think witcher 3 is my favourite game of all time. it's up there anyway.

^^

jamiesummerz, Wednesday, 17 August 2016 14:16 (nine years ago)

i want to play that but my wife will make fun of the sex scenes and i don't know if my fragile ego can take it

Immediate Follower (NA), Wednesday, 17 August 2016 14:20 (nine years ago)

ts: witcher 3's sex scenes vs bloodborne's cryptic world of lovecraftian menstruation cults

pokemon go speed run (bizarro gazzara), Wednesday, 17 August 2016 14:59 (nine years ago)

yeah a few times in my flatmate chatted to me while i was playing witcher 3 and i was incredibly embarrassed. that wasn't even during the boning scenes. i was caught between shame and the need to intently watch the cutscenes because i was engrossed in what was happening.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 17 August 2016 15:18 (nine years ago)

lol. just gotta say fuck everyone else!!

Nhex, Wednesday, 17 August 2016 17:11 (nine years ago)

two months pass...

has anyone got the virtual reality thing or given it a go? i'm kinda tempted i have to say. reviews seem fairly positive.

i watched some VR livestreams last night via ps4/twitch and every single game looks fumbly and immensely awkward to control

the notes the loon doesn't play (ulysses), Friday, 21 October 2016 14:08 (nine years ago)

played some rail shooter game for a few minutes in gamestop, it was fine i guess. the resolution left something to be desired but was able to get immersed pretty quickly.

i'm not entirely convinced we've figured out what good VR experiences are going to be. much like how the Wii went from standing up and swinging your remote to sitting on the couch and flicking your wrist as little as possible, i think the physical/spatial interactions are just a novelty. cuz of that i think im going to sit out the first and probably second gen of VR

bitcoin bajas (diamonddave85), Friday, 21 October 2016 14:29 (nine years ago)

my workplace got a hololens and that's pretty dope though, i can see more legit cool uses for that. the problem with the current dev model is that the "active" is about postcard sized but i imagine that'll be fixed in later iterations

bitcoin bajas (diamonddave85), Friday, 21 October 2016 14:32 (nine years ago)

Well, it's like a whole new paradigm, yeah? People who have been gaming for years are used to variations on basically the same controller (some fiddly bits and buttons) + video screen so we're comfortable with that setup and it's relatively easy to adapt from system to system. But if you watch someone with very little gaming familiarity try to navigate that setup, it's like watching an infant learn to walk. I would imagine adjusting to VR is pretty similar.

CeCe Penistongs (Old Lunch), Friday, 21 October 2016 14:43 (nine years ago)

certainly, but my impression was that game designers are in the same boat for the most part and are unclear how to best design for the tech.

the notes the loon doesn't play (ulysses), Friday, 21 October 2016 14:44 (nine years ago)

someone please send me a playstation vr headset and a copy of rez infinite and i will let you know if it's any good

Mentioned this a bit on the rift and general vr thread, I got one of these and I'm really really loving it, but you just shouldn't trust my opinion of it because I'm a massive nerd for anything 3d. I mean I can still happily lose hours of my life in a viewmaster so vr is just perfect for me. That batman thing is meant to last 30-60 minutes but I've been in there a couple of hours and still haven't even finished a first run through yet because I'll just end up standing around marvelling at the detail on a handrail or whatever.

With that in mind, the things I've loved most so far are yep, Batman. Also Tumble VR because it's just a "build a tall pile of bricks" game but a) it feels hugely tactile and *real*, and b) I've been enjoying "build a tall pile of bricks" since I was 2, it's an all time classic. Also, Rez on this is just as amazing as you'd hope it'd be. And the "Robot Rescue" minigame within the Playroom demoy thing is really amazing too, and needs to become a full game asap.

