:

Mr. Fantastic/IW/XPool (all 3 are boosted)

Especially with his buffs, all of Mr. F's special tiles tend to survive for long periods of time, allowing you to wreak havoc with Imaginaut. Basically have IW make everyone go invisible, put out Imaginaut and match as many yellow/red/green as you can, mixing in more Invisibility casts along with Out of Bullets and IW's green nuke. Also throw out Countdown for What as much as you can so the AI can match it and hurt themselves while giving you extra green to fuel IW's nuke. Use IW's blue to speed up your damage or Mr. F's blue to slow down incoming damage, whichever one seems most appropriate.

I played this combo for about an hour last night, tearing through teams, and used 1 health pack on IW because her invisibility tile kept getting matched away and she got a little beaten up in one round. Most of the time, I was virtually untouched in each match and, if I was, I used XPool to tank so that I could use red to true heal him.

ornate orchestral arrangements (DJP), Thursday, 16 February 2017 14:25 (nine years ago)

I am now happy that I champed both IW and Mr F ^_^

ornate orchestral arrangements (DJP), Thursday, 16 February 2017 14:26 (nine years ago)

so as of the end of the dr strange event i have a following situation:

i have 1 roster spot (and 350hp so it'll be a bit of a grind to try and get the remaining i need to open another spot). i also have 1x Mordo cover (actually rostered so i could hit up his essential node but i'm not attached to keeping him in that spot), 1x totally awesome hulk due to expire in 9 days, and 1x IM40 cover that when i add it will produce a hulkbuster. the IM40 cover expires in 12 days. i'm thinking i should pick between Mordo and totally awesome Hulk for the current roster spot and then use the 24 days i have for IM40 + Hulkbuster expiration times to get another spot for him. thoughts? some of the other 1 cover 4*'s i have: jessica drew, x-23, nova, miles, luke cage (probably going to 2 covered soon bc of the gauntlet), jean grey, kingpin, iceman, and drax. i could recycle one of those if mordo + hulk are both worth rostering.

Mordy, Friday, 17 February 2017 05:15 (nine years ago)

Mordo looks lousy to me (I have two covers now). But Drax is worse, no?

droit au butt (Euler), Friday, 17 February 2017 10:13 (nine years ago)

Depending on how long your commute is and how reliable your connectivity is, I think getting 650 HP over 9 days isn't too bad of a grind.

If you're going to dump anyone, dump Drax; he is the least useful of all the characters you mentioned. I personally would give Mordo a chance as I think he's too new for people to have really figured out how best to play him and I'd be surprised if he was as bad as Drax.

ornate orchestral arrangements (DJP), Friday, 17 February 2017 14:51 (nine years ago)

is it just me or are you guys getting only low point value, low hero levels for the pvp matchmaking?

Mordy, Friday, 17 February 2017 18:18 (nine years ago)

I did too but still rode it to 900. It was decent for ISO too

droit au butt (Euler), Friday, 17 February 2017 18:21 (nine years ago)

yeah, same, it is kinda nice xp

why ruin a good tradition? (Will M.), Friday, 17 February 2017 18:31 (nine years ago)

i'm finding it extremely frustrating bc now i'm getting slammed by teams that are way higher than my bracket and i can't even attack them back

Mordy, Friday, 17 February 2017 18:46 (nine years ago)

I've been attacked once. I will trade low points on new attacks for not having to shield.

I have been debating taking my most recent PvE team (OML/Flaptain/Strang3) into the simulator but I don't know if an unbuffed Flaptain is worth the spot over Phoenix (if I had a red cover for Phoenix, it would be no question)

ornate orchestral arrangements (DJP), Friday, 17 February 2017 18:59 (nine years ago)

(although Flaptain is a more reliable tile-buffer than Phoenix and would feed Strange's stun)

ornate orchestral arrangements (DJP), Friday, 17 February 2017 19:00 (nine years ago)

i'm finding it extremely frustrating bc now i'm getting slammed by teams that are way higher than my bracket and i can't even attack them back

Heheh sorry about that.

Dr. MC Selar (Leee), Saturday, 18 February 2017 00:22 (nine years ago)

As for your 4* crunch, I easily use Jean, Iceman, and now Nova more than the others you've mentioned.

Jean + SWitch = 90% imperviousness against goons. Jean is also the best defense against an opponent's SWitch.
Iceman can wipe out entire teams with in one turn.
Nova can spit out strike tiles at nearly the same rate as Daken, but with the important difference that Nova's tiles are comparable in strength at level 70 and with just a single cover.

A note on Hulkbuster: for me he's become more of a specialist against Peggy, otherwise I'm not fond of his self-damage and I prefer other reds to his, and he pretty much has to have 5 red to be of any practical use (which may be hyperbole on my part).

All the rest are at best second-tier, i.e. only keep them if you have a lot of covers for them.

