one thing niantic absolutely does deserve shit for is not expanding on crowdsourced ingress at all, completely ignoring the massive demographic shift between the two games and making it virtually inaccessible for a massive amount of people

yeah this is absolutely divisive. from my inner-city flat i can see 54 pokestops and five gyms (so all within 700m). from my sister-in-law's house in the burbs i can see nothing at all. she drove us 15 minutes to her 'local' shopping centre which has one gym and two pokestops. if she were to sign up she'd have to buy supplies, but when i need 100 pokeballs i just walk round the block.

apparently niantic stopped processing portals ~2 years ago, and i'm guessing a lot of late-to-the-game ingress players operated in these empty areas. niantic needs to work on the enormous discrepancy here if they want the game to succeed long term, whether it's processing those portal submissions or importing points of interest from some other database.

of all the issues with pokemon go, this feels like the most vital to resolve because it's cutting swathes of people out of the game and/or forcing them to spend money just to keep up.

^ This is good and pretty essential, lots of people complaining that it's game-breaking but eh, the game's broke already imo, this actually makes it playable again.

Pro tip though - don't check it when you're in bed, nothing more frustrating than seeing a squirtle around the corner when you're already undressed etc.

it's super weird that those mapping api calls have been broken for almost a week. 3 paws was always silly but not having 1 or 2 means that whole function is useless. i'd be happier if they just hid the whole feature until they got it working.

Turns out that if you're on a boardwalk and you haven't maxed out your pokeballs you aren't trying

tried my first fight yesterday. either my signal cut out or my phone hit a bug. after a minute or two it stopped registering taps and i got to watch my 6 get wiped out. fun!

so there's no way to get pokecoins / get the bag upgrade etc. without paying real money right?

take over a gym, go to the "shop," click the shield, you get stardust and coins.

500 dust + 10 coins for each gym you're holding; i find it tough to hold more thna one at a time, though. By the time you walk to another, someone's knocked down the last one.

You can click it once a day, roughly, meaning it'll only take you almost a month to upgrade your storage!

Even if you're low level, you can take a gym. Just wait until it's already getting attacked by your team, and jump into it once they take it.

I haven't had any gym success. my highest cp pokemon is a 690 hypno :( only at level 11 though.

my new goal is to try and knock over as many gyms as i can w/ the last hour of my 20-hour timer going and see what happens

i've tried a few battles and maybe it's just my phone being terrible but i can never tell what's going on, if or when i'm hitting the other one, if and when i'm dodging, etc. i just keep tapping on them and keep swiping mine left or right or something and the health bars both gradually go down except all mine die first. it doesn't feel like there's any connection between my input and the stuff that's happening on screen

since i hit level 25 roughly every second pokemon runs away. the balance in this game is terrible. i should not have to burn off a load of ultra balls on a 10 cp pidgey that fucks off regardless.
