golden 90% discounts fading into the ether
― Nhex, Friday, 24 June 2016 06:35 (nine years ago)
I think it's better than the last big sale, at least for indie games. I recommend English Country Tune, from the guy who made Stephen's Sausage Roll. 90% off, under $1.
other stuff I bought:The Sea Will Claim EverythingPony IslandCrypt of the NecroDancerKero Blaster, from the creators of Cave StoryShadowgate 2014Castle in the DarknessSubject 13Sega MegaDrive and Genesis packs 1-5 -- around 20 cents per gamesomething called Teddy Floppy Ear Bundle for $1

I've got like £11 in unused credit from trading card sales so I think I'll cash that in and pick up a steam controller for an effective £17.
Beyond that, I might grab Prison Architect and Divinity: Original Sin. Maybe Sniper Elite 3 too.
― JimD, Friday, 24 June 2016 16:59 (nine years ago)
i can recommend prison architect + divinity - both good, solid (tho not classic) games
― Mordy, Friday, 24 June 2016 17:01 (nine years ago)
Feel like we almost should have a knowledgebase/wiki for our cheap Steam sale recommendations
― Nhex, Sunday, 26 June 2016 05:51 (nine years ago)
anyone tried subnautica? one of the rps writers is heavily recommending it and it looks interstng.
― Mordy, Tuesday, 28 June 2016 14:47 (nine years ago)
i bought it b/c of that RPS article, it is very pleasant but even in non-survival mode is a little more minecrafty than i want. i have zero interest in resource management, just let me chill
― adam, Tuesday, 28 June 2016 16:15 (nine years ago)
maybe there's a straight chill mode idk i'ma go back to it tonight
― adam, Tuesday, 28 June 2016 16:16 (nine years ago)
picked up Please Don't Touch Anything ($0.99) and BloodGate ($0.89). most of the other stuff i'm interested isn't particularly discounted. sad!
― Mordy, Sunday, 3 July 2016 20:36 (nine years ago)
those are in my cart too, heh. thanks Trump voice
― Nhex, Sunday, 3 July 2016 21:37 (nine years ago)
subnautica has a chill mode yeah -- "exploration" i think. me on whatchu playin:
subnautica -- my go-to oculus demo: a standard post-minecraft survival game of the kind that now seems to be most of steam, but in the (alien, cartoony) ocean. can't play it that often, at least not with the thing on my head, cuz it scares me -- the 360-degree vulnerability; the distant groans of vast, unseen fauna. mostly play it as an environment, not a game, but wish i had the patience to craft myself a submarine or whatever. (would be less scared if i had a submarine.)
it's v pretty and the deeps are frightening to look at.
― le Histoire du Edgy Miley (difficult listening hour), Sunday, 3 July 2016 22:06 (nine years ago)
oh you still have to craft stuff to have stuff, even in the chillest mode -- maybe that's what you meant. i never made anything much more advanced than the handheld scanner.

life is strange is FINALLY available on the mac and the first ep is currently free on steam. i know what i'll be doing tnite (if i'm not throwing away another promising character in nethack)
― Mordy, Thursday, 21 July 2016 23:19 (nine years ago)
I paid 75p for the latest humble bundle and I got two games I already owned but didn't realise I already owned, plus Duke Nukem Forever.
― JimD, Thursday, 21 July 2016 23:22 (nine years ago)
so steam has made converting cards into wallet funds harder, because you now have to confirm every single sale by email or phone app. previously it was easy to use a game idler and an auto-seller, but no more.
― remove butt (abanana), Thursday, 21 July 2016 23:59 (nine years ago)
Anno games on sale this weekend. Might give in and actually pay money for 2205

stardew valley supposedly coming out for mac next week!!!
― Mordy, Friday, 22 July 2016 20:30 (nine years ago)
The new PSN summer sale overlaps heavily with my "big RPGs I meant to play but hadn't got around to buying yet" list. So I've got Witcher 3, Divinity Original Sin and Dragon Age Inquisition for £41 total. That's something like 10p per hour of gameplay, struggling to remember a better cost/entertainment ratio really. Course the downside is that these days I seem to fit in about 2 hours of gaming a week at most. So this lot is going to keep me busy for the next four years.
― JimD, Thursday, 28 July 2016 18:06 (nine years ago)
^^^ hitting the realisation that my current Steam Library (sans stuff on my wishlist) might well see me out.
― Andrew Farrell, Thursday, 28 July 2016 20:44 (nine years ago)
Of course in a couple of years they'll come up with something where you can fit a jack behind your ear and game while you sleep.

