I'm up to hole 150/shot 435 on desert golf. I'd be doing a lot better but I had a catastrophic 40-50 shot hole on one drunken evening.

yeah, increasingly as the game goes on the most compelling thing is trying to mentally divide # of shots by the hole # to figure out what my shots/hole score is.

I don't remember when I got that hole but I do remember it. Then again I'm past hole 1000 now and they're all kind of merging together in my head now.A hole in one is certainly possible but you'd need to get it just right with the bounce off the hill. The other option is to chip it to the bottom of the hill and take a couple of shots to roll it up to the hole.Anything with a high parabola is doomed to a disaster though.

chip it all the way up the hill with horizontal strokes; the ball will lie at an angle and not roll back if you hit it right

What makes it such a dreadful appeal to want to download and play desert golfing now? I mean, I've been forewarned by you guys... Thinking of getting to 600+ levels and the time it must consume makes me reject the notion and feel bad already without having even hit one ball. And yet, and yet... Do I hate life?

KAIROSOFT GAMES/SIM GAMES IN GEN: plz s/d!!
Game Dev Story is my jam right now and I wanna get some more sims. I don't like how freemium Tiny Tower is and I was kinda unimpressed w/ Hot Springs Story.
I hear Mega Mall is good, which looks SimTowery which I love. What are the best Kairo games to get? Is there anything vaugely reminiscent of RollerCoaster Tycoon (i.e. you have some land and you have to make cool stuff happen and paths and people and all of that)?

I think Grand Prix Story is closest in gameplay to Game Dev. Design cars, see how they perform on the track, unlock upgrades. I enjoyed it. Pocket Academy was fun, too.
A lot of Kairosoft games get too samey for me. Their more recent city/town-building games have been like that.

mega mall story is fun but I feel like there are things I'm missing
i.e. should I be adding all these new features to my stores? Because I'm not all that much, and it seems to be making very little difference.
should I be building multiples of the same store and if so how far apart? If they're on adjacent floors will that kill business?

just got a 5-star mall by y9 m7 w4; felt like I just coasted and that so many of all of the little intricacies (adding features to stores, hiring ppl based on the types of stores that they boost, having sales, escalators and elevators and most of the facilities, etc) were entirely inconsequential, which makes it seem like a pretty flimsy game

yep. i've played 4 or 5 different kairosoft games and they all feel the same. there's always a nice golden age of playtime about 2-3 hours in (or 3-5 "years" into the game i guess) where things are really fun, and then it just fizzles.
game dev story and the rpg ones were my favorite, but that mainly just comes down to subject matter preferences.
