KAIROSOFT GAMES/SIM GAMES IN GEN: plz s/d!!
Game Dev Story is my jam right now and I wanna get some more sims. I don't like how freemium Tiny Tower is and I was kinda unimpressed w/ Hot Springs Story.
I hear Mega Mall is good, which looks SimTowery which I love. What are the best Kairo games to get? Is there anything vaugely reminiscent of RollerCoaster Tycoon (i.e. you have some land and you have to make cool stuff happen and paths and people and all of that)?

I think Grand Prix Story is closest in gameplay to Game Dev. Design cars, see how they perform on the track, unlock upgrades. I enjoyed it. Pocket Academy was fun, too.
A lot of Kairosoft games get too samey for me. Their more recent city/town-building games have been like that.

I'm at the point in Game Dev Story where I'm 15 years in, I always have at least 50 to 100 million in the bank at all times, every game I make gets Hall of Fame'd and hits #1 in sales.

mega mall story is fun but I feel like there are things I'm missing
i.e. should I be adding all these new features to my stores? Because I'm not all that much, and it seems to be making very little difference.
should I be building multiples of the same store and if so how far apart? If they're on adjacent floors will that kill business?

just got a 5-star mall by y9 m7 w4; felt like I just coasted and that so many of all of the little intricacies (adding features to stores, hiring ppl based on the types of stores that they boost, having sales, escalators and elevators and most of the facilities, etc) were entirely inconsequential, which makes it seem like a pretty flimsy game
― Jennifer 8. ( (Stevie D(eux)), Tuesday, 13 January 2015 19:36 (eleven years ago)

― Jennifer 8. ( (Stevie D(eux)), Tuesday, 13 January 2015 19:37 (eleven years ago)
yep. i've played 4 or 5 different kairosoft games and they all feel the same. there's always a nice golden age of playtime about 2-3 hours in (or 3-5 "years" into the game i guess) where things are really fun, and then it just fizzles.
game dev story and the rpg ones were my favorite, but that mainly just comes down to subject matter preferences.

this may lean too far in the other direction of complexity, but you might check out pocket tactics.com, specifically their reviews section and best of 2014 and 2013 awards. they might lean a little bit too much toward wargames and WWII simulators and stuff like that, but they also review a good amount of unique strategy/tactics games that you probably wouldn't hear about otherwise.

The thing I especially liked about Hot Springs was that it was kind of a feng shui game ... it's really about placing the right objects near each other to make the space more harmonious, as well as trying to find a balance that appeals to different demographics. It's not deep in implementation but the idea is really fun imo. Mega Mall and the restaurant one borrow some of those ideas but Hot Springs does it best.
I always wanted to try Oh Edo Towns but never got around to it. Anyone played that one? Or the cruise ship one?