new humble bundle = nuclear throne for $10 which really is enough on its own but you also get lethal league, the beginner's guide, galak-z, lovers in a dangerous spacetime, octodad, super time force ultra, and new games coming -- ALL MAC COMPATIBLE
― Mordy, Tuesday, 16 August 2016 21:41 (nine years ago)
yeah, the survive this bundle is also pretty rad.
― thrusted pelvis-first back (ulysses), Tuesday, 16 August 2016 22:09 (nine years ago)
galak z and super time force are both really fun
― adam, Tuesday, 16 August 2016 22:56 (nine years ago)
aw yeah, i'm in for HIB 17
― Nhex, Wednesday, 17 August 2016 00:10 (nine years ago)
why is nuclear throne good again
― the ghost of tom, choad (thomp), Wednesday, 17 August 2016 01:21 (nine years ago)
yr asking bc you don't like it or bc you want me to pitch it? it's a post-apoc roguelike that is v demanding but rewarding w/ a fun aesthetic + lots of variety in weapon loadouts, monsters (w/ interesting sets of behavior), hidden secrets, replay-ability, etc. i think binding of isaac fans would like it.
― Mordy, Wednesday, 17 August 2016 01:23 (nine years ago)
the latter, idk, i read the humble bundle summary and i was like 'have i played this game or not'
i don't know if yr description appeals to me or not -- i played like twenty, thirty hours of binding of isaac and yet i'm pretty sure i don't think it is 'good' in any worthwhile sense
― the ghost of tom, choad (thomp), Thursday, 18 August 2016 14:01 (nine years ago)
if you don't think binding of isaac is good, a) you probably won't like nuclear throne and b) you and i clearly want different things from our games :p
― Mordy, Thursday, 18 August 2016 14:07 (nine years ago)
i prefer nuclear throne to binding of isaac but that is largely because i don't like the binding of isaac aesthetic at all.
― adam, Thursday, 18 August 2016 14:09 (nine years ago)
I like Nuclear Throne a whole bunch but I greatly prefer the way BoI handles shooting. both games, however, are extremely great (although I mostly play both on Vita while I have a movie or whatever on in the background).
Galak-Z is also phenomenal although I am incredibly bad at it. in general I have a lot of love for games which play like SNES games with current-gen physics/logic/memory under the hood (see also: Spelunky, Rogue Legacy, Risk of Rain)

fantastic sierra humble bundle (sadly none for mac)
― Mordy, Tuesday, 30 August 2016 22:03 (nine years ago)
between HIB 17, the Capcom one and this one in 3 weeks they're killing it a little too hard for my wallet
― Nhex, Wednesday, 31 August 2016 00:17 (nine years ago)
synchronicity with the latest http://www.filfre.net/ article, which was about Sierra/KQ4 and made me super nostalgic for Sierra games even though the general gist was that KQ4 was horrible and impossible and not even fun (but had good sound)
I sort of want the Gabriel Knights and QfGs but the "pay more" options are a bit pricy for a bunch of elderly games which I'll never play and which were probably immensely frustrating so maybe I'll just put down a buck for the Space Quests and Police Quests
(I think PQ1 was my first graphical adventure? People say it's ridiculous how often you die, ohh man you die just because you didn't walk round the car before driving wah wah waah, but I played when I was young and quite bad at even basic game interaction and saving/dying every 20 seconds was all part of the game to me, constant instadeath not really bothering me tbh. PQ2 however, where I left the scene of the crime prematurely after my colleague told me to chase the bad guy and I got stuck in an insoluble state... or that annoying chasm walk in KQ3 which was bad enough the first time but should definitely have been unnecessary all subsequent times...)
