(the snow is only on the Online mode btw)

Ah ok. Thought it was some kind of temporary patch for the story mode. Would have been cool
― licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Thursday, 25 December 2014 11:57 (eleven years ago)
the snow looks great.
are the multiplayer load times any better?
― calstars, Thursday, 25 December 2014 12:15 (eleven years ago)
Never much played multiplayer so I can't compare really. Seems reasonable though.
Seriously though, I know they did the snow thing last xmas but it seems hugely improved this time around. Wish they could incorporate as a cheat code for single player, maybe at some point later perhaps.

Actually enjoying a bit of online action, it's a lot more open once you get past rank 5.
But parachute landing is still fucking annoying, I land perfectly in the centre of the targets but because of stupid animations it moves me 5 more metres out of range.
― Drop soap, not bombs (Ste), Thursday, 25 December 2014 14:46 (eleven years ago)
Are you sure you aren't coming in too hot
― polyphonic, Thursday, 25 December 2014 18:13 (eleven years ago)
Had shoulder buttons pressed for a while, so should have been slowest
― Drop soap, not bombs (Ste), Thursday, 25 December 2014 18:25 (eleven years ago)
it's also about horizontal speed vs. vertical i think.
― polyphonic, Thursday, 25 December 2014 18:34 (eleven years ago)
have they announced the date for pc release of 1st person? playing that using mouse & keys seems like it could be next step toward the ultimate STALKER game
― NI, Thursday, 25 December 2014 21:01 (eleven years ago)
After some sessions on jobs I would have to answer. No.
― Drop soap, not bombs (Ste), Thursday, 25 December 2014 21:23 (eleven years ago)
Awful loading times for jobs. And it's crashed twice today, it's never crashed on single player mode in the past year and a half.
― Drop soap, not bombs (Ste), Thursday, 25 December 2014 21:24 (eleven years ago)
Yeah, they haven't quite stablized online enough yet, so I've been slowly replaying single player for the most part. I've also been struggling with the controls a bit. If you accidentally brush L1 while reaching for L2 you disarm yourself. In the heat of battle this has fucked me so many times.
― polyphonic, Thursday, 25 December 2014 21:38 (eleven years ago)
lol I'm such a noob at this. Jobs are all a mystery to me, no idea what's going on. Everyone else on rank one million.
Blimey Goole, you're rank 220 ?!
― Drop soap, not bombs (Ste), Friday, 26 December 2014 01:04 (eleven years ago)
yeah i was pretty zoned in on this for a while
― goole, Friday, 26 December 2014 04:04 (eleven years ago)
How do I get in as a passenger? I just keep dragging people out of their vehicles
― Drop soap, not bombs (Ste), Friday, 26 December 2014 12:26 (eleven years ago)
in what context? 1p? mp?
― goole, Saturday, 27 December 2014 02:29 (eleven years ago)
mp
― Drop soap, not bombs (Ste), Saturday, 27 December 2014 09:11 (eleven years ago)
for instance just trying to get in as passenger with other players
― Drop soap, not bombs (Ste), Saturday, 27 December 2014 11:57 (eleven years ago)
you have to go to the passenger side door iirc
― gbx, Saturday, 27 December 2014 16:04 (eleven years ago)
Hmm, not sure how that would work for bikes though

After months of prompting from my brother, I finally started playing this about two weeks ago (GTA Online, specifically...I've still barely touched V). I think I'm kinda okay at it so far but nowhere near as good as these teenagers who've clearly grown up playing sniper simulators. All of the cars I've tried drive like ass so I generally stick to riding motorcycles. It's super fun to rip up and down mountains at top speed.
With respect to free play, I've slowly taken up the mantle of the Low-Level Avenger. Almost every time I sign on, I see these level 100+ chumps stalking people who have clearly just recently started playing. So, whenever possible, I try to take the upper-level dudes out. I mean, I usually get my ass handed to me (sometimes a half dozen times in a row, I'm still only at like level 32 myself) but it's been a good skill-building exercise. And on the occasion that I collect a bounty on a lower-level dude, I'll toss him a percentage of the reward to show that it's nothing personal.
I hate (HATE) the flying in this game. I was pretty good with the helicopters in GTA IV but I barely have any idea what I'm doing in this game. And the planes are a complete joke. I tried flight school but when I saw that the first lesson was loop-the-loops, I promptly gave up on that idea.
This is my first online gaming experience. The intensity of knowing I'm hunting or being hunted by real people (or avatars thereof) is both thrilling and nerve-wracking. I'm starting to feel like I need to implement post-GTA Katamari cool-down sessions.
I joined the ILG crew (OldLuncheonette) but I'm sure most of you guys have moved on to greener pastures by now.

You definitely don't need to do this. I don't think anyone has ever given me a dime.
when I saw that the first lesson was loop-the-loops...
The flight instruction in GTA V's story starts from a simpler place. I think there is some assumption that people won't dig into Online until after they finish the story, which is why it starts with more advanced techniques. In the story mode the first lesson is how to take off. Similarly the Story mode has a tutorial on how to do basic controls whereas online doesn't.
― polyphonic, Monday, 12 January 2015 22:30 (eleven years ago)
Yeah the flight school in online is waay more tougher and hellish than the story one.
― Drop soap, not bombs (Ste), Monday, 12 January 2015 22:32 (eleven years ago)
i think i posted this upthread but the online flying races were a p good place to rack up wins, everyone is just so bad that taking a calm and level-headed approach usually guaranteed a win, it was never even close most of the time

yeah that video is batshitas a rule, I am not into watching videos of people destroy their lives and the lives of people around them (dude pretty clearly gets shot at the end of the chase) but that entire sequence is so OTT

Heists (along with a whoooole bunch of other stuff, from the looks of it) go live today.

― goole, Tuesday, 10 March 2015 22:29 (eleven years ago)
seriously this is great:
Next Job Voting Screen
There are now 2 pages of jobs down from 3.
The first page will display only Jobs of the same type you just finished playing, including a “Random” option. For example, if you just finished playing Rooftop Rumble, only Missions will appear on the new first page, and you will have a “Random Mission” option.
The second page will show a random selection of jobs, similar to how the Next Job Voting Screen works now, to allow players to change Job types if desired.

So now I'm done with this Rockstar decide it's finally time to fix the annoying drive by shooting control. Nice one.
Also, anyone else got the glitch where if they try to read emails on their phone it just makes the phone twist a bit and then you're stuck?
― Drop soap, not bombs (Ste), Thursday, 12 March 2015 22:28 (eleven years ago)
that phone glitch happens on one of my saves but not on another, who knows

Heists. You can't do them unless you have all four roles filled. So you just wait and wait. You finally get a third person ... and the second person drops out. Then an hour later you get a full group and discover your heistmates are garbage.
Or you join a random heist and keep getting stuck in a boring setup mission, or the team leader doesn't want to pay you anything ...
The missions are pretty fun and challenging if you can actually get a good group together, but man.

Successfully completed my first heist last night. Satisfying. Also feels good to get some additional value out of this game. I finished the storyline a long time, and always planned to come back after awhile and get into online.
Continually trying to get used to the neighborhoods and distinct areas, but there is so much area to explore. And the night / day scheme just adds more variety.
