how long does YOUMUSTBUILDA BOATgo on for? I am loving it (a bit too much) but enjoyed that finite structure for 100000000 - 'you will be addicted for this comparatively brief length of time, but you will be completely addicted'. YMBAB feels like it might go on for ages.

I feel the opposite! I'm afraid I'm close to the end. I don't want it to end.

there's only one map. It felt too short to me almost. There were only like a couple quests I had to sink more than a couple runs into.

Peggle Blast is SO INFURIATINGLY FREEMIUM, like just let me pay $4 for an entire really solid fucking game! Stop designing impossibly difficult levels and then making me wait 30 minutes between lives w/ the option of spending IRL money on more! This is fucking gross.

within the last 24 hours the team behindPac-Man C.E has enabled MFI pads on iOS, which is a great way to play it with butan if you don't have and a Vita and want to play this game on the go (in the "lounging in your hotel room wherever" context or the "on the flight to wherever" context, not in the "on the bus to work" context) this is probably now your best bet. here's an article w/ more info:
https://www.afterpad.com/pac-man-championship-edition-dx-released-with-mfi-controller-support
seriously, the Hori MFi gamepad is worth it just for this game; it is also worth it for Oceanhorn and Bastion and Wayward Sword and Sonic CD and Traps & Gemstones natively supporting it as well. all the http://www.builds.io 3mu1a+0rZ (which somehow get signed and are therefore playable on all firmware versions without jailbreaking) all support MFi too if that is relevant to your interests. it's a really nice pad (despite all outward appearances) and it seriously just works, buy it for yourself next time you need to get yourself a gift or whatever.
I'm babbling now, time for bed

I'd consider it for like 20 but $80 is just like gotdamn! I've just been playing emus on my Nexus 7 and the touch screen controls are surprisingly great, at least for what I'm playing (p much just RPGs, who can say when I try to play, like, DKC at some point)

to anyone out there with an iPad Mini looking for a good physical-button controller setup, I cannot endorse the Gamevice vigorously enough; it's essentially an MFi enclosure that you snap your iPad into which turns it into a Wii U Gamepad minus the console. the ergonomics are phenomenal for laying in bed and playing stuff (I would LOVE to be able to use the triggers to flip between pages in a Kindle book or Instapaper article, or the controls to scroll up and down a long webpage, so that I don't have to paw at the screen as much), and the d-pad & face buttons feel JUST right for 3mulat0rz. I really don't ever want to take my Mini out of this thing; I may actually use it as an excuse to upgrade to a new Air as my new main tablet. the Horipad I posted about a while back is a better choice if you're looking for a traditional standalone controller, but at this point I suspect that I'll only ever use it to play games on an iPad when I'm on the road in the future.
it also gives me another reason to beg 2K Games to make Sid Meier's Pirates a lot more playable just by exploiting existing assets to add MFi support - I can absolutely lose myself in this game when I play it with physical controls (i.e. the PSP or 360 versions), but find touch controls to interfere with my ability to just enjoy it. as far as I know, the only way to play Pirates with butan available anymore is on the PSP version which is only available on the Euro store for some reason, so I'm dying for this to happen. (you CAN play it using the builds.io PSP emulator, although it runs really janky.)
in other news, I've been playing a bunch of Wayward Sword lately and like it a bunch; it feels like a less obtuse La-Mulana (or perhaps a less punishing Spelunky).
― grinding like a jolly elf (jamescobo), Saturday, 15 August 2015 05:41 (ten years ago)
That's cool, I really would like to try something like that but I'm not sure what I would play. I end up playing board games and puzzles on iPad because they're the only things that really suit the interface. I don't really game on iPhone, even the 6 is too small to enjoy a game (also constant notifications, from which my iPad is firewalled).

― Jeff, Sunday, 13 September 2015 16:16 (ten years ago)
Pac-Man 256 is Crossy Road but for Pac-Man, superficially freemium but you can pay a reasonable $7.99 to just turn it into a normal game

I think Infinity Blade 3 is free at the moment? It was a couple of days ago, at least.
― JimD, Sunday, 13 September 2015 22:34 (ten years ago)
Yes, IB3 is free atm.
I dl'ed the new free star wars rpg. It's probably terrible.
I spend way too much time on crap like pixel people. I need to go back and finish Sorcery! 3 and Bastion.
80 Days is mandatory btw.

Trying it, but tbh, I like pacman CEDX better. Infinite anything makes me feel like an inevitable loser.
― Jeff, Monday, 14 September 2015 01:51 (ten years ago)
80 days is as good as the hype suggests. I enjoyed Sorcery 1 & 2 but have struggled with Sorcery 3.
― AlanSmithee, Monday, 14 September 2015 06:24 (ten years ago)
Ditto. I'm most of the way through but I'm like, why do I care about this time traveling dragon again? I also think the new rewind feature actually detracts from the experience. I believe 1 and 2 were more enjoyable because I really had the feeling that I had to put up with just surviving, not always re-trying to get the best possible result from a fight or decision series.

Any traditional graphic adventure game recommendations? Either in the LucasArts or Cyan vein. I don't care for plotless games -- I've tried room escapes and they don't do it for me.
― aaaaablnnn (abanana), Saturday, 26 September 2015 03:05 (ten years ago)
Played The Shivah recently. Very short (like an hour, not counting the multiple endings/achievements) but pretty decent for what you get, especially the updated version with voice acting. Love the premise/atmosphere.
― Nhex, Saturday, 26 September 2015 07:19 (ten years ago)
Star Wars: Uprising isn't particularly good but I keep playing it anyway. It feels like there is exactly enough stuff to do and you can change loadouts to keep the repetitive missions from being TOO repetitive, and while definitely buggy the bugs aren't enough to kill my enjoyment of it. It's just that there are no "wow" moments so far. That said, anybody want to start a cartel with me?
