A PS4 Thread: Because You Had to Play "Knack"

the pstv always seemed like a baffling idea to me right from the off - i still can't quite believe it made it to market in the first place

i have a vita but i never felt like i was missing out not being able to play those games on my tv, either because the games i enjoyed most were a) cross-play with ps3 and ps4 so i could already play them on my tv using those machines instead or b) not compatible with the pstv because they needed the vita's backend touchscreen. also i'm pretty sure a lot of vita games which look great on the vita's little screen would look like total butt on my 40-inch tv.

it's kinda weird too that sony thought consumers might need not just one but two additional devices capable of streaming gameplay from their ps4, right?

Yeah I mean, like many of Sony's gaming ideas, it has potential but its actual implementation seems utimately half-assed.

was surprised to hear about the streaming to PC/Mac, even more surprised to find that they were just playing catchup with the XBone/Windows 10 functionality appparently

yesterday my kids discovered a trove of ancient games, all still perfectly playable on my PS3:

- vib ribbon
- parappa the rapper
- tomb raider

i really like that i can still play them

uh, i mean that they can play them ;)

btw been playing star wars battlefront, if anyone else wants to shoot me a lot

i haven't played in a long time but i'd be up for it! i pretty much play Assault mode exclusively

I've played that one a bit, but have mostly been playing the capture the flag / capture the escape pod variants. I'm reeeeeally bad at shooters on consoles so far, but I think I'm getting incrementally better

I'm guessing he meant physical copies of PS1 games. Parappa is only available digitally for PSP/Vita afaik. But Parappa 2 is available for the PS4 in the PS store now, you lucky sumbitches.

No, apparently Parappa 2 is an actual PS2 game I didn't even know existed. Um Jammer Lammy is fantastic, though. So nice I've bought it thrice.

Speaking of, Sony just announced that they've officially stopped producing the Playstation TV. Anyone have one of these? What do you think? Should I get one while the gettin's good? I think I like the idea of playing my Vita games on the TV. But I don't know if it would be more than just a novelty, particularly since not all games are even compatible with it.

as the resident in-house dumbass who buys all the stupid things (you may remember me from such films as "trying to convince myself to buy a 3DS Happy Home Designer bundle to get the smaller New 3DS with the colored buttons"), the Playstation TV feels like a safe one to skip. if I'm going to be playing a video game on my TV it should be something designed to look & feel good on a screen of that size. some of those experiences (hello Spelunky) are exportable to the Vita platform because the Vita is actually a wonderfully powerful piece of hardware which can handle a considerable amount of video game, but most aren't so 9 times out of 10 the Playstation TV brings nothing to the table. I seriously doubt P4 is going to be any more fun played with a DS4 gazing across my living room at a TV than it was on my Vita over the course of a couple dozen airports.

I downloaded Salt & Sanctuary, i.e. 2-D Dark Souls (+Castlevania?). They really released this at the absolute perfect time, didn't they.

Man, this is great so far. It actually feels like playing Dark Souls for the first time, in that I am bad and don't exactly know how everything works yet.

i haven't tried it, but don't most groundbreaking games spawn legions of imitators? didn't the original final fantasy pretty much rip off the most essential features of dragon quest?

it does look cool! kind of shocked when i found out it wasn't by FromSoft, they even have the exact same font for the UI.

omg the skill tree on salt and sanctuary, this is amazing

no one has mentioned symphony of the night as an influence on salt & sanctuary, probably just because SOFT is an obvious influence on the souls games, but the quality of salt & sanctuary 2-d combat feels pleasingly similar.

i love this game. working on a certain dragon boss, and i think i might be making it hard on myself by sticking with a whip a la Castlevania/Bloodborne. also it seems like this game might turn out to be as long as a real Souls game, which is crazy.

Ok - I too have drank the kool-aid and picked up a '4PS' - my PS3 wasn't getting gaming love, and the Uncharted 4 pushed me over the edge - it is indeed a beautiful game. Picked up Ratchet and Clank too, since that was my first PS3 game, and it's awesome. Super Mega Baseball and Resogun purchased just b/c of this thread. I'm 'mct_rt' on Playstation network ...

Big <$5 flash sale in the PSN store. I mostly just want to stump for the two Jackbox Party Packs because everyone should own them.

Oh and everybody's talking about that Super Mega Baseball thing here and that's on sale, too.

thanks for the head's up! i got a few games i've only played on mac with a keyboard (Terraria and Rogue Legacy, which i'm assuming i will be able to do 100x better with a controller), along with super mega baseball & jackbox partypack 1

I finally got a PS4. Just finished Uncharted 4 which as good as terribly plotted climbing has ever looked.

I think I'll go for Witcher 3 next.

yeah a few times in my flatmate chatted to me while i was playing witcher 3 and i was incredibly embarrassed. that wasn't even during the boning scenes. i was caught between shame and the need to intently watch the cutscenes because i was engrossed in what was happening.

has anyone got the virtual reality thing or given it a go? i'm kinda tempted i have to say. reviews seem fairly positive.
