Need something new.

And no freemium shit. Fucking puzzle craft 2, disappointed in you.
― Jeff, Sunday, 13 September 2015 16:16 (ten years ago)
Pac-Man 256 is Crossy Road but for Pac-Man, superficially freemium but you can pay a reasonable $7.99 to just turn it into a normal game

I think Infinity Blade 3 is free at the moment? It was a couple of days ago, at least.
― JimD, Sunday, 13 September 2015 22:34 (ten years ago)
Yes, IB3 is free atm.
I dl'ed the new free star wars rpg. It's probably terrible.
I spend way too much time on crap like pixel people. I need to go back and finish Sorcery! 3 and Bastion.
80 Days is mandatory btw.
― BRAAAAAAMETHEUS (El Tomboto), Sunday, 13 September 2015 23:39 (ten years ago)
What's a reliable reviews site besides Touch Arcade? Because I am finding them kind of not reliable.
― BRAAAAAAMETHEUS (El Tomboto), Sunday, 13 September 2015 23:41 (ten years ago)
for strategy/roguelikes, pockettactics.com is great. they cover a lot of games that otherwise get little coverage.
― 1996 ball boy (Karl Malone), Monday, 14 September 2015 00:47 (ten years ago)
the rolling ios topic on neogaf is pretty good
― polyphonic, Monday, 14 September 2015 01:26 (ten years ago)
Trying it, but tbh, I like pacman CEDX better. Infinite anything makes me feel like an inevitable loser.
― Jeff, Monday, 14 September 2015 01:51 (ten years ago)
80 days is as good as the hype suggests. I enjoyed Sorcery 1 & 2 but have struggled with Sorcery 3.
― AlanSmithee, Monday, 14 September 2015 06:24 (ten years ago)
Ditto. I'm most of the way through but I'm like, why do I care about this time traveling dragon again? I also think the new rewind feature actually detracts from the experience. I believe 1 and 2 were more enjoyable because I really had the feeling that I had to put up with just surviving, not always re-trying to get the best possible result from a fight or decision series.
― BRAAAAAAMETHEUS (El Tomboto), Wednesday, 23 September 2015 22:45 (ten years ago)
Enjoying dream quest. Despite frustrations.
― Jeff, Wednesday, 23 September 2015 22:49 (ten years ago)
Any traditional graphic adventure game recommendations? Either in the LucasArts or Cyan vein. I don't care for plotless games -- I've tried room escapes and they don't do it for me.
― aaaaablnnn (abanana), Saturday, 26 September 2015 03:05 (ten years ago)
Played The Shivah recently. Very short (like an hour, not counting the multiple endings/achievements) but pretty decent for what you get, especially the updated version with voice acting. Love the premise/atmosphere.
― Nhex, Saturday, 26 September 2015 07:19 (ten years ago)
Star Wars: Uprising isn't particularly good but I keep playing it anyway. It feels like there is exactly enough stuff to do and you can change loadouts to keep the repetitive missions from being TOO repetitive, and while definitely buggy the bugs aren't enough to kill my enjoyment of it. It's just that there are no "wow" moments so far. That said, anybody want to start a cartel with me?

second downwell. i am having a great time with it, after overcoming some initial control issues (i'm playing on a 4s iphone so the move and jump buttons are relatively small and easy to miss at first)
― 1998 ball boy (Karl Malone), Friday, 16 October 2015 15:22 (ten years ago)
Yeah it's great, annoyingly so in fact.
― Fizzles, Friday, 16 October 2015 15:26 (ten years ago)
the descending/shooting downward theme works really well, and it also strikes a good balance between proceeding carefully and rushing downward (gems fly out of everything you destroy, but they careen downward and disappear after a certain amount of time so there's always an impulse to chase after them. plus, some enemies end up above you and are more difficult to destroy, so you end up fleeing).
i don't have a console anymore, but i imagine it would be even more fun with a good controller.
― 1998 ball boy (Karl Malone), Friday, 16 October 2015 15:29 (ten years ago)
Yep, that's it. Upgrades/shops work really well to keep you going too. I'm really shit at it.
― Fizzles, Friday, 16 October 2015 15:55 (ten years ago)
oh, didn't realize it was on Steam! Gonna give that version a go (and get a lot further, i hope)