JimD, Sunday, 23 October 2016 13:22 (nine years ago)

I havent tried VR yet but agree that Build a Tall Pile of Bricks is an all-time classic regardless of...platform. Haha

I look forward to hearing from you shortly, (Karl Malone), Sunday, 23 October 2016 15:54 (nine years ago)

bought one and sent it back a few days later... i couldn't get past the fact that i could always see the side of the lenses whatever i was doing; it totally stopped the immersion for me...
but maybe i have a weird shaped head that emphasised that? also the power/quality just didnt feel like it was there yet for me to put down £350 on it right now.
amazon refunded within 2 days so no big issue. if it turns out that the catalogue becomes fantastic and ps 4 pro / ps5 really ups the quality, then maybe i'll jump back on in a year or two when it'll be cheaper

jamiesummerz, Monday, 24 October 2016 11:57 (nine years ago)

My first big disappointment of remaining steadfastly last gen is discovering that this year's Jackbox Party Pack won't be released on PS3. The two previous editions have been huge holiday-time hits with my family.

Time to blow it all on a PS4 Pro with VR!

Nhex, Sunday, 6 November 2016 18:12 (nine years ago)

OK, so we finally got a PS4 with Uncharted, Star Wars BF and GTAV. Coming late to this, what should we get next? I kinda want an online FPS with a bit more depth than Star Wars so Battlefield 1/ Call of Duty/ an other? Voice chat is an absolute must as I want to be able to swear creatively at teenagers and I WANT THEM TO HEAR ME.

thomasintrouble, Monday, 7 November 2016 13:59 (nine years ago)

titanfall 2 for sure

adam, Monday, 7 November 2016 15:19 (nine years ago)

Titanfall 2 is getting ace reviews. Destiny PvP is fantastic fun and you can get the base game plus all DLC for a really good price - hundreds of hours of goodness in there.

initial thoughts are Bloodborne, Witcher 3, Doom for the singleplayer, Rayman Legends if you have kids/a partner who can do the co-op with you.

jamiesummerz, Monday, 7 November 2016 16:47 (nine years ago)

Thanks both. Great fun digging into games available for a 'new' console. I think I'm spending more time on metacritic and the playstation store than I am actually playing. Loved Dark Souls 1 & 2 so Bloodborne looks a bit good, ditto DS3 and Salt&Sanctuary. Hard to justify to the wife and teens though 'cos its only really me that likes hard games. I somehow had it in my head that the Titanfall games were all flash and no substance but, as you say, 2 is getting great reviews. Witcher 3 on the list but slightly daunting as looks massive - maybe after we've got bored of GTAV. So maybe Doom? Hard decisions !

thomasintrouble, Monday, 7 November 2016 18:53 (nine years ago)

Inside (sequel to Limbo) is short but great, maybe a tiny bit too dark for kids but idk?

sam jax sax jam (Jordan), Monday, 7 November 2016 18:56 (nine years ago)

Ace, will have a look at Inside. Youngest is 14, and anyway we've long given up any pretence of being responsible parents, so dark is good.

thomasintrouble, Monday, 7 November 2016 20:01 (nine years ago)

If you have any interest in cooperative instead of competitive shooters, highest recommendation for EDF 4.1, especially in split-screen co-op with someone next to you devising far-fetched tactics that'll backfire horribly.

+1 for Inside

badg, Monday, 7 November 2016 23:11 (nine years ago)

is that blizzard shooter game any fun on ps4

mh 😏, Monday, 7 November 2016 23:45 (nine years ago)

I like it

(•̪●) (carne asada), Tuesday, 8 November 2016 04:01 (nine years ago)

yes. bit short on content but whats is there is some shiny shiny quality goodness.

jamiesummerz, Tuesday, 8 November 2016 15:16 (nine years ago)

xposts I'm way late to the party but I just recently installed one of the EDF games on my Vita and its like my platonic ideal of a certain type of game (I guess the 'unending hordes of things coming at you but with a completely variable level of difficulty depending on your mood' type of game).

i need microsoft installed on my desktop, can you help (Old Lunch), Tuesday, 8 November 2016 15:32 (nine years ago)

is edf online multiplayer too? looks a bit clusterfuck in a good way like planetside 2

am0n, Tuesday, 8 November 2016 16:02 (nine years ago)

how come no 1 plays planetside 2, its free on ps4

am0n, Tuesday, 8 November 2016 16:04 (nine years ago)

