aw man if you know the cities it's cool to play their different maps, at least it is for me. plus the rates of growth of new nodes and of distances between nodes varies with the cities. and some cities have different types of trains too.

droit au butt (Euler), Sunday, 25 December 2016 17:47 (seven years ago) link

also I live in Paris and the métro map here is weirder than any one I've concocted in the game yet

droit au butt (Euler), Sunday, 25 December 2016 17:48 (seven years ago) link

xp I've actually ridden abt half of the systems in this game and yeah it is p fun and novel at first. I didn't realize stuff spawned at diff rates and distances on diff levels, it all seems the same so far.

Fluffy Saint-Bernard (Stevie D(eux)), Monday, 26 December 2016 00:41 (seven years ago) link

Isn't the game more of a bus line simulator than trains? I think the Waypoint guys were talking to some urban planners about this a coupla months ago

haha that shit is annoying!! just a really poor design decision or is it intended as part of the difficulty. what does leveling up the castle do anyways

Helped when I started playing with Yoshi more. Unless it is against another yoshi.

The beaver is not the bad guy (El Tomboto), Sunday, 1 January 2017 16:17 (seven years ago) link

it sort of pushes my "logistical decisions are the only ones that really matter" button but it also, let's be frank, doesn't really contain any decisions that matter. it's a clicker

yep. i played through it obsessively twice and have erased it twice.

Got all those damn coins in Mario finally. Good game.

Love/hating Really Bad Chess Now. Like it but I reach a level and I get impatient thinking about potential moves and just lose.

Jeff, Sunday, 1 January 2017 17:52 (seven years ago) link

Still stuck on the black coins in the later levels. Moved on to Rally mode, which is fun...

I got all the coins and characters in Mario Run. I can't beat the black pipe stage. I might try for the cake decoration.

Really Bad Chess is easy when you can just trade down to victory. When the non-pawns become equal it gets harder.

Puzzle House: Mystery Rising is a good knockoff of The Room series.

I bought the big question mark block in SMR, and then accidentally built something on top of it, and it disappeared. Will I ever be able to buy it again?

DJI, Friday, 6 January 2017 21:36 (seven years ago) link

You still have it. Click Build, then Place (I think), and you get a list of all your stuff.

Soda Dungeon is still on my phone because of a fascination with what else could possibly be in the game, and also because of how ludologically insipid it is. Stuff like the Tower of Fortune series - a transparent slot machine mechanic upon which a vaguely creepy, low-res monochromatic dungeon crawl has been lovingly welded - actually has way more shit going on than this fucking thing does. It's literally outfit some bozos (there are technically 10 types of bozos I think, less than half of which are any good) with some gear (quite frankly, gear becomes moot very early on, but it's "fun" to pretend)

It's kind of difficult to believe there is more content, having so much stuff repeatedly thrown at me already - and yet I'm still chipping away at it; 99.9% of the time I just outfit a bunch of suckers and let them crawl to their doom on auto, then sell the crap they died collecting for me, go get more dakka from the relic shop, and wonder how many different cognitive gaps in the human mind I'm illustrating by not deleting this goofy-ass ad clicker.

The beaver is not the bad guy (El Tomboto), Sunday, 22 January 2017 18:40 (seven years ago) link

i turned it over three times and got to i guess level 400 or so. There are some new bad guys every once in a while. You're well served to quit.

On the 8th dimension now. Here's some notes on the bosses. The schema is as follows:

Number, Name, "Special Move"
So Easy The Computer Beats Them On Auto Without You Having To Do Anything? (or why not?)
Name and description of "Lair of Despair" form (after you beat them, they appear in the LoD, where all the monsters are worth more money, but get this, they're goofy)

