shenmue's reached its funding goals already

...also, a lot of things they had to make from scratch in the Dreamcast games are now easily inserted with game engines now.

can i do a kickstarter for beyond good and evil II?
― transparent play for gifs (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 16 June 2015 12:24 (eleven years ago)
they finally released a media player app for PS4 today. does handle MKV files but seems pretty bare bones - no NTFS support, no subs, no FLAC, no way to change aspect ratio etc.
― ( X '____' )/ (zappi), Tuesday, 16 June 2015 12:26 (eleven years ago)
gee thanks sony, my ps4 is now capable of some of the things my ps3 has been able to do for nearly a decade now
― bizarro gazzara, Tuesday, 16 June 2015 12:30 (eleven years ago)
except neither can do subs smh

― bizarro gazzara, Tuesday, 16 June 2015 13:03 (eleven years ago)
at least the server i ran for my ps3 could transcode everything :/
― Who M the best? (Will M.), Tuesday, 16 June 2015 14:59 (eleven years ago)
(which maybe allowed subs? i can't remember)
― Who M the best? (Will M.), Tuesday, 16 June 2015 15:00 (eleven years ago)
yeah, that would be the way to go. i haven't tried it but I assume PS4 can at least do standard DLNA (whatever) streaming
― Nhex, Tuesday, 16 June 2015 16:18 (eleven years ago)
onyl streaming option i could find before this was plex and it was of course plex premium only
like i am going to pay more money to stream my fucking files

you can run plex through the PS4 browser without the need for premium. you get memory leaks if you try to use subtitles though, for some weird reason

I'm cautiously optimistic about Hellblade- the developers have a decent track record with Enslaved and the Devil May Cry reboot, and this almost looks like Valhalla Rising: The Game:

$100? for one in-game vehicle?
― polyphonic, Monday, 27 July 2015 18:47 (ten years ago)
looks like six in-game vehicles, but fuck that in the eye
― you are extreme, Patti LuPone. (forksclovetofu), Monday, 27 July 2015 18:56 (ten years ago)
Nope, $100... for SIX EXP-boosting in-game vehicles! And 30 days of "Premium" account EXP boost on top of that.So no, maybe not the best use of your money, but hardly unusual for these days of F2P whale nets.
― Nhex, Monday, 27 July 2015 18:57 (ten years ago)
a hundred dollars! for +six vehicles?
who are the ad wizards who etc.

fyi Resogun is still a ton of fun
― I Am Curious (Dolezal) (DJP), Monday, 10 August 2015 17:48 (ten years ago)
agreed, Resogun is great; also worth picking up on Vita if you're the other person who bought one of those things (I think it's cross-buy anyway). I am very bad at it and always end up dying after I forget to use my bombs but it sure is a bunch of fun.

we have been having a lot of fun with goat simulator. such a genius thing.
― scott seward, Sunday, 16 August 2015 20:23 (ten years ago)
i bought shadow of mordor game but i forgot that i kinda suck at games like that...very cool game though...
― scott seward, Sunday, 16 August 2015 20:24 (ten years ago)
i'm also like 64th in the world on resogun:demolition mode. and i don't think i will ever beat my high score. it's too high! like 200+ million.
― scott seward, Sunday, 16 August 2015 20:26 (ten years ago)
wait, i lied, my demolition score is 133 million. which is still way higher than i've gotten since. and that score was quite a while ago.
i have to face facts about survival mode though. i'm a solid 1 billion player, but i'm just not enough of a gamer to take it to the next level. or not young enough. one or the other.
― scott seward, Sunday, 16 August 2015 20:46 (ten years ago)
finally got Last Of Us and jeeeeezus i am bad at stealth :-( i am sort of in awe at how wilfully difficult this thing is, and i'm only on normal mode. can imagine a fuckload of people just giving up and i'm only in the boston stages.
― jamiesummerz, Monday, 17 August 2015 09:45 (ten years ago)
stealth only takes you so far though. from my memory there are some sections that seem stealthy at first but require shiv'ing and straight up melee/gunplay to get through?
that said, near the end there is a dreadfully hard bit in an old factory where you are surrounded by all types of clicker and runner and somehow, on hard setting, i realized i could actually stealth through the entire thing in about 12 seconds. the first time through, on normal, i tried a combo of stealth/shooting and it took me half a day to get out.
― transparent play for gifs (Tracer Hand), Monday, 17 August 2015 16:23 (ten years ago)
yeah its usually pretty hard to work out the obvious way to do a situation - I went through an early part about 50 times one evening dying very quickly every time... next day i chucked two molotovs and was out.
anyway, in Lincoln now and its a bit less ballbreaking!
― jamiesummerz, Tuesday, 18 August 2015 08:34 (ten years ago)
Super Meat Boy and Broken Age for PS+ this month; I am curious to give Broken Age a spin.
― Meta Forksclove-Liebeskind (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 30 September 2015 23:51 (ten years ago)
there's not really many GAMES for this system you know? Like over a year later, it's still sparse for anything that wasn't on the last gen hardware. You got Metal Gear V, Rocket League, Bloodborne, Witcher III, GTA V, Shadow of Mordor, Arkham Knight, 20 games that are basically PS3 upgrades and um...
― Meta Forksclove-Liebeskind (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 30 September 2015 23:57 (ten years ago)
WiiU has like three times that many interesting exclusives. it's not nice but i really wish nintendo would give up the ghost and follow sega into full time software for all consolesjust, you know, maintain the quality better.
― Meta Forksclove-Liebeskind (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 1 October 2015 00:00 (ten years ago)
1) shenmue kickstarted 6.3 million dollars.2) you really DO need to get two joysticks: 1 to play and 1 to charge and switch out. i have run out of juice on a fully charged joystick in a single session. they are good joysticks otherwise and the extra controller sorta overrules that complaint imo.
― Meta Forksclove-Liebeskind (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 1 October 2015 00:10 (ten years ago)

Well apart from Rocket League you're only listing AAAs and platform exclusive AAAs are never going to be common again I expect (plus you missed killzone, driveclub, infamous, LBP3, The Order, a few other biggies). PS4 still has a pretty decent smattering of B and C list stuff that's platform exclusive and decent (ok only Everybody's Gone to the Rapture springs to mind but I'm sure there's plenty of others like it). I mean I agree that it kind of feels like there's not much around but actually I think it's doing about as well as most new consoles do as they go into their 2nd christmas.
Bought the dual pad charging dock because yep, you're right, you always need one on charge and I hate having wires constantly hanging out of the front of the machine (especially when the charging pad on the end of it keeps throbbing orange) but my WIFE and CHILD keep FAILING to put the DEAD PADS back on the DOCK and GNNNNNYYYYYYYAAAAH.
