Well now I'm determined to get to 100% on the stupid thing just so I can say I seen it all and it all sucked

Also I opened up Pixel People again for the first time in probably a year or more and oh no, it's all still there

two weeks pass...

Teeny Titans was on sale for $0.99, so I picked it up. Solid Pokemon clone/satire game on the mini-fig industry. Same dev who did Attack the Light, and just like in that game, I appreciated the staggering amount of fan service and show referencing.

Picked up imbroglio based on chatter above. Looks fun.

Chuck_Tatum, Monday, 5 September 2016 08:11 (nine years ago)

trying "the quest". it's big and complex.

SUPER MARIO fn RUN, y'all!!!!!

Fluffy Saint-Bernard (Stevie D(eux)), Monday, 19 December 2016 21:53 (nine years ago)

I'm enjoying it. Can't believe all of the 1-star reviews from cheapskates who aren't willing to spend 10 bucks on a genuine Mario game. Stuck on level 5-3, though. I've managed to black star the whole first world, but haven't tried rally mode yet. You?

DJI, Monday, 19 December 2016 21:56 (nine years ago)

remember how 1990s gamepro used to break down the ratings by graphics, sound, control, and the elusive fun factor? i feel like the modern day version of that also includes the Poop rating for iphone games

and i give it a poop rating of 4.0 (out of 5.0). the length of each level is perfect, it's definitely engaging, but it requires so much concentration that you're not really going to be able to poop until the 10-15 second gap between levels, unless you're one of those people that can rub their stomach counter-clockwise and tap their head clockwise while chewing gum and doing a kickflip.

everything else gets a 5.0, it's great. rally mode is great because it rewards you for playing with style which is very much part of the super mario experience imo. yeah, most people can get through the old school games eventually, but the true super mario pros are the ones that effortlessly glide through levels floating through the air from koopa shell to bullet bill to goomba. it's great how Super Mario Run has created an incentive to play like that.

Karl Malone, Monday, 19 December 2016 22:05 (nine years ago)

i am not enjoying the ghosthouse levels, though. :-/
is there any way to figure out which doors are the correct ones other than trial and error?

Karl Malone, Monday, 19 December 2016 22:08 (nine years ago)

Ho do you kill the ghosts (I mean "boos")? I've only been able to do it by accident...

DJI, Monday, 19 December 2016 22:20 (nine years ago)

Backflip over them I think?

Jeff, Monday, 19 December 2016 22:41 (nine years ago)

Seems to work! Thank you.

DJI, Monday, 19 December 2016 23:24 (nine years ago)

I have all 120 pink coins, all 120 purple coins, and 115/120 black coins, plus like 3200 toads :-/ I play this too much

Fluffy Saint-Bernard (Stevie D(eux)), Tuesday, 20 December 2016 18:19 (nine years ago)

Dag. Working my way through purples now. It's just a very satisfying experience when you hit a perfect run.

Jeff, Tuesday, 20 December 2016 18:39 (nine years ago)

pro-tip -- unlock Yoshi and getting the coins will be SO much easier (maybe other characters too but I haven't like Toad and I haven't used any of the others, really)

Fluffy Saint-Bernard (Stevie D(eux)), Tuesday, 20 December 2016 19:12 (nine years ago)

How do I switch characters?

Jeff, Tuesday, 20 December 2016 19:15 (nine years ago)

well to unlock Yoshi you need 30 ea red and yellow toads, and then you need to buy the Yoshi house, and then there's an option to change characters in the lower right corner of the level select screen

Fluffy Saint-Bernard (Stevie D(eux)), Tuesday, 20 December 2016 19:18 (nine years ago)

i bought it and suck at it. heres to not spiking my iphone in the new year

you know it's true

Karl Malone, Wednesday, 21 December 2016 22:40 (nine years ago)

I played it on iPad, it looked great. Not sure how that would translate to a little mobile phone. And yeah, it's awesome - $9.99 isn't unreasonable at all, but I do think it's kinda lame how it just springs it on you with no advance warning, it's presented as "free but you have to pay to unlock some stuff", not "the whole game". Oh well, whatever. Anyone know how you kill the plant dudes that come out of the pipes?

frogbs, Wednesday, 21 December 2016 23:00 (nine years ago)

stars, baby, stars

A big shout out goes to the lamb chops, thos lamb chops (ulysses), Wednesday, 21 December 2016 23:06 (nine years ago)

I now have all 120 pink, purple, and black coins, about 78,000 coins in the bank, and almost 4000 toads. I'm bored.

Fluffy Saint-Bernard (Stevie D(eux)), Thursday, 22 December 2016 03:56 (nine years ago)

That was fast.

DJI, Thursday, 22 December 2016 05:16 (nine years ago)

I'm terrible at toad rally.

Jeff, Thursday, 22 December 2016 10:27 (nine years ago)

You have to do as many special moves and get as many coins as possible. Basically, the amount of coins you get largely determines whether you win or lose, and the amount of special moves you do (combined w/ special moves yr opponent does) determines how many toads you'll get for winning:

Fluffy Saint-Bernard (Stevie D(eux)), Thursday, 22 December 2016 14:59 (nine years ago)

what are the "special moves" - like comboing off goomba's heads? with only one "button" there isn't a whole lot you can do but I do feel like I'm missing a few things

Fluffy Saint-Bernard (Stevie D(eux)), Thursday, 22 December 2016 16:06 (nine years ago)

Reigns and Alto's Adventure both $1 right now. Worth my "valuable" time?
Still haven't splurged on Mario Run yet. Skeptical.

Nhex, Friday, 23 December 2016 23:09 (nine years ago)

alto's is great.

Nhex, Saturday, 24 December 2016 22:07 (nine years ago)

Rly disappointed with Mini Metro. It's so well designed that it seems like it would have a lot of depth, but it's p superficial. There are too many weird variables and too few constants to make it legit urban planny, which is fine, but then why make it ostensibly a transit-building game?

Fluffy Saint-Bernard (Stevie D(eux)), Sunday, 25 December 2016 14:09 (nine years ago)

Like to win you have to build strange patterns that would be wildly impractical for an actual subway system and my brain is just like "NO YOU CANNOT POSSIBLY BUILD TRAINS LIKE THAT!!!!!"

Fluffy Saint-Bernard (Stevie D(eux)), Sunday, 25 December 2016 14:10 (nine years ago)

It's just a puzzle game! Are you expecting railroad tycoon?

Jeff, Sunday, 25 December 2016 15:50 (nine years ago)

I mean vaguely? Like maybe something a little more transity and a little less totally-arbitrary-shapes-mover?

Fluffy Saint-Bernard (Stevie D(eux)), Sunday, 25 December 2016 16:14 (nine years ago)

Also why are there like 20 levels when they are all virtually identical? Like if everything is generated as randomly as it is, it doesn't make much diff where the rivers. You can take identical approaches to every damn level.

Fluffy Saint-Bernard (Stevie D(eux)), Sunday, 25 December 2016 16:17 (nine years ago)

aw man if you know the cities it's cool to play their different maps, at least it is for me. plus the rates of growth of new nodes and of distances between nodes varies with the cities. and some cities have different types of trains too.
