I just want a Hi Def remake of San Andreas. No changes to story, characters, vehicles, etc. Is that too much to ask?

Oh and no Zero missions.

Ceeeeeeejaaaaaaaay

hyggeligt, Monday, 17 November 2014 23:06 (eleven years ago)

otm. San Andreas is still the king of GTA imo. Granted I've only played 5 for a few hours...

RIP Catalina *tips 40* (xpost)

Driving through San Fierro with "Can You Feel It" pounding, hopping other motorists like a demented Bullitt.

hyggeligt, Monday, 17 November 2014 23:09 (eleven years ago)

damn, no pc version til next year. can imagine this being great using keyboard + mouse. ended up hating gta5.0 because of shitty writing and sluggish movements of main character. this should sort the latter anyroad

NI, Monday, 17 November 2014 23:22 (eleven years ago)

Well whoever gets it, let us know how it is.

calstars, Tuesday, 18 November 2014 04:17 (eleven years ago)

Watched Drive the other day, and that introduction heist driving sequence really made me remember how I wanted the GTA series to develop. More intelligence in how you avoid police etc, instead of just more on foot running shooting blah blah.

Drop soap, not bombs (Ste), Tuesday, 18 November 2014 12:42 (eleven years ago)

there were some drive-inspired driving features in watch dogs - you could give police the slip by turning down alleyways and turning off your engine.

bizarro gazzara, Tuesday, 18 November 2014 12:46 (eleven years ago)

I eluded the cops plenty of times by driving into a garage.

I mean, ok, it was the fourth dimension wall glitch of a garage that violated the rules of time and space, but hey, they could never figure out where I was.

pplains, Tuesday, 18 November 2014 14:31 (eleven years ago)

make sure you set your power save settings to more than one hour before installing this file

polyphonic, Wednesday, 19 November 2014 04:57 (eleven years ago)

The first-person mode is a cool bauble but not a realistic way to play the game.

There are a few things here and there that seem different but otherwise it's the same game so far. I'm not noticing any big improvements in the graphics. Maybe the ocean looks a bit better. Obviously it's very stable and plays well compared to the 360.

The biggest change so far has been the online player creator, which is a little more refined, and the character models look better.

If you get a phone call, the sound (e.g. the phone ring, Lamar's voice), will come through your controller instead of the tv. I turned that shit off real fast. If you're being chased by the cops your controller will flash blue and red. It's cool in theory but gets old super fast.

It took me like three hours to install the file fwiw

polyphonic, Wednesday, 19 November 2014 19:28 (eleven years ago)

3 hours???

calstars, Wednesday, 19 November 2014 19:52 (eleven years ago)

4 if you include the first attempt that failed when my system powered down

polyphonic, Wednesday, 19 November 2014 19:52 (eleven years ago)

oh ffs.

Took me like 30 minutes max to install the game (on PS4). What could the difference possibly be between PS4 and Xbone to cause such a disparity? Does PS4 need fewer assets to be loaded on? Is the drive faster? Weird.

I think FP mode is pretty rad. I don't know if I'll play the whole campaign with it turned on but it really, really changes the feel to me. The little details really come out (punching a guy and seeing his glasses fly off, for example, made me lol). Seeing the city from this new perspective makes it totally unfamiliar and makes me want to replay the whole game fresh. You notice a ton of detail in a way that seems very new. (Were there always food trucks in this game? Were the newspapers you see blowing around always printed with headlines pertinent to where you are in the narrative?)

And, I noticed right away, killing non-aggressive NPCs feels VERY VERY WRONG AND HORRIBLE. It makes that "murder simulator" epithet politicians have been using about GTA for 10+ years actually seem appropriate.

On the downside, when you're used to how detailed character models are in FPSes these days, seeing GTAV from that perspective makes it kind of look like ass. Which sort of defeats the purpose of getting it for on next-gen.

I haven't tried online yet but BIG BIG OTHER BONUS which is practically worth what it costs to trade up the disc in my book is the hundreds of new songs on the radio. The funk station is much better, there are a bunch of awesome new songs on West Coast Classics (I heard "Afro Puffs," "I Got 5 on It," and a Spice-1 track last night), and the adult-contemporary station is now more like a 70s and 80s oldies station but has a ton of great new songs (am I crazy or was "Danger Zone" not on the soundtrack until now?). I would easily have spent $20 or so just to get a radio re-up like this as DLC on the last-gen version. Country station still sucks and continues to sound like it's programmed by someone plugging the phrase "outlaw country" into the allmusic search engine.

i dunno but as a ps4 owner who recently got an xbone as well i've been dismayed by how long games take to install on it. it took literally all night to install forza horizon 2 from disc.

bizarro gazzara, Thursday, 20 November 2014 14:12 (eleven years ago)

I'm PS4. No idea why it took me so much longer.