I am intrigued, tell me more

mh 😏, Tuesday, 8 November 2016 16:36 (nine years ago)

large scale multiplayer sci-fi fps. 3 factions that fight for territory so its always battles of attrition but its often chaotic and hilarious imo

am0n, Tuesday, 8 November 2016 18:04 (nine years ago)

xp

EDF 4.1 has online and offline split-screen multiplayer but not both at the same time.
Since you mentioned Planetside, perhaps I should clarify that EDF's MP is strictly co-op PvE and the team maxes out at 4 players if online, 2 if split-screen.

chihuahuau, Tuesday, 8 November 2016 18:15 (nine years ago)

titanfall 2 is the real deal. so much fun and chock full of ideas. brutal at first, with a real steep learning curve but once it clicks... hooo boy

||||||||, Tuesday, 8 November 2016 23:27 (nine years ago)

oooh i want it

that and/or dishonored 2

jason waterfalls (gbx), Tuesday, 8 November 2016 23:29 (nine years ago)

cool if you get it and have any questions (you will), I'll try to help out. frothyomen's videos on youtube are worth watching for guides (and a flavour of the different mechanics)

||||||||, Tuesday, 8 November 2016 23:36 (nine years ago)

i find the best strategy in titanfall 2 is to always be running on walls and jumping off walls preferably into more wall runs

this confuses the enemy

Anyone else picking up a PS4 Pro? I'm basically their ideal customer here I guess, I've got a 4k HDR screen with not many 4k HDR sources, plus I've been considering getting a second PS4 for a while anyway (so me and my son can co-op in Destiny etc). So I've got one on order. But it's hard to believe there are many other people in the same boat. And I'm not sure what pro functionality I'll even be making use of, Shadow of Mordor and Infamous First Light are both getting patched for Pro and I own both and finished neither, so I guess I'll give those a try, plus maybe Uncharted (which I kinda saved for this). But beyond those, I dunno. Destiny won't be getting an upgrade, and neither will The Witcher (which is currently at the front of my backlog queue).

JimD, Wednesday, 9 November 2016 02:52 (nine years ago)

they really fucked up not putting a 4K blu-ray player in there IMO
cuz on the other side you've got the new X1 that does have it, plus they have some kind of new machine coming out next year as well (which is also kinda stupid but what can you do)

wondering how much 4K TV adoption has gotten out there yet. feel like it's not gonna go big for a while

Nhex, Wednesday, 9 November 2016 03:44 (nine years ago)

there are so few 4k bluray releases actually out there that i really dont think its a big thing. by the time 4k bluray really takes off (if it ever does) - it'll no doubt be time for PS5.
i know very few people who still collect physical media anyway - digital stream or download is the way of things and Sony obviously thought it wasn't worth the extra cost to include.

jamiesummerz, Wednesday, 9 November 2016 16:03 (nine years ago)

Lack of 4K bluray is a major reason why I'm not buying a pro now, even though I was originally holding out for an upgrade. 'Stream or download' is not the way of things if you want great picture quality and if you've bought a new 4k hdr tv you should care about quality.

abcfsk, Friday, 11 November 2016 12:17 (nine years ago)

I was going to say, is Blu Ray still a thing, it seems to have stalled at half the shelf space of DVDs, but then if you've bought a 4k HDR then you're a little incentivized, I guess?

Andrew Farrell, Friday, 11 November 2016 12:58 (nine years ago)

Yeah tbh I'm torn, definitely wasn't happy they didn't put a drive in, but then my entire non-4k BR collection consists of about 6 discs and everything else I ever watch, I stream via Plex. Was I really about to start buying lots of 4k BR just to make the most of the screen I've got? Probably not.

Anyway this feels like a worthwhile upgrade to me, the (admittedly few) things that are running in 4k HDR really do look stunning.

JimD, Friday, 11 November 2016 23:32 (nine years ago)

anyone got any of the big new releases?

tempted by dishonored 2 - i never played the first one but always wanted to. watchdogs 2 also out? titanfall 2?

basically what game should i ask my brother to buy me for christmas?

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Thursday, 17 November 2016 12:05 (nine years ago)

titanfall is amazing but very tough and brutal for the first couple of hours of mp. even faster paced than CoD

by all accounts the SP is solid too.