since I started playing on my 5S instead of the iPad mini, I have come around to the idea that Star Wars: Uprising is a pretty okay game. Finally made it into some multiplayer missions today, made "lieutenant" on the latest "sector battle" and I feel stoked enough to post about it on this here ILX. I haven't paid a dollar and I've had quite a bit of fun along the way.
― BRAAAAAAMETHEUS (El Tomboto), Thursday, 22 October 2015 00:22 (ten years ago)
the cartel I finally joined is called the "NabooTang Clan" because I knew you would ask
the executive is so addictive.
also i know i've recommended it before but blades of brim is my really only go-to endless lane-change runner these days.
landsliders is fun in that crossy-road sorta vein.
i did like puzzle craft 2, but just finished it out entirely. (didn't find the freemium obnoxious at all in it tbh).
angry birds 2 i played a while and it was a disappointment, deleted it from my phone.
pixel boat was great for those who haven't played
― big WHOIS aka the nameserver (s.clover), Thursday, 22 October 2015 15:45 (ten years ago)
i pretty much only play miniclip games now. Been addicted to Soccer Stars for over a year. The bowling king one is fun. Billiards is ok.
― Spottie, Tuesday, 27 October 2015 21:07 (ten years ago)
So I deleted Star Wars Uprising (Sector Battle nonsense just served to reinforce the point that only whales who put $100s into the game are worthy) and started playing Spirit Wars instead - I've never had this experience before, I don't think, of realizing that Game B really is just a tawdry franchise skin of Game A. Spirit Wars is so far much more enjoyable btw.
― El Tomboto, Sunday, 6 December 2015 19:45 (ten years ago)
Monument valley free btw if anyone still doesn't have it.
― big WHOIS aka the nameserver (s.clover), Sunday, 6 December 2015 22:09 (ten years ago)
Spirit Lords update: I joined a guild in the Top 100 so I can get all the cool-Guild bonuses, and I think it's basically me and one person still playing. All the other members are inactive for 100+ days. I look forward to reviving my Uprising account this summer to find the same situation, so I can finally rank - maybe.

is that the one where the pieces have different abilities every playthrough?
― Karl Malone, Monday, 28 December 2015 15:45 (ten years ago)
i like the name
I mentioned it earlier in the thread, but am I the only one that has played Dream Quest? It's pretty much the only game I've played for the last 3 months. So addictive. I've beaten the dungeon with three of the character classes, working on the rest. So many people can't get past the horrible graphics though.
― Jeff, Monday, 28 December 2015 15:58 (ten years ago)
i keep meaning to check it out! downloading now.
in ancient iphone news, i finally played monument valley. i didn't like it (i think i'm the only one on earth). i mean the graphics are good and everything but they forgot to put a game in there. i guess i need the threat of permadeath.
― Karl Malone, Monday, 28 December 2015 16:03 (ten years ago)
I dl'd wizards and wagons b/c it sounded good on touch arcade and it is boring. I might try it again but the "combat sequences" are the pits.
I just want a good and simple and fast implementation of dopewars I think
― droit au butt (Euler), Monday, 28 December 2015 16:10 (ten years ago)
i permanently banned Touch Arcade from my life after it gave a glowing review of Dandy.
― Karl Malone, Monday, 28 December 2015 16:16 (ten years ago)
I'm super down on iOS gaming right now; don't have an iPad any more so big games like rct3 and balder's gate etc are off limits, and I'm terribly sick of games with little trickles of new characters and little else like crossy road. and stupid puzzle craft 2 and tap tycoon. why do I get looped into this crap? If I'm gonna be addicted to a game, let it be something totalizing that I can't think of anything and just want to keep playing, instead of "fuck in 6 hours I'll have to load up this game again and click some crap for 3 minutes and let the timers go". I guess this is just f2p (I don't spend money on f2p obv, except $20 one time on mpq pbuh).
a couple days ago dug out my ds and have been loving the oldies but goodies, but I'd like something good on the phone too.
― droit au butt (Euler), Monday, 28 December 2015 16:30 (ten years ago)
Most of the time, I won't even download a game if there are IAP. Especially if you look at them and it's bs like "bag full of jewels" or something of that ilk.
― Jeff, Monday, 28 December 2015 16:55 (ten years ago)
Been playing Leo's Fortune (on sale right now I think), and it's a nice mix of platforming and (pretty simple so far) puzzles.

i didn't really understand how this game was a 'puzzle' game, which was a shame, because the original concept seemed like it allowed for some of them. i mean, you have to engage your brain significantly more to get through an average sonic 2 level
― carly rae jetson (thomp), Tuesday, 29 December 2015 04:41 (ten years ago)
agree with karl and thomp re: monument valley.
think i love downwell in every way but it feels frustrating to play without three buttons... prefer turn-based on phone generally. only been completely consumed by threes and 868-HACK so far. hoplite also great. runners up for desert golf and other brough games
― home organ, Tuesday, 29 December 2015 04:54 (ten years ago)
some of the later MV levels were a bit puzzle-like, but mainly it was just sorta pretty and mellow.
messing with divide by sheep and rayman adventures these days
― big WHOIS aka the nameserver (s.clover), Tuesday, 29 December 2015 05:40 (ten years ago)
Furdemption on the iPad saved my Christmas.
― Chuck_Tatum, Sunday, 3 January 2016 13:56 (ten years ago)
dream quest is one of the best iOS games. if it had decent graphics, it would be huge. i'm not even a huge fan of CCG/hearthstone-style games and i've found it addicting
