The Jackbox Party Pack (or two of the five games in the Party Pack, anyway) was a total hit with the family over Christmas. Highly recommend Fibbage at the very least (Drawful is pretty great, too).

Yak and Rogue Legacy are cool
i have to say that at this point, since i now own (am "renting") like 25 interesting games for a vita and the same for PS4, I am sorely tempted to buy more hardware for more games i won't play.

the plight of y0landa (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 3 February 2015 21:54 (nine years ago) link

Yakuza 4 is like 22gigs, tho, so that download gunna take a while. Thief 4 going from next-gen platform seller to free game less than a year after its delayed release is kinda disappointing, but fits entirely in line with how disappointing all the reactions to that game were. And I say this as someone who _loves_ Thief 1 & 2.

But we have Dishonored now, so that helps.

Delbert Gravy (kingfish), Thursday, 5 February 2015 08:37 (nine years ago) link

the disappointing reaction to this thief is less disappointing in the sense that, unlike the others, it isn't very good.

bizarro gazzara, Thursday, 5 February 2015 09:15 (nine years ago) link

wait, hang on, that's what you were saying. that's what i get for posting before coffee.

Between PS+ free games, crossbuy on PS3 games I've bought, and super cheap games I've bought during sales because why not, I realized I have >100 games I can play on the Vita that I still don't own, so it might be time for me to just pull the trigger already.

Just got a Dualshock 3 for PC gaming after my one-year experiment with the Xbox 360 Afterglow controller finally ground to an end. I had problems with the controller getting unplugged while still being plugged in and I lay the blame on the stupid patch cable it makes use of. Actually this controller stopped worker 6 months ago but I bought a new patch cable and it seemed to fix things. Then last week it died on me again and just would not start.

After just one day of playing and now I just feel stupid for giving Microsoft any of my money in the first place for a game controller. Everything about the DS3 is yards ahead of the Xbox controller, from the less monstrous size to the lighter weight to the nice clicky feel of the buttons to the fact that I can use any standard USB cord. Installing Motioninjoy took me 10 minutes and instantly everything worked with it, from my emulators to new releases like Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes. Seriously screw M$, eff this patch cable racket, good riddance.

Huh. I've been thinking about switching from a 360 controller to a DS3 for PC games, I've actually always got on fine with the wireless 360 pad and the crossfire adaptor, but I liked the idea of dropping the dongle and going with bluetooth for laptop use. I couldn't get motioninjoy to recognise my dual shock at all though, and didn't try long before giving up. Maybe I'll go back to it and try updating my BT drivers or something.

JimD, Monday, 9 February 2015 11:58 (nine years ago) link

Oh wait were you using the DS3 wired instead of wireless? I guess it's probably easier that way but it'd be a step backwards from what I'm using already.

JimD, Monday, 9 February 2015 12:01 (nine years ago) link

Yeah I'm using it wired. Baby steps. I probably should get a BT dongle and try that but not yet. It hasn't been completely chill. DS3Tool doesn't work sometimes but all I have to do is restart and it seems to fix things.

©Oz Quiz© (Adam Bruneau), Monday, 9 February 2015 16:31 (nine years ago) link

It can connect via Bluetooth quite easily if your over has that capability

the plight of y0landa (forksclovetofu), Monday, 9 February 2015 17:15 (nine years ago) link

Does the PS4 controller work in this way? I don't like the PS3 one very much.

polyphonic, Monday, 9 February 2015 18:48 (nine years ago) link

the best thing about the PS4 is you can route all audio out via the dualshock.

South Park: The Stick of Truth got a permanent price drop to $5 on PSN. That's probably cheap enough for me to add to the backlog, but is it cheap enough for me to accept the idiotic racism? I'm not sure...

I picked up Klonoa, BOF IV and the Wild Arms games just for kicks. No idea if any of them are good or hold up today
hmm. tempted to get Persona 4 but considering my aborted intentions to even start Persona 3...

Nhex, Monday, 23 March 2015 06:16 (nine years ago) link

I tried playing Persona 4 and could not get into it, and I love RPGs. I do not understand the hype.

©Oz Quiz© (Adam Bruneau), Monday, 23 March 2015 15:46 (nine years ago) link

Katamari is all-time great tho. I wonder what a current-gen version would look like.

©Oz Quiz© (Adam Bruneau), Monday, 23 March 2015 15:47 (nine years ago) link

I love Katamari so much that I bought the Vita-compatible Katamari games when they were on sale, despite the fact that I do not yet own a Vita.

I love Katamari so much that I bought Noby Noby Boy sight unseen and without hesitation. Maybe not the best choice I've ever made.

poxy fülvous (abanana), Monday, 23 March 2015 19:03 (nine years ago) link

Wild Arms and Suikoden really helped define the PS1 era to me. I never played the later games in either series but supposedly the quality largely held up.

fields of salmon, Thursday, 26 March 2015 01:26 (nine years ago) link

Suikoden 3 is supposedly the best, but I got distracted during my playthru and dropped off.

Jumped on Person 4 for $5.

The Thin Blue Slime (kingfish), Thursday, 26 March 2015 07:35 (nine years ago) link

Idk if I'd say Suiko3 is the best. For me it goes something like 1>2>5>3>4. Popular opinion is probably like 2>(1 or 3)>5>4.

Question: does anyone know if there's a way to download the actual files for P.T. before it's deleted from the PSN store for people who don't yet have a PS4? I'd really like to download it to a USB drive or something as I was planning on picking up a PS4 sometime late this year. It seems asinine to not just cancel the project but scrub a widely-admired demo from the internet...

You guys are caterpillar (Telephone thing), Monday, 27 April 2015 15:40 (nine years ago) link

I don't know for sure how it will work in this case, but usually when a game is removed from PSN they still keep a copy up on the servers for people who previously bought the game so they can redownload it. So you can go to the PSN web store and "buy" the demo & checkout without owning a PS4, and this should tie a license to "redownload" the demo in the future to your PSN account. Of course Konami may want to wipe the existence of the game entirely and insist that no redownloads are allowed, and as no money has changed hands maybe the rules governing this may differ, but I doubt it.

( X '____' )/ (zappi), Monday, 27 April 2015 15:53 (nine years ago) link

Thanks for reminding me, I went and checked it out.
