the community put together a really nice patch for DS1 on PC. fixes most, if not all, issues people had with the port.

one month passes...

!!!

Namco will announce Dark Souls 3 at E3, a source familiar with the matter has told VG247.

In news guaranteed to delight fans of the series, Demon’s Souls, Dark Souls and Bloodborne director Hidetaka Miyazaki is again heading the team.

Miyazaki, the father of the Souls series, moved onto a supervisory role for Dark Souls 2. Tomohiro Shibuya and Yui Tanimura co-directed the sequel.

The platform to be used for the announcement is as yet unknown, but our source guessed the title may come during Sony’s E3 press conference on the Californian evening of Monday, June 15.

We received no specific details of the game itself.

Dark Souls 2 settled two points higher on Metacritic than the original, but some fans and reviewers disparaged the sequel over the fairness of its approach to Souls’ trademark ultra-hard difficulty level.

Series-watchers may be shocked at the announcement’s timing: Sony dev boss Shuhei Yoshida confirmed in late May that Bloodborne is to be expanded, and that more details will be announced “later this year”.

E3 takes place in Los Angeles on the week commencing June 15. We’ve reached out to Namco for comment.

Feel like the new Flying Saucer Attack also being announced today is super appropriate.

Dark Souls playing as Ceaseless Discharge and unleashing the lava demon giant's might against several foes. What is to be able to control such a huge boss and be as powerful as hell? Watch how Ceaseless Discharge protects my character in my custom mini game - Player protector. In this video I moved Kirk Knight (Invader) to the arena of Ceaseless Discharge and left my player uncontrolled while taking control of Ceaseless Discharge. The goal of my custom mission is to beat Kirk before he kills your character since there is no way for AI to fight Ceaseless Discharge back - since it will fall to death trying to reach him, so I left my character as a bait and and had to protect it with Ceaseless Discharge.

Dark Souls III will release next year for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and possibly PC
1-4 players, as in past games
10 classes, 45 new enemies, and 15 bosses (returning foes aren't counted in those figures)
12 areas equaling an amount of content similar to the first Dark Souls
60 minutes of cut scenes, most of which are in-engine
"Sacrifice Ceremonies" can be used to visit other players' worlds
Bonfires can be created by sacrificing
A "Heat Up" mechanic can be used to alter bosses (as shown in the boss screenshots below -- that's the same dude, apparently)
There's something called "Sword Fighting Arts," including moves like "Rush In" and "Circle"

sounds more like more of a cash grab but hopefully the construction and care will still be there.

As long as it's better than Dark Souls 2 I'm all in.

day one buy of course; they've yet to disappoint and i prefer the aesthetic and game play of dark souls over bloodbourne

like a giraffe of nah (forksclovetofu), Monday, 15 June 2015 18:24 (eleven years ago)

the apparent scale of the bad guy in the trailer was giving me shadow of the colossus vibes

YESSSS been playing through the first 2 a bunch and they are great but don't really look the best. A Bloodborne-level of graphical polish plus combat tweaks would be sweeeet.

Hah it is US Independence Day and I spent half the day playing this Japanese videogame.

I am doing a sorcery-only run. It's pretty fun, and a different way to play if you've already played through. Some parts are harder, some are easier. Got into a magic arrow battle with another magician in the forest earlier that was so cool!

Neil S, Thursday, 23 July 2015 20:06 (ten years ago)

i still have the free Games W/Gold version of this sitting on my hard-drive but I have not yet touched it. Dare I?

I am p shitty at video games tbh

Credit: howtokeepapositiveattitudedotcom (stevie), Monday, 27 July 2015 13:19 (ten years ago)

yeah, definitely. in a lot of ways i find the difficulty level of the souls games much easier to take than others because pretty much every time you die you'll know exactly what you did wrong and have an idea of what you might be able to do differently the next time. it's tough but fair, and it's a great teacher - you'll find yourself coming back to areas you struggled with before and breeze through them because you've become a much better player in the interim.

bizarro gazzara, Monday, 27 July 2015 13:25 (ten years ago)

also, dark souls is flat-out the most atmospheric and engaging game i've ever played - it's worth giving it a shot just for the experience of exploring the world

bizarro gazzara, Monday, 27 July 2015 13:26 (ten years ago)

yeah just give it a try stevie, being good/bad at games is p much immaterial, no one is waltzing thru these games, but i think most ppl who try find the core gameplay fun enough to mitigate the frustrations until you have more of a handle on it.

Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 27 July 2015 13:30 (ten years ago)

one more thing: if you find you're not getting on with the game, try another character build - it's amazing how much putting points into different stats can palpably affect the experience of playing

bizarro gazzara, Monday, 27 July 2015 13:34 (ten years ago)

okay, cheers dudes, i shall go on in later this week!
