Monument Valley just launched a $2 expansion pack. People are bitching and moaning about it not being free because of course they are

anonanon, Thursday, 13 November 2014 04:47 (eleven years ago)

yeah it's depressing, I went and paid for the expansion out of annoyance

Spirit of Match Game '76 (silby), Thursday, 13 November 2014 05:08 (eleven years ago)

not that I wasn't going to anyway but

I've been digging RGB Express. Similar mechanics to Trainyard

Whowhatwhere, sign me up.

ledge, Thursday, 13 November 2014 06:01 (eleven years ago)

so w hoplite i sort of see it now, I thought you wanted to end up w 8 health but then you're either over specialised or spread to thin, you actually want as little health as you can get away with but abilities to get you out of various kinds of unfortunate situation. like if you have a bash-centric build and end up with a tiny bridge and twenty enemies on the other side you're doomed, say.

♛ LIL UNIT ♛ (thomp), Saturday, 15 November 2014 09:17 (eleven years ago)

What do you think, ledge?

schwantz, Saturday, 15 November 2014 18:19 (eleven years ago)

writing and art for Banner Saga some of the best ever I think?

What do you think, ledge?

in theory as a puzzle game it's right up my street, but i'm halfway through and honestly only about three levels so far have troubled me for more than 30 seconds. as the trucks can't retrace routes it's obviously a lot simpler than trainyard - you'll never get anything like that solution that takes two weeks to play out (http://trainyard.ca/2eSUM) - they throw in drop off points and switches to spice things up but then every time you get to a new city it seems like the difficulty level goes right back down to zero. hopefully the super hard levels will live up to their name.

ledge, Tuesday, 18 November 2014 09:17 (eleven years ago)

Yeah, I like that the tracks are simpler - makes the game more playable in bursts. I got to a certain point in Trainyard and hit a wall. I'm finally getting stuck on some of the "super-hard" levels of RGBE, but they seem solvable, whereas in Trainyard, I just gave up.

schwantz, Tuesday, 18 November 2014 19:33 (eleven years ago)

ok I have been watching that trainyard solution play out longer than I'd like to admit

anonanon, Tuesday, 18 November 2014 21:21 (eleven years ago)

man, sword lunge just seems like a game changer

♛ LIL UNIT ♛ (thomp), Tuesday, 18 November 2014 21:27 (eleven years ago)

that trainyard puzzle is terrifying

Johnny Rotten:

"I wasted — you're the first to know this — 10,000 fucking pounds [about $15,600] in the last two years on apps on my iPad. I got into Game of Thrones, Game of War, Real Racing, and I just wanted to up the ante. And like an idiot I didn't check myself. I've been checked now. But there's a kid in me, see? A bit of my childhood was taken from me and I'm determined to bring it back."

Nhex, Wednesday, 19 November 2014 19:22 (eleven years ago)

i know this isn't likely to excite anyone, but for those of you who, like me, liked tiny wings a lot a few years ago but haven't played it since, they've updated it (probably long ago) to include training missions which are actually really fun! they kind of remind me of the Trials series of games. so basically if you bought and enjoyed tiny wings and also enjoyed Trials you should re-download it

Nhex, Friday, 28 November 2014 20:20 (eleven years ago)

Also, has anyone got suckered/convinced into buying any of the RED apps/IAP? I may actually put in my first dollar into Puzzle and Dragons.

yep grabbed it, shoulda posted here earlier

anyone else here playing Anno? I've never played it on pc but I'd been wanting a city builder & this one is fun. & when it gets a little bogged down, the freemium part is a boon; you have to set it aside for a day or so to regen cash & let exploration happen, & then you come back reinvigorated. it looks very pretty too.

motorsport manager is $2.99 and is really addicting. it's kind of a mix between kairosoft-style progressive improvement and a surprisingly fun in-race management mode. you can choose between soft, hard, and wet tires, and tell your two drivers when to pit, when to drive conservatively to save fuel, and when to push. i realize that sounds boring but as you get up to higher tiers of competition it quickly becomes very important and engaging. it's possible to win races with a middling car by making good decisions on when to conserve fuel, when to pit, anticipating weather changes, etc. conversely if you're not paying attention you can lose races by failing to respond to things happening on the track (crashes, yellow flags, weather). it's well worth $3 and i've found myself sinking a lot of time into it over the last week.

ya'll are the ones who don't know things (Karl Malone), Wednesday, 10 December 2014 00:39 (eleven years ago)

two dots is terrible. starts great then becomes unwinnable without paying for bonus stuff in my experience.

celfie tucker 48 (s.clover), Wednesday, 10 December 2014 02:00 (eleven years ago)

grabbed pixel boat rush on a sale and have been enjoying the heck out of it. thanks for that hoplite notice tho! grabbing it now

celfie tucker 48 (s.clover), Wednesday, 10 December 2014 02:03 (eleven years ago)

I'm up to level 119 on two dots. Not yet unwinnable, but getting there.

Jeff, Wednesday, 10 December 2014 02:12 (eleven years ago)

No IAP yet either.

Jeff, Wednesday, 10 December 2014 02:12 (eleven years ago)

I'm cool with Two Dots - it's like a non-ugly Candy Crush

Nhex, Friday, 12 December 2014 05:57 (eleven years ago)

Up to 130.

Jeff, Friday, 12 December 2014 12:41 (eleven years ago)

just came out so it's $2.99, but i think a lot of people here would enjoy Sneaky Sneaky. it's a stealth based action/lite-rpg. you hide in bushes, wait until you get a good moment to attack enemies from behind, shoot from afar with a bow. if the enemy notices you it shifts into a mini-turn-based strategy game until the enemy is defeated. you can use accumulated gold and experience to buy items and level up your abilities. it's nothing earthshattering, but it's well executed.

I gave a buck to P&D for the RED promotion, but good godm those cute Chibi Christmas characters, I think I may finally break for real...

i paid a dollar to bitcoin billionaire so i could have a pet.

polyphonic, Sunday, 28 December 2014 21:22 (eleven years ago)

I'm up to hole 150/shot 435 on desert golf. I'd be doing a lot better but I had a catastrophic 40-50 shot hole on one drunken evening.

I'm up to hole 600 in 1972 shots. I'd be doing better but I had a 120 shot hole early on.