polyphonic, Thursday, 20 November 2014 16:31 (eleven years ago)

Maybe because I did digital download?

polyphonic, Thursday, 20 November 2014 19:25 (eleven years ago)

Download plus install would explain it

calstars, Thursday, 20 November 2014 20:36 (eleven years ago)

I completely downloaded it before I started the install though.

polyphonic, Thursday, 20 November 2014 20:39 (eleven years ago)

So I double dipped on this and don't regret it. Shit is SLICK on PS4. 1st person isn't as easy to play in, you really need the extra peripheral vision, but it's still well implemented. I use it mostly to just wonder around and look at stuff. The amount of detail in this game is super impressive.

three weeks pass...

heists.

goole, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 23:48 (eleven years ago)

goole, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 23:49 (eleven years ago)

you definitely put a dent in it

polyphonic, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 23:50 (eleven years ago)

i did it up, true

kind of a casualty of forza honestly, which got me addicted pretty badly, then i hit a wall and kind of hated gaming in general and got rid of everything

goole, Wednesday, 17 December 2014 23:57 (eleven years ago)

Bought the final property today, Golf Course. Done with this game.

Drop soap, not bombs (Ste), Thursday, 18 December 2014 00:05 (eleven years ago)

ha i'm mad curious about these heists tho, i must say

the idea of complex cooperation with xbl randos is a chilling thought tho

goole, Thursday, 18 December 2014 00:06 (eleven years ago)

think i've hit that same wall tbh

Drop soap, not bombs (Ste), Thursday, 18 December 2014 00:09 (eleven years ago)

I'm playing through the story again. A lot of the stuff they added to the 360 version was added (e.g., flight school) after I completed the story, so it's neat to see it folded into the game this time around. The early flight challenges are really tough.

polyphonic, Thursday, 18 December 2014 00:37 (eleven years ago)

Festive update

Drop soap, not bombs (Ste), Thursday, 25 December 2014 00:05 (eleven years ago)

The snow looks fooking amazing, but some new vehicles and weapons too

Drop soap, not bombs (Ste), Thursday, 25 December 2014 00:07 (eleven years ago)

looking forward to pc release.

how lame would it be to re-play IV at this point?

calstars, Thursday, 25 December 2014 00:29 (eleven years ago)

Not lame, been thinking of doing that myself. Also want to replay San Andreas but that's a mighty ask.

Drop soap, not bombs (Ste), Thursday, 25 December 2014 00:34 (eleven years ago)

The new Slamvan is terrifying, I've coated mine with chrome and I'm just terrorising everything.

Drop soap, not bombs (Ste), Thursday, 25 December 2014 00:35 (eleven years ago)

Homing Launcher.

God this game got me again

Drop soap, not bombs (Ste), Thursday, 25 December 2014 00:39 (eleven years ago)

difficult listening hour, Thursday, 25 December 2014 01:19 (eleven years ago)

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Thursday, 25 December 2014 08:42 (eleven years ago)

no thats xbox 360

Drop soap, not bombs (Ste), Thursday, 25 December 2014 08:44 (eleven years ago)

(the snow is only on the Online mode btw)

Drop soap, not bombs (Ste), Thursday, 25 December 2014 08:53 (eleven years ago)

Ah ok. Thought it was some kind of temporary patch for the story mode. Would have been cool

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Thursday, 25 December 2014 11:57 (eleven years ago)

the snow looks great.

are the multiplayer load times any better?

calstars, Thursday, 25 December 2014 12:15 (eleven years ago)

Never much played multiplayer so I can't compare really. Seems reasonable though.

Seriously though, I know they did the snow thing last xmas but it seems hugely improved this time around. Wish they could incorporate as a cheat code for single player, maybe at some point later perhaps.

Drop soap, not bombs (Ste), Thursday, 25 December 2014 13:32 (eleven years ago)

Actually enjoying a bit of online action, it's a lot more open once you get past rank 5.

But parachute landing is still fucking annoying, I land perfectly in the centre of the targets but because of stupid animations it moves me 5 more metres out of range.

Drop soap, not bombs (Ste), Thursday, 25 December 2014 14:46 (eleven years ago)

Are you sure you aren't coming in too hot

polyphonic, Thursday, 25 December 2014 18:13 (eleven years ago)

Had shoulder buttons pressed for a while, so should have been slowest

Drop soap, not bombs (Ste), Thursday, 25 December 2014 18:25 (eleven years ago)

it's also about horizontal speed vs. vertical i think.

polyphonic, Thursday, 25 December 2014 18:34 (eleven years ago)

have they announced the date for pc release of 1st person? playing that using mouse & keys seems like it could be next step toward the ultimate STALKER game

NI, Thursday, 25 December 2014 21:01 (eleven years ago)

are the multiplayer load times any better?

After some sessions on jobs I would have to answer. No.
