I work near the Lincoln Memorial. I meant to head out there today and see if there was anyone Pokemanning.

I'm 36. A pair of my roommates in college were obsessed with Pokemon around 2000 when it was first getting huge, but it seemed pretty weird to me even then. I still watched all the shows with them, but I didn't really care too much about it. They watched Digimon too and I remember liking that better.

Yeah I'm 45, this escaped me completely, i was already an adult when it was a thing.

I already said how I missed everything between 1992 and 2007. But I've been relearning everything with the kids, starting with this mysterious Spongebob character who I've now seen all 982 episodes of. That said, the kids hadn't got to Pokemon yet, probably because it's old game that uses physical pogs or whatever.

However - Pokemon, Mario, Angry Birds, Legos - it doesn't matter. I'd be all over this stupid game if my Android phone wasn't a piece of shit.

I'm just saying I've only had one busride sighting of a pokemon goer, I expected a lot more. maybe I'll keep an eye out tomorrow

i just hit lv 16 and my highest pokemon is cp810. it's getting harder not easier to catch <cp100 pokemon which i think is not the point, so they might want to tweak that.

this morning when the servers crashed i had another go at ingress. it's exactly as fucking inscrutable as it was when i tried it 2–3 years ago. so many woozy blast animations that you can't see anything else except the million buttons and menus that don't explain what you're supposed to do next. the beauty of pokemon go is that you can just pick it up and play it (and it doesn't look like a winamp skin).

i saw at least a hundred people playing this walking the streets of BK and QNS; there was an apparently organized group of well over 50 people playing this in Central Park today.

woo just hit lvl 5 - found a Tangela hanging outside my house. do u guys transfer all duplicate pokemon you find (or not bother catching them at all)?

i transfer the low-cp ones because they're useless at that point.

in general you're better off catching everything you see because it cranks up your xp, and you get extra evolution candy and stuff. the fact that pokeballs are in abundance (if you live near enough pokestops) means you can catch as many as you like.

seriously the big park in town is getting jam packed...i am used to rando men saying creepy af shit to me so i am on defense mode when a strange man approaches me but it's ALL been like 'hey...looks like you're playing pokemon go...just so you know, charizard shows up a lot in that rose garden'

it crashes super regularly for me.

cool i can never tell. i cracked my device for the first time this year and i can never tell if it's me or some other shit

saw an update for it this morning for iOS- have gotten less crashes, no sign-in probs, & apparently they limited the scope of what info the app had access to (they're prob downplaying how much they restrained it but still, good to know they addressed it in some fashion)

re stability: most mornings (i'm in australia) it's a mess, but it clears up after lunch when america goes to bed. yesterday's update did seem to improve stability, although that could be coincidence (they're doing a heap of back-end server work).

I give this 3 months and it will be a mess of corporate-sponsored manipulation.

i feel like america should have been consulted before they dropped this on us. it's weird that people's houses are gyms and there are doduos all over the house.

it just seems obnoxious. they transformed the world, got a kid shot, and then they have the gall to tell professional pokemon trainer ivy st ive she can't charge ppl $20/hr to train their pokemon. they decide everything.

I've started. It's admittedly very sinister, but there's no denying that hysterical ecstasy encroaching on the consciousness. There were lures everywhere around Kings Cross today and so many people playing it. It's making me feel slightly less hostile towards strangers, but this is early days.

it's fun and mostly harmless. The park by my house has multiple stations and a gym on each end. nice group of people of all ages hanging out the other evening at the tables and someone has a bunch of pizza and sodas delivered for everyone to share.