Dr. MC Selar (Leee), Saturday, 18 February 2017 00:36 (nine years ago)

I just got my 13th X-Force Deadpool cover and promptly champed him, readjusted to 5/3/5 (his countdown for what power was like... at 2 for a long time? or 3?) and teamed him up with my champed xfw to do the whole countdown + surgical strike combo. with xfdp boosted right now, he drops 6 tiles each doing 3000 damage... and they're all activated by the surgical strike (which itself does a few grand damage). It's GLORIOUS. Plus the countdowns hit sequentially so if they kill an enemy you keep damaging the next enemy. :D :D :D

he's only my 4th champed 4* (xfw, flaptain, hulkbuster) so i don't have a lot to compare to but between that power and his insanely heavy-hitting red power (with built-in healing!) he seems an excellent character indeed

why ruin a good tradition? (Will M.), Sunday, 19 February 2017 19:51 (nine years ago)

champed my 4 Cyclops a couple days ago, and he is fierce. he can drive himself, loading up on red with yellow and blue.

drew my 13th ghost rider cover, guess I'll champ him after Cho (who's at 262 now, just a few more days needed). but I might first level the 2 stars I've been re-covering, particularly now that they're going to be required for the new node in the Deadpool Daily.

droit au butt (Euler), Wednesday, 22 February 2017 15:03 (nine years ago)

I finished the Gauntlet yesterday. Still kind of shocked that I was able to.

ornate orchestral arrangements (DJP), Wednesday, 22 February 2017 15:05 (nine years ago)

nice! I finished it over the weekend, because I am desperate for ISO: had a 4 Cyclops cover & a Cho cover and need to 270 both before they expire. it's been frustrating how little there's been to do while the gauntlet's been going. I think I'll make it for Cho too, but it's going to be close.

droit au butt (Euler), Wednesday, 22 February 2017 15:09 (nine years ago)

I need to scrape together 70K of ISO in the next two days before my 14th Thoress cover expires because I had forgotten I had maxed her covers and recycled my 2* farm (oops)

ornate orchestral arrangements (DJP), Wednesday, 22 February 2017 15:11 (nine years ago)

i finished the gauntlet! a few of the battles took a few tries but i wrapped it up around monday

Mordy, Wednesday, 22 February 2017 15:43 (nine years ago)

New DDQ format! Hope we get Crashes more often now.

Downtown Julie Mau (Leee), Wednesday, 22 February 2017 18:18 (nine years ago)

Ugh no, still one Crash per cycle: https://d3go.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=59847&sid=fea702925416bbbd09bf2abf125e2dd1

Downtown Julie Mau (Leee), Wednesday, 22 February 2017 18:19 (nine years ago)

...for now?

Though more ISO would be more useful for me at this point.

droit au butt (Euler), Wednesday, 22 February 2017 19:44 (nine years ago)

i rarely ever complete DDQ as it is

Nhex, Wednesday, 22 February 2017 22:29 (nine years ago)

now it's more worthwhile bc of the 3rd token tho?

Mordy, Wednesday, 22 February 2017 22:54 (nine years ago)

i like it anyway.

next pve dropping 2x iron fist covers i need to champ him and another 4* luke cage which is pretty cool.

and btw djp u were right - i was able to grind enough hero points to roster the 4* hulk, and now i've got plenty of time (7 days for the iron man token and then however many more for the hulkbuster) to grind another 1000.

Mordy, Wednesday, 22 February 2017 23:03 (nine years ago)

ok i like the new DDQ. since the 3* tier is shorter, everything takes about the time. the new mission with the required 4/3/2* node is fun too

Nhex, Friday, 24 February 2017 04:57 (nine years ago)

Plz eli5 what bonus heroes are and how they work

Mordy, Wednesday, 1 March 2017 20:24 (nine years ago)

afaict, you build up a favorites list and have a chance to receive extra covers for those characters as you open tokens

ornate orchestral arrangements (DJP), Wednesday, 1 March 2017 20:25 (nine years ago)

what i don't get is - it is an extra pull, or just the same pull you're getting

Nhex, Wednesday, 1 March 2017 20:41 (nine years ago)

real nice of them to allow you to pick heroes you don't have as "favorites" to increase the chance of getting one

Nhex, Wednesday, 1 March 2017 20:41 (nine years ago)

what i don't get is - it is an extra pull, or just the same pull you're getting

You just get a cover of that favorited character(s). I saw this mechanic when I opened a standard and pulled a 3*, which gave me a bonus Strange (unfortunately, not the blue I needed for my 2/5/5).

Downtown Julie Mau (Leee), Wednesday, 1 March 2017 20:49 (nine years ago)

bonus = additional. I forget what 3* I pulled.

Anyway, it's kind of a remote chance if I understand correctly: first, you need to pull a 3*, 4*, or 5*, and even then you're not guaranteed of getting a bonus cover.

Downtown Julie Mau (Leee), Wednesday, 1 March 2017 20:50 (nine years ago)

yeah IIRC from the forums it's a single-digit percentage chance (5%?)

ornate orchestral arrangements (DJP), Wednesday, 1 March 2017 20:51 (nine years ago)

you think i'm better off making my existing 4*/5*s favorites or going for the ones i don't have?

Nhex, Wednesday, 1 March 2017 21:00 (nine years ago)

I decided to just do OML, Phoenix and Dr Strange in the 5* tier
4* I did the two I don't have (Medusa, Gwenpool) + the ones where I'm one cover away (Nick Fury, Elektra)

ornate orchestral arrangements (DJP), Wednesday, 1 March 2017 21:05 (nine years ago)

I went with Iceman and Nova (because I'm one cover away from a LT for each), 3* Strange, and OML. I didn't favorite Phoenix (5/0/5) because I'm terrified of pulling something other than a purple.

Downtown Julie Mau (Leee), Wednesday, 1 March 2017 21:13 (nine years ago)

And you can always change it, so there's probably no single best tactic here.
