five bucks for the stanley parable on steam, guess i'll give that a try
― Steve 'n' Seagulls and Flock of Van Dammes (forksclovetofu), Saturday, 18 October 2014 21:41 (eleven years ago)
Yeah, it's worth 5 bucks, just for the increasingly sarcastic iterative experience
― Stephen King's Threaderstarter (kingfish), Saturday, 18 October 2014 22:57 (eleven years ago)
ha, yes. it's very clever and even somewhat fun.obviously my initial run was utterly contrary. then initially obedient then suddenly contrary. now i'm just trying to see how deep the rabbit hole is.the broom closet!
― Steve 'n' Seagulls and Flock of Van Dammes (forksclovetofu), Saturday, 18 October 2014 23:10 (eleven years ago)
It sounds like you haven't seen the best bit yet. And it's properly great.
― JimD, Sunday, 19 October 2014 12:37 (eleven years ago)
wow, so as a new laptop gamer, steam sales don't last long then? no stanley parable for this dude
― Ass Tchotchke! (jjjusten), Monday, 20 October 2014 07:43 (eleven years ago)
It varies, they do some flash deals, some that run for a weekend, some that last a week. And then the big summer and winter sales last a couple of weeks each, but within those you still have some titles that stay on sale the whole way through, others last a day, others 6 hours etc.
If you add stuff to your wishlist they'll notify you when those prices drop.
― JimD, Monday, 20 October 2014 09:21 (eleven years ago)
...if your Steam email address goes somewhere you read (mine doesn't so when I log in every 6 months, generally when Steam wants a new browser authenticated, I go "oh look, I missed out on games")
I could change this of course but

Reposting here for relevance:
Would anyone know a C&C-esque game on Steam where you have levels/missions where you build a base each time and have objectives?― hyggeligt, Tuesday, 21 October 2014
Also while I could not take stress/decision making of "Gods Will Watch Us" it looks great and is 50% off.
In further news Tomb Raider is too new and fancy for my machine so I have purchased a dud (with additional cost of DLC). Is there a way of gifting on to some ILGer who has a better machine?
― hyggeligt, Tuesday, 21 October 2014 22:20 (eleven years ago)
hah, i was thinking of the same thing about Gods Will Be Watching - the demo already was pretty brutal

hey unreal tournaments 99 + 04 are $2.99 each on gog today. the former i found in a record store for fifty cents but the latter is a p great deal for fans of the twitchy quake strain of (trve) shooter-- you can even still find a game online with russian teenagers or at least you could about a year ago.
on the C&C-esque tip, i gogged total annihilation the other day, which i'd never played: a lil generic, but elegant and spectacular. on steam there's an HD remake of classic wall-building sim age of empires 2.

Bionic Dues on sale for $2. Looks cool - anyone have any experience with it? Also new Binding of Isaac today :)
― Mordy, Wednesday, 5 November 2014 19:32 (eleven years ago)
Thanks DLC. I'll download Total Annihilation. Based on online reviews it sounds near spot on.
Risk of Rain is great but so hard!

Wow, Tesla Effect (The Kickstarted Tex Murphy/Under A Killing Moon sequel) is in the $1 tier for the current Humble Bundle. So in!
Also, Rogue Legacy on sale on Steam for $3. Definitely worth it, but 80% off sales should always make one suspicious of future bundlings...
― Nhex, Tuesday, 11 November 2014 20:17 (eleven years ago)
newest humble bundle has 4 dreamcast games, nights, and the sonic racing game.

steam sale suggestion: Hexcells Completehttp://store.steampowered.com/sub/50074/?snr=1_5_9__403merzbau already got it, i def. recommend them if you like Picross-type chill puzzlers. they're all pretty short so you should get the whole pack here, or just dip your toe with the first one
similar vein, not as good but can't beat $0.89 for LYNEhttp://store.steampowered.com/app/266010/?snr=1_7_7_151_150_1
― Nhex, Sunday, 30 November 2014 21:12 (eleven years ago)
Pretty tempted by that $6 Shadowgate: Dragonfall expandalone, but just barely doesn't pass my "will play this before the next huge sale" test. Hope they break out some good stuff for the final day.
― Nhex, Tuesday, 2 December 2014 15:00 (eleven years ago)
i picked up tropico 4 cheap a few days ago and i've been loving it. thinking i should grab tropico 5...
― Mordy, Tuesday, 2 December 2014 15:02 (eleven years ago)
i'd wait until the inevitable Tropico 6, when you'll be able to get Tropico 5 for pennies... or the xmas sale
lol obviously I meant Shadowrun, not Shadowgate...

Antichamber a mere $2 at Humble Store. Still haven't played it.
― Nhex, Tuesday, 16 December 2014 19:05 (eleven years ago)
btw this current "gems" thing in the Steam market seems like hooey, but I hope they keep the ability to turn gems back into booster packs after the sale. problem is I don't see myself getting 1000 gems or whatever to try it out by that point without just buying a bag of gems from the market...
― Nhex, Tuesday, 16 December 2014 19:32 (eleven years ago)
antichamber still worth playing & i don't feel like i'd say that about some or most of the games i put on my coint and plick ballot

Winter sale time, obv. Tempted to buy Skyrim for £2.50 even though it won't play on my laptop and I'm too lazy to play any games on the desktop (yes that is how much of a casual gamer I am).
So if I vote for the community choice sale I get some virtual trading cards... except I can't claim them unless I become a higher level... and the best way to raise level is... by having more trading cards?
Good job!

Spin Tyres just under 7 quid. hmm
― Drop soap, not bombs (Ste), Sunday, 21 December 2014 22:05 (eleven years ago)
NB despite having no real interest in the trading cards I'm still going on a spree of claiming games from the billion undownloaded Humble Bundles I've bought just to see if I can get my level up high enough, so I guess they've got me
― club mate martyr (a passing spacecadet), Sunday, 21 December 2014 22:20 (eleven years ago)
i forgot that you even need a certain level to get trading cardsyou probably own a bunch of games you can idle/play to get the card drops from - check your badges page

Sniper Elite III is -70% this weekend, which is sort of tempting. Anyone willing to vouch for it?
― JimD, Saturday, 7 February 2015 12:51 (eleven years ago)
Valkyria Chronicles I is half-off, so I grabbed that. I dig the HD remake, since I'm not going to play this on the PS3, and you can jack it up to 1080p and play the game with a XB1 controller.
Game v. much looks like what would have happened if WWII broken out in Miyazaki's Alt-Europe, like we're seeing the war stories of all the parents of Studio Ghibli principles a generation before the films are set.
― Delbert Gravy (kingfish), Monday, 9 February 2015 05:45 (eleven years ago)
all of the wargames are bundled on steam for like $13. i'm sure i've asked this before -- anyone have experience w/ them? worth getting?