1, Julius, "Fugue"
Yup
Cutelius, a lion cub

2, Alexandria, "Double Strike"
Yes, in fact
Lexums, a cat with a ball of yarn

3, Gaaan, "Kerfuffle"
Indeed
Gaanji, a terrier

4, Garrik, "Quake," "Reform"
Yessir
Telwick, a tortoise

5, Demora, "Rise From The Grave"
No. Not if you have any healers in your party. If you do, she'll only take damage from healing spells, and it takes FOREVER. She exists as a way of making sure you can't steamroll on auto all the way to level 700. Good idea. I can run a Knight/Mage/Healer/Mage/Thief all the way up to level 499 without touching anything, then I have to pick up the thing and micromanage the shit out of everybody for like 10 minutes? WHAT KIND OF GAME IS THIS A FLIGHT SIMULATOR
Lil' Daisy, a maltese with a bow on her head

6, Binary, "Bit Shift"
TRUE
Gizmo, a toy robot

7, Tengen, "Fury Chop," "Fighting Spirit"
No. On his first turn he immediately scares off (i.e. instantly defeats) anybody who isn't in the Fighter class. It's about the dumbest goddamn thing in the world. Once again a tricky bit of turbulence to navigate on this otherwise uneventful farming expedition! Clever move, Armor Games!
I don't fucking know I haven't bothered

I'll fill in the rest as I progress!
There's only about 500 youtubes about this shit, because WHY???? but don't watch them, they're full of spoilers and they don't warn you.

Karl Malone, Tuesday, 24 January 2017 08:21 (seven years ago) link

Oh the auto play function has done wonders for my screen time. Select bozo one two three four five. Check gear one two yup yup looks fine. HAVE FUN STORMING THE DUNGEON

at this point you put the phone down and can just pick it up on occasion to make sure they didn't all get killed. Like I said, the dumbness level is kind of astounding. Does my flight simulator joke make more sense now?

I read glowing reviews of them and treasure the memory of the books - they're on my wishlist.

Andrew Farrell, Tuesday, 24 January 2017 13:22 (seven years ago) link

Yes. They're great, like 80 Days but not as hyped. They're a lot more fun if you discipline yourself not to use the rewind option, IMO. Books: better with permadeath!

Soda Dungeon update!

OK so the only two bosses with a twist are the ones I already "complained" about up above - with sufficient buffs your party will walk through the entire rest of the game, including the "final" boss, on autoplay. Autoplay mode does not stop for dialogue boxes, it does not stop for treasure selection screens, it does not stop to make you choose between divergent paths, it'll just wait a little bit and then keep going. I have no idea what it's like to fight the 9th dungeon boss, or the giant extra-dimensional alien at the "end," other than a deep and abiding hunch that they are 1) the dumbest 2) easily crushed by the repeated application of the technique known as "tapping"

Now I'm in the WARRIOR DIMENSION and apparently there is some other stuff you can do, like collect bottle caps and shit? At this point though my relic buffs are so intense that five junkies in their underwear with a single stool and broken bottle among them can get all the way to level 240-something in the Lair of Despair before something finally wipes them out.

El Tomboto, Saturday, 28 January 2017 15:23 (seven years ago) link

I really wish they would add more levels to Mario Run. It's a fun game but there are hardly any levels, and it gets pretty dull pretty fast. How expensive could it really be for Nintendo just to release a few more levels? I feel they they really weren't listening to people here

Evan R, Tuesday, 31 January 2017 00:08 (seven years ago) link

And now Nintento has updated the game, changing around a bunch of stuff and adding some things. But still no new levels.

Evan R, Thursday, 2 February 2017 16:16 (seven years ago) link

i really hate them for the fact that you need to be connected to play this game. i hadn't realised that when buying it before going on a long plane ride, imagine my disappointment on board.

Jibe, Thursday, 2 February 2017 16:36 (seven years ago) link

yeah. designed to cut down on piracy, I'm sure, but it doesn't work well. It sometimes glitches after I finish a level and won't save my progress. Also how hard is it to offer an online mode?

Evan R, Thursday, 2 February 2017 16:41 (seven years ago) link

Yeah, I finally finished everything, I have 9999 toads, and I'd love some new levels. I'd even pay another $5 or something.
