Oddly she emailed me a few days later saying she felt better and it wasn't my fault and she'd like to see me again.

ha! robust programming, that

oh i'm still playing this, its the only ps3 game i keep coming back to.

Ant Attack.. (Ste), Wednesday, 8 April 2009 15:58 (fifteen years ago) link

three leaf clover seems to be quite a trial. i think you actually have to be good at the game to win this mission.

mmmm space tang (stevie), Wednesday, 8 April 2009 16:05 (fifteen years ago) link

which mission is that?

goole, Wednesday, 8 April 2009 16:07 (fifteen years ago) link

the one with the bank job, and subsequent dramarama.

mmmm space tang (stevie), Wednesday, 8 April 2009 16:08 (fifteen years ago) link

oh yeah that one's fuckin wild.

wanna know a cheap way to win it?

goole, Wednesday, 8 April 2009 16:14 (fifteen years ago) link

I did that first time, not being a bragging douche, but a lot of people I talked/read posts of on forums had trouble with it.

I did find this easier than I seem to remember finding older GTAs, although SA was fucking years ago so I'm not sure how true this is.

mmmm space tang (stevie), Wednesday, 8 April 2009 16:38 (fifteen years ago) link

i got SA for xbla and the cars handle so easily its not really so much fun. i love the realistic physics of GTA4, even if it means the cars are (initially) harder to drive.

mmmm space tang (stevie), Wednesday, 8 April 2009 16:39 (fifteen years ago) link

no initially about it for me, i was still shit at driving when I finished Lost and the Damned!

"Hey, We're Clubbing!" (Police Squad) (jim), Wednesday, 8 April 2009 16:41 (fifteen years ago) link

switch to 'behind the windshield' view if you can, is much easier, and funner too

mmmm space tang (stevie), Wednesday, 8 April 2009 17:12 (fifteen years ago) link

yah i did the whole game driving 1st person. i never got used to the slightly-off-to-the-left 3rd person cameras

ok, that bank mission: 1st make sure you're all armored up and have plenty of the m16 ammo. grenades are handy too. for most of it there's no trick, you just have to shoot dudes in the head and keep moving etc. after you get into the subway and then "have to" come out again is the cheap part. the game wants you to jack a car and evade a 3-star wanted level, but you can just walk back down into the subway with your crew and jog north out of the flashing circle. it takes a while. once you get rid of the stars, come out at the nearest stop, hail a cab and go home.

The worst is when they shoot your tires. I always think, wow, why don't cops do that in real life more often?

Also, whenever I see Briggs bank security trucks leaving a real bank when I'm getting out of work, I think, wow, if only I had a rocket launcher and enough time to avoid the cops...

at the moment i'm enjoying standing in the baseball field on Bohan, and throwing grenades up onto the expressway above.

Does the DLC in this add the new weapons and games to the original GTA game? Haven't finished it but would like new stuff.

EMPIRE STATE HYMEN (MPx4A), Friday, 24 April 2009 12:49 (fifteen years ago) link

a new character, new missions, new weapons (which, i don't think, transfer back to the 'old' game) and new multiplayer modes. it is pretty ace.

greeheehee (stevie), Friday, 24 April 2009 12:58 (fifteen years ago) link

I've lost all of my save games (and for grid) thanks to the shitty xbox memory card managing to completely lose the data somewhere between jimd's house and mine.

FUCK YOU MICROSOFT, FUCK YOU MORE THAN EVER

Pro Creationism Soccer 2009 (ledge), Friday, 24 April 2009 13:10 (fifteen years ago) link

is there much difference in this game based on the choices you make? eg does everyone date the same women etc?

also does anyone else just totally abandon friends in favour of doing missions. it's so fucking boring driving to pick up jacob or someone and play some dumb as fuck subgame for 15 minutes when you could be murdering Irishmen.

Local Garda, Friday, 24 April 2009 19:12 (fifteen years ago) link

I traded this in towards Chinatown Wars and suggest that you all follow suit. it's roughly 1384384334343151 times better than GTA4 proper so far.

jamescobo, Friday, 24 April 2009 19:27 (fifteen years ago) link

Garda, if it pains you that much to drive across the islands, just hail a cab.

