Perhaps the funniest moment of the stream so far was when Twitch Plays Dark Souls equipped an item called the Darksign. When deployed, Darksign allows you to sacrifice whatever souls (aka experience points) you’ve accrued during a run in exchange for showing up at the last bonfire (aka save points). Twitch found itself unable to do anything but keep using Darksign.

Oh, so it looks like they have been pausing the game and then tallying up the votes before the next unpause. Kind of really cheating imo. Like anyone could probably beat Dark Souls if it paused every 10 seconds and you had a minute or two solid to consider every single move.

Maybe I have it wrong but it looks like what they are doing.

agree but the twitch pokemon did something similar. also even with pause its still hundreds of people fighting over the controller at every move

Yeah I think it is 100% cheating. I mean how many times have I died bc I couldn't pause the game and went to use the restroom or simply tab out and check my email? Not pausing IS the game.

i have def experienced the full gamut of no-pause kills: surprise monster kill, got invaded while getting a soda kill, and the super frustrating put my controller down and accidentally strafed off a cliff kill.

i invaded someone who was afk in Bloodborne last night, right before i had to leave the house. i killed him but now it occurs to me i should have just surrounded him with shiny coins and left without a trace.

since they got the pause/play element added, i can't really get into this anymore.

yeah, watching action-pause-action is far less weirdly compelling than watching them climb up and fall down a ladder in real time

can't be sure of course but i think o+s is the most time i have spent on a game boss. and after my first run i must've gone through the game min 4 times again and i think i first timed them each time. and it's not like there is some secret trick you have to figure out. v weird, maybe a psychological barrier thing.

yeah, i think the souls games are really effective at psyching players out with intimidating-looking bosses. Then, once you start to carefully searching out their weaknesses, you get the satisfaction of eventually taking them apart.

Still psyched out by the archer on that citadel tower over a year later.

that's the ultimate sweaty-palms moment, in a game that induces that sensation more often than any other I have played

otm. Helped all the more by the fact that you can't pause the game in Dark Souls.

Once they hacked the game to use pausing it ceased to be Dark Souls. They might as well just stick to Pokemon.

i peeked in on this to see what was up. they're pausing after every two or three seconds of gameplay and allowing a democratic vote for the next button push which takes about a minute. they're on the sanctuary guardian. looks pretty tedious, only 500 or so viewers.
