which city for GTA 5?

The other day, I ran up to a helicopter as it was landing and pulled the pilot out so I could steal it. I managed to get a couple of feet off the ground before he recovered and pulled me out of the helicopter. But because there was no one piloting the helicopter anymore, it fell on his leg and it trapped him and I kicked him to death.

I'm considering walking around the entire island. Wonder how many day/night cycles that would take.

Actually prob wouldn't be possible since when you load up the game you start back in your safe house. No way I could do the whole thing in one sitting.

Still feel like there's so much to see and discover though. The whole island is like a huge work of art that I want to take in leisurely.

No kidding. I dip in all the time and, although I have a pretty decent general sense of the geography at this point, I still keep stumbling upon things I never saw before.

Last night, I found a sweet spot for a standoff just inside a train tunnel where none of the cops could seem to get at me, except for the occasional SWAT dudes who would rappel from their helicopters only to be greeted by an explosive device at the bottom of their ropes. I kept it up for a full day of in-game time before I got bored and took a header into the gully below.

somewhere there's an online setting: start at safehouse or start at last location (iirc)

so i played through this recently finally, it sucks. nothing you do in it was fun. and i honestly don't get how people who have watched movies and tv shows before are genuinely impressed by the writing on this game. it sets up a basic, cliche conflict for each character and then just hammers on that for the whole fuckin game.and you're forced so many times to just drive for a long time and listen to trevor call michael a sellout snitch suburban dad again and again. and even in the last wet fart of a heist is padded out with shit like the whole 'steal three cars and drive them across the city to your garage' tasks. i was like, surely this isn't just a boring chore, maybe on the third car you get ambushed or something. no.
idk maybe ive just outgrown this series. they even fixed a bunch of the shitty gameplay elements that i hated in previous games.

I've spent about ten minutes on single player. Online is where it's at.

I honestly don't understand how anyone is impressed by the writing in 90% of games.

Yeah, I've seen some crazy hacker shit. Like everyone turning into weird animal mascots, everyone on the server being blown up simultaneously (which has happened a number of times). All the NPCs were obese for a stretch.

I've been spending my GTA online time these days stockpiling cash so that I can put bounties on shitheads with overtly racist nicknames. It's my way of giving back to the community.

been thinking about this game a lot. i haven't played games in about a year and a half, and this is the one i miss the most i think. i miss that environment! not the racist kids tho

I only noticed how lonely campaign gaming or playing multiplayer without knowing anyone is after I played a bit with some friends of mine at work. Hard to go back to going solo all the time IME.

This is still the only game I've played online. I think I like the idea way more in theory than I tend to in practice.

I miss it too, but I played it way too much.

Maybe I'll do this every decade, starting with GTA3 in 2004, this one in 2013, etc.

I was playing too late one night and these two guys with accents (to my American ears) got into it about something. Finally in a lull, the conversation went

GUY #1: So where you from? Sydney?

GUY #2: Yeah. You Kiwi?

GUY #1: Christchurch. Got you pretty good back there.

GUY #2: Go die in another fuckin' earthquake, why don't you.

I was in a GTA lobby once with a bunch of people who were all on audio chat (unlike me). At some point someone said something derogatory about native americans / first nations and a few other guys took offense, and it evolved in this long discussion about how one dude's uncle was an "indian" or that he himself was part indian and he didn't appreciate that, and all of these (white?!?!) guys with Minnesotan/Wisconsin accents (CAN'T TELL THE DIFFERENCE, SORRY) began to have this bizarre but heartening discussion about race and stereotypes. I wish I'd recorded it, it was super adorable, and very unlike the normal racist multiplayer experience.

Anyway I beat them all at racing. :)

I used to play Counterstrike as 'ger-onimo' and got shitloads of abuse from white Americans who assumed I was native American. I used to fake scalp their bodies with my knife after killing them.