I think I beat the Three Leaf Clover mission on my first try too, or maybe my second -- not many, in any case. Very Heat like. /duh

Leee, Friday, 24 April 2009 21:35 (fifteen years ago) link

I just drove in a fast car for abou three minutes without taking my foot off the gas, finally got to the end of the northenmost motorway between the first two islands and rear ended the last car I saw at terrifying speed

it immediately burst into flames and the driver rocketed out of the windshield on fire

he thrashed around in blind panic, burning, for ages, and when his drop and roll finally worked his car exploded and made him do a little backflip; more cars came and blew themselves up in the process

I called an ambulance, but when the ambulance came the paramedic just irritably said "where's the patient?", because the man had struggled to his feet and was walking down the middle of the freeway into the sunset

then a taxi came and ran him over; I shot the taxi causing the driver to flee

the man continued to walk slowly into the distance; I followed him slowly while some evocative Jean Michel Jarre shit came out of the stereo

when I finally overtook him, I turned round and he had disappeared

the end

he advises having lots of save slots on the go in case you accidentally ding a car on the way to a mission

EMPIRE STATE HYMEN (MPx4A), Wednesday, 29 April 2009 12:43 (fifteen years ago) link

how do you complete some missions where you *have* to kill some dude?

Ant Attack.. (Ste), Wednesday, 29 April 2009 12:49 (fifteen years ago) link

ie the hospital mission, where you have to kill the guy in the bed

Ant Attack.. (Ste), Wednesday, 29 April 2009 12:50 (fifteen years ago) link

its by killing as few people as possible.

the guy is clearly a mentalist.

stchick (stevie), Wednesday, 29 April 2009 12:55 (fifteen years ago) link

there is no reward for doing the game in this way; it is "just for fun"

i'm still yet to use Dwaynes bodyguard option, but Dwayne himself is pretty handy - having knocked out a bouncer with one punch after a night out in the strip joint.

Ant Attack.. (Ste), Wednesday, 29 April 2009 17:38 (fifteen years ago) link

is dwayne the guy i killed, the guy whose swish penthouse i now live in?

stchick (stevie), Wednesday, 29 April 2009 18:02 (fifteen years ago) link

That's Playboy X, Dwayne should still be alive if he's dead.

88, Wednesday, 29 April 2009 19:50 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah, Dwaynes the big black guy who's 'been in the joint' and complains a lot/world owes him a favour etc.

funniest moment was when he rang me randomly saying he thought he heard his phone ringing while he was in the shower, thought it might be me.

Ant Attack.. (Ste), Wednesday, 29 April 2009 20:02 (fifteen years ago) link

Have really been getting into multiplayer on this. Has its downsides - glitches sometimes prevent otherwise obvious kills from occurring - but its still pretty great.

One thing that has racheted up the playability: We only play with far blips on. That way, you know SORT of where the other people are, but only outside of a 4 or 5 block radius. After that, you've got to actually hunt and kill them

Two Will Get You Three (B.L.A.M.), Wednesday, 29 April 2009 20:54 (fifteen years ago) link

aha, i know who dwayne is now!

stchick (stevie), Wednesday, 29 April 2009 22:05 (fifteen years ago) link

another pigeon bit the dust last night, yay

i spent some time on party mode, with no other players. this at least gives you oodles of free weapons, nice cars, and no police. gets boring after a while, but if you just wanna let rip with no hassle it's a good option.

Ant Attack.. (Ste), Friday, 1 May 2009 09:54 (fifteen years ago) link

fuck all the friends. fuck dwayne, fuck roman, fuck jacob, fuck everything except killing people and occasionally tearing across the city listening to "the journey" or "vibe".

Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Saturday, 2 May 2009 08:08 (fifteen years ago) link

i find the l&d dlc to be much better than the main game - i've been playing all the gang missions and races long after completing it all, whereas i just couldn't be fussed with the extra bits on the main game. plus it just looks better, that gritty fuzzy effect on the screen. absolutely love it, is there a standalone thread for it or is this the only one? it really should be released for ps3 and pc, it's criminal that not everyone can play this.

does anyone have any details about the next episode? i hope it has a rollercoaster mission, i keep seeing it on the horizon and wishing and hoping something would happen on it
